Vimukthi Dushantha is a Sri Lankan social activist, journalist, writer, and entrepreneur. He is the founder and Editor-in-Chief of Info Sri Lanka, a prominent news website, and the Founder and Group Chair Person of Insel Holdings, a media and branding company. Known for his advocacy for social justice, freedom of expression, and human rights, Dushantha has played a significant role in Sri Lanka's media landscape and social activism. He is also a certified social media marketing expert and a prominent figure in both the journalistic and entrepreneurial communities in Sri Lanka.

[edit]Vimukthi Dushantha was born in Colombo, Sri Lanka. He began his career in journalism shortly thereafter, gaining recognition for his investigative reporting and advocacy for press freedom.[1]

[edit]Dushantha has been a vocal advocate for freedom of expression in Sri Lanka. He has spoken out against governmental censorship and the suppression of journalists, particularly during politically turbulent times.[2] His journalistic contributions include articles published in international outlets such as The Guardian and The Hindu. Dushantha has also worked closely with civil society organizations to address human rights issues in Sri Lanka.[3]
He gained significant attention during the Aragalaya protests in 2022, a mass movement calling for political and economic reforms in Sri Lanka. Dushantha played a key role in mobilizing support and advocating for peaceful demonstrations, often highlighting the concerns of marginalized communities.[4]
Media and entrepreneurship
[edit]In 2006, Dushantha founded Info Sri Lanka, a digital platform that provides unbiased news and in-depth analysis. The platform has become one of the most popular news outlets in Sri Lanka, and it is known for its credibility and focus on investigative journalism.[5]
In 2008, he co-founded Insel Holdings, a company specializing in media consulting, public relations, and branding. Dushantha currently serves as the company's Chief Operating Officer and has overseen numerous high-profile projects in Sri Lanka and abroad.[6]
Political involvement
[edit]Dushantha has also been active in Sri Lanka's political discourse, supporting reforms and initiatives aimed at improving governance. He is the Director of Communications and Public Relations for the Jathika Jana Sabha Secretariat under the Presidential Secretariat of Sri Lanka.[7] He has frequently criticized government policies and advocated for greater transparency in public administration.[8]
Criticism
[edit]Despite his advocacy for justice and rights, Dushantha has faced criticism for his outspoken nature and political affiliations. Some critics argue that his activism has occasionally leaned toward partisanship, potentially undermining his objectivity as a journalist.[9] However, Dushantha maintains that his efforts are always focused on ensuring accountability and justice.
