Mahalingeshwarar Temple is a Shiva temple situated at Thavasimedai village in Viralipatti neighbourhood in Dindigul district of Tamil Nadu in India.[1] The main deity in this temple is Mahalingeshwarar and the goddesses are Maragathavalli and Manikkavalli.

[edit]This temple is located with the coordinates of (10°16′37″N 78°02′35″E / 10.2770°N 78.0431°E) at Thavasimedai, Viralipatti.[2]
Significance
[edit]The shrine of Bhairava is found just opposite to the shrine of the main deity. The construction of the temple premises is in such a way that during the month of Maha Shivaratri, for thirty days, the rays of Sun fall on the main deity in the mornings and on Bhairava in the evenings.[3]
There are two peetas found at the entrance of this temple. It is said that Maharishi Bharadwaj who is one of the five sages installed Meenakshi in Meenakshi Temple in Madurai, is sitting on the peetas penancing to have his head, the touch of the feet of devotees coming to this temple.[4]
