Potential conflicts of interest
[edit]Welcome to Wikipedia! I hope you will have fun, and help, here. However: I don't know if you are Michael Carbonaro, or "Captain Zorikh" (or both); but if you are connected with Big Apple Convention in any capacity, please be aware of the rules about conflict of interest and autobiography in editing Wikipedia. --Orange Mike 22:20, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
- Hi, Orance Mike. Love the picture in you bio page! Heloooo orange! I see you are also in the SCA. I am known as Ld. Ervald the Optimistic there.
- Thanks for the heads-up about the conflict of interest here. I am "Captain Zorikh" and I do work for the Big Apple Convention in a somewhat amorpohous capacity that includes running the costuime contest, internet promotions, and general troubleshooting. When I saw that the NY Comic Con, the Big Apple Anime Fest, and the late Comic Art Convention all had listings, and that Carbonaro's convention was mentioned in the latter entry, I figured it would make sense for the BAC to have a listing also, considering its history. I also felt it was important because at a convention this past weekend I met many people who thought the Big Apple Convention I was promoting (that had been going on for over ten years) was the same Big Apple Anime Fest that had not happenned for the past three years or the same New York Comic Con that had only been going on for two years.
- I just searched for Creation Conventions, the company that used to have regular conventions in NYC through the '80's, but they don't have a listing either. I am considering starting one for them as well.
- Wading through all the discussion about COI, one dichotomy strikes me: while someone who works for a company profiled in a Wikipedia entry might be influenced in their description of the business, they are also the one most likely to have accurate information about the company. Where does that fit into the guidelines?
- The only other thing I wanted to do to the entry was include a list of dates and locations of the convention, and possibly include the more significant guests who were there, like the Comic Art Convention and Big Apple Anime Fest entries do. Would my doing so count as a conflict of interes? Would I have to basically just sit back and hope that someday a person will think to do that for us?
- Thanks for your help.
- The big issue is that a too-big article, especially about a commercial venture, constitutes an ad, not an encyclopedia entry. (Both of the articles you mention are skating on the edge of that line, and may be subject to massive trimming.) Even the WorldCons don't have a long list of Guests of Honor. --Orange Mike 23:23, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
The article St. Tropez belt has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Fails WP:GNG. Not in external link and cursory gsearches (1, 2, 3, 4) reveal basically nothing.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. IgnatiusofLondon (talk) 14:14, 14 February 2024 (UTC)
- Hi, I am the writer if the st. tropez belt entry, and I only just now found the email alert of the proposed deletion. When I tried to look for the article I found that it had been deleted within the past 24 hours.
- Is there any way to reopen it? I started a talk page and I can provide pictures of a sample of the belt. Zorikh (talk) 09:19, 22 February 2024 (UTC)
- See WP:REFUND. You should read WP:GNG: that the belt exists, as proved by images, is not enough to ascertain its notability. You will be expected to provide WP:RS sources demonstrating WP:SIGCOV. The article had no references – websites, newspapers, magazines, etc. talking about the belt are needed to show that the belt justifies an encyclopaedic entry. - Zorikh, if you want an article that has been PROD'd to be restored, make a request at WP:REFUND. But don't ask questions on orphaned talk pages, no one will see your query and the page will just be deleted. Better to try sites like Twitter and Quora to ask questions that might get answered.
