Automatic, Supervised, or Manual: Automatic
Programming language(s): Perl
Source code available: User:AnomieBOT/source/tasks/EnDashRedirectCreator.pm
Function overview: Create redirects from the title with hyphens for pages with titles containing en-dashes.
Links to relevant discussions (where appropriate): WP:BOTREQ#Bot for dashes
Edit period(s): Periodic
Estimated number of pages affected: 230735 redirects will be created for the first run, then it depends on how many new titles with en-dashes are created.
Exclusion compliant (Y/N): Yes (not that it matters)
Already has a bot flag (Y/N): Yes
Function details: The bot will look for existing pages with titles containing en-dashes ("–") where the corresponding title with en-dashes replaced with hyphens ("-") does not exist. It will then create the title with hyphens as a redirect to the title with en-dashes. If this would result in a double redirect, it will bypass the redirect.

- Seems reasonable enough. Approved for trial (75 edits). Please provide a link to the relevant contributions and/or diffs when the trial is complete. — Earwig talk 03:06, 4 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
- Trial complete. [1] Anomie⚔ 01:49, 5 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
- Not sure why this was advertised at WP:VPPOL, since this is simply straightforward compliance with WP:MOSDASH; it's not a "proposal", it's just maintenance. — SMcCandlish ☺ ☏ ¢ ≽ʌⱷ҅ᴥⱷʌ≼ 17:59, 4 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
- Because that's what WP:MASSCREATION says to do. Anomie⚔ 01:49, 5 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
- This sounds OK to do, as the redirects will be harmless. The issue will be whether or not the article that is the target should be renamed, but of course that is beyond what a bot can consider. Perhaps it or someone can also spot article titles with other kinds of dash things in them, like −,—, or from other languages, but just lit them, as it would take a person to see why they are used. Probably want to put a period in that edit summary, but I see no other issues. An expansion of the task to titles containing em-dashes would be reasonable (I think?), though I imagine there are far fewer titles containing — than –. Approved. — Earwig talk 06:59, 8 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
