Automatic or Manually Assisted: Manually assisted, each edit checked.
Function Summary: Wikification and many spelling/grammar fixes to articles that are not maintained frequently.
Edit period(s) (e.g. Continuous, daily, one time run): Whenever I can [but hopefully frequently], as edits need to be checked.
Already has a bot flag (Y/N): N
Function Details: This bot will correct spelling mistakes and grammar [things such as 'irregardless' or 'they was'], and apply general fixes such as fixing category formatting and interwiki links on articles that are not maintained frequently, starting with the massive Category:Year of death unknown. That category contains thousands of stubs, some of which have not been edited in two years, and look awful as a result, riddled with spelling errors and deprecated categories. I have been doing just this using AWB on my main account, but thought that if I was going to go through the whole list and then more at quite a pace, a bot account and approval would be wise. It will obviously need to run assisted, as with all spelling/formatting bots.
Discussion
[edit]How is this bot different from that described in Wikipedia:Bots/Frequently denied bots? I did a lot of spelling correction with AWB and given historic variations in language and use of direct quotes in articles, it was maybe 90% accurate. MBisanz talk 19:56, 17 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- It is different in that each edit will be checked manually by a human. In effect this bot account will be used for general cleanup and wikification tasks done at a relatively high speed, preventing hundreds of AWB edits cluttering up my main accounts contribs. If such a use does not require approval, then I am sorry for wasting time here. RichardΩ612 Ɣ ɸ 20:32, May 17, 2008 (UTC)
- As long as you are manually reviewing an approving each change, Bot approval is not required. In fact, even if the account is flagged as a Bot, AWB wouldn't let it autosave in bot-mode with spelling correction enabled. Somepeople don't like having all the AWB-based edits on their main account an create an Alternate Account (Like Richard0612-AWB) for that purpose, but that is not required. - Withdraw - OK, thanks for the info. I'll request a name change for this account [to avoid giving false impressions of it being a bot] to avoid having all the auto-edits on my main account. Thanks again and sorry for the clutter! RichardΩ612 Ɣ ɸ 20:47, May 17, 2008 (UTC)
