Operator: Alphachimp
Automatic or Manually Assisted: Auto
Programming Language(s): AWB
Function Summary: Will replace and fix CIA Factbook links
Edit period(s) (e.g. Continuous, daily, one time run): one time run
Edit rate requested: X edits per TIME 15-20 edits per minute
Already has a bot flag (Y/N): Y
Function Details: This is similar to a task my bot has already done and been approved for. Someone requested it of me, and the text of the request is here:
(This is based on a similar request here: Wikipedia:Bot_requests/Archive_8#Create_a_bot_to_update_CIA_World_Factbook_links.)
I was wondering if you could set Alphachimpbot on this task:
Replace all mentions (under References, Notes, etc.) of the broken link http://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/<rest of URL> (or the same, except with https instead of http) with https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/<rest of URL>
Also, any other links to https://www.cia.gov/cia/publications should be replaced with https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/. I suspect they have done significant further restructuring they might have done to the section (or site, even), so that's something to check out. (See [1].)
Many thanks in advance. - Thehotelambush 23:12, 27 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
This is simple, this is easy, I'm requesting it more as a formality, seeing as I'm already approved for basically the same thing. Thanks guys, alphachimp 04:08, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Discussion
[edit]I have already done this using AWB a few weeks ago (link to contribs). I used list of countries and edited all of them, but if you still see a need for the task, I'm in favour. Also, someone noted that a template (e.g. {{WFB}}) would be great as a substitution on each article with a link to the factbook because in future, you would only have to edit the template instead of editing all articles.
