WFD Translift Sp. z o.o. is a Polish company specializing in the production of elevators. Over the years, it has undergone several name changes due to organizational transformations, being known as Warszawska Fabryka Dźwigów Spółka Akcyjna w Warszawie from 1950 to 1951, Zjednoczenie Urządzeń Dźwigowych (ZUD) from 1951 to 1957, Zakłady Urządzeń Dźwigowych (ZUD) from 1957 to 1972, Zakłady Urządzeń Dźwigowych ZREMB (ZUD ZREMB) from 1972 to 1976, Kombinat Dźwigów Osobowych ZREMB (KDO ZREMB) from 1976 to 1991, Warszawska Fabryka Dźwigów „Translift” Przedsiębiorstwo Państwowe from 1991 to 2010, and Warszawska Fabryka Dźwigów „Translift” Sp. z o.o. from 2010 to 2011.
History
[edit]Historically, the company was headquartered in Warsaw, primarily at Postępu 12 in the Służewiec neighborhood of Mokotów, and operated numerous assembly plants throughout Poland.[1] During the era of the People's Republic of Poland, it held a monopoly on the production of passenger and freight elevators and was part of the ZREMB industrial union from 1972 to 1991.[1] In 1965, it acquired a license for passenger elevators featuring a collective control system from the Swedish company Asea-Graham, which became widely installed in Polish large-panel buildings.[1]
Between 1989 and 1990, the Kombinat Dźwigów Osobowych ZREMB was dissolved due to the political transformation in Poland. As a result, regional assembly plants were removed from the organizational structure of the combine and later transformed into private enterprises or were liquidated.[1] In Gdańsk, the assembly plant was renamed “Dźwignia,” while the plants in Łódź, Poznań, and Wrocław were renamed “Windpol,” “Prolift,” and “Dźwignia,” respectively.[1] The assembly plant in Katowice was renamed “Zremb Katowice.”[2]
On 27 August 1991, by the decision of Minister of Spatial Economy and Construction, KDO–ZUD was transformed into the state enterprise Warszawska Fabryka Dźwigów „Translift,”[1] which was privatized only at the end of 2010. The former headquarters of the company at Postępu Street in Warsaw was demolished in 2016.[3] Currently, the only assembly plant is located in Kobyłka.[4]
