Operator: Boricuaeddie
Automatic or Manually Assisted: Automatic
Programming Language(s): AWB
Function Summary: WikiProject tagging
Edit period(s) (e.g. Continuous, daily, one time run): Daily
Edit rate requested: 6 edits per minute
Already has a bot flag (Y/N): No
Function Details: This bot will post WikiProject Puerto Rico's banner ({{PuertoRicoproj}}
) on all articles in Puerto Rico-related categories (for example, Category:Puerto Rican people stubs or Category:Puerto Rican writers). The bot will do this by getting all of the articles on the categories, converting them to talk pages, and using the "Append" feature to post the the template on the articles, skipping, of course, those that already have it. I think this is a fairly easy task, and I have done some myself to prove it. Please note that I'm using Wikipedia:PUR as an example; the bot will do this with all projects. --Boricuaeddie 22:11, 8 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Discussion
[edit]Seem good, however we do have a lot of wikiproject tagging bots. I don't see any harm though. ~ Wikihermit 22:22, 8 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Yeah, but none for Wikipedia:PUR, Wikipedia:SOCCER or Wikipedia:CATHOLIC. --Boricuaeddie 22:26, 8 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- I'm not sure that that's a good reason to ever deny a bot! The more the merrier as long as they don't conflict. Cbrown1023 talk 23:35, 8 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Indeed, but I can't deny bots anyways! :-). ~ Wikihermit 23:36, 8 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- I know! But I was saying it mostly for the record! :-P :) Cbrown1023 talk 23:52, 8 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

- Does the bot support WikiprojectBannerShells? βcommand 00:22, 9 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Um, what? Sorry, I'm not familiar with the term. --Boricuaeddie 00:24, 9 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- I think the answer is "no". :-) ~ Wikihermit 00:25, 9 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

- Hehe, but Boricuaeddie, Beta means Template:WikiProjectBannerShell. Meaning, "will the bot look for that template and if it exists, either skip the article or add the WikiProject Banner accordingly?" I do not believe that is possible with AWB, so you will need to set AWB to skip. Cbrown1023 talk 00:31, 9 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- I stated in the function summary that I will make AWB skip articles that already contain the template. I think that won't be a problem. --Boricuaeddie 00:35, 9 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- "That template" is the BannerShell template, the WikiProject banner. Cbrown1023 talk 00:43, 9 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Oh. What does Betta mean with "support". I'll only be adding one template, so I don't think I'll use it. --Boricuaeddie 00:45, 9 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- sigh* Just make sure that you tell AWB to skip the talk page if it contains {{WikiProjectBannerShell (or its variants/redirects). Cbrown1023 talk 00:47, 9 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- OK. Sorry for my stupidity :-) --Boricuaeddie 00:49, 9 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- You're not stupid, I was sighing at myself for not explaining well enough. Cbrown1023 talk 00:50, 9 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

As long as it ignores pages that already have the template or that already has a banner shell, then Approved for trial (50 edits). Please provide a link to the relevant contributions and/or diffs when the trial is complete. Matt/TheFearow (Talk) (Contribs) (Bot) 01:09, 9 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- You might want to try using User:Kingbotk/Plugin for adding the templates. Its designed specifically for that purpose, and for assessing. Probably better to use that than just Vanilla AWB... Reedy Boy 12:43, 9 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Um, I have a problem. I can only get AWB to skip articles with one template. Because of this, it's possible it'll add {{PuertoRicoproj}} even when the talk page already has {{PuertoRicoproj|importance= |class= }}, or vice-versa. Also, I tried to use the plugin, but all I get is "Plugin manager ready". I think it's better if I just withdraw this... --Boricuaeddie 15:49, 9 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- I might be able to do it with HermesBot, give me a second to test it out. ~ Wikihermit 16:02, 9 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Don't worry; I fixed it :-) --Boricuaeddie 16:24, 9 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
