Wikipedia:Article wizard/version1/News
Thank you for using the Article Wizard!
Wikipedia has many articles on topics of historical significance that are currently in the news, and can be updated with recently verified information, but Wikipedia is not a news site.
- Writing news
If you want to write an article about a recent event, please go to our sister site at Wikinews, a sister project. On some occasions however, such as for example 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami, it may be acceptable to begin the article immediately on Wikipedia - but it must be covered with reliable sources. Anything that is not reliable might be considered a hoax and could be deleted.
An article is usually considered stale 2–3 days after the news event occurred. The two most common exceptions are:
- New information has arrived within 2–3 days, and the news event occurred within 7 days.
- Just because a source article has a later date, needn't mean the information in it is new on that date. If the information really is new, it may mark a fresh news event to focus on, obviating this exception.
- Original reporting adds significant new, newsworthy information to the article. In contrast, original research (your own personal experience) is not allowed on Wikipedia.
