The Western Visayas Sanitarium and General Hospital (WVSGH) is a government hospital in the Philippines.[1] It is located in Barangay Inangayan and Barangay Bolong Oeste, Santa Barbara, Iloilo.

History

[edit]

Western Visayas Sanitarium and General Hospital was established in June 1927 as a treatment station for leprosy patients. On May 30, 2005, through Administrative Order 2005-0013, WVS expanded its services from a leprosarium to a general hospital, providing five major services: Medical, Surgical, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Family Medicine, and Pediatrics. A 50-bed General Hospital Main Building was inaugurated in January 2010 to accommodate the increasing number of patients. Despite this expansion, WVS continues to serve as a referral hospital for leprosy patients in the Western Visayas region.

WVS is now a Level I, 50-bed general hospital with an authorized bed capacity of 300 (150 beds for general care and 150 beds for leprosy care) and an implementing bed capacity of 200 (50 beds for general care and 150 beds for leprosy care). It is a Department of Health (DOH)-retained hospital and is recognized as a Center for Safety by the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PHIC).

On December 16, 2014, WVS was certified by AJA Registrars as an ISO 9001:2008 certified hospital for healthcare services and residency training programs.

As of March 31, 2015, WVS employed 133 plantilla personnel, divided into three major divisions: Medical Service, Nursing Service, and Hospital Operations and Patient Support Service. The hospital also has an accredited training program for the Department of Family and Community Medicine.[2]
