Double double
[edit]Thanks for the fantastic new Mandelbrot animation. Did you say you wrote it in Java? Have you got the source code? Even though I've got 2 cores and a few hours at my disposable! Thanks. --Simpsons contributor (talk) 02:43, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
- The source code is quite involved, 28 classes in the deepZoom package, and another 13 dependent classes from my personal library used are used. I've put a zip here: [[1]] Note that the zoom parameters are hardcoded in consts in the main class. --Zom-B (talk) 11:10, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks.--Simpsons contributor (talk) 14:27, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
- I also have some spare time and would love to mess with the code, but the link above appears to be broken. Do you mind providing an updated link? Thanks! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.178.169.174 (talk) 22:08, 4 June 2009 (UTC)
It is a pity it is not available on commons:Commons:Main Page because then your way too cool animation could also be used on all the other Wikipedias and other Wikimedia projects. When seeing it I was reminded by a terrible brute force implementation I did on my HP-42S pocket calculator in 1990 to compute the set by setting pixels in the two-line dot matrix display and then print it out on my small infrared printer, compute another two lines and print that out, and violá I had the set 64 pixels high after about 36 hours of computation and using one set of batteries.
I was also wondering if it would be possible for you to make a version with twice the height and width (and four times the computing time ;-( )? If so I think it would be eligible as a WP:FP or the equivalent at commons commons:COM:FP. --Slaunger (talk) 08:22, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
I've updated the source link with the newest version.
I don't know how the availability is regulated. I merely updated an already existing image "Mandelbrot_sequence_new.gif". I will try to render a double-sized version. When uploading I'll try to make it available on Commons too. --Zom-B (talk) 19:14, 13 August 2009 (UTC)
I know I'm being a nuisance here, but I've lost the source code and the link above leads to a page asking for a password. Do you have the Mandelbrot animation source code? Thanks. I'll be uploading what I make to my newly formed blog. --Simpsons contributor (talk) 17:48, 1 November 2009 (UTC)
It seems this server, owned by a friend of a friend, is teh fail now. Even my friends homepage isn't on anymore. Tomorrow I'll look for a new place to store the source code. Link updated (again). I hope it will last this time.
Hi, and I agree, a wonderful graphic. Would it be possible to enlarge it, as big as possible actually. I'm not a coder so I don't know if that's feasible. Thanks, Aleister Wilson (talk) 14:24, 3 December 2009 (UTC)
I already have an enlarged version here, but I still need to find a way to convert it to gif because I'm without linux atm. I got some classes that do this from Simpsons contributor but I still have to make time to figure them out. --Zom-B (talk) 18:34, 6 December 2009 (UTC)
- The larger version is ultra nice, and seeing it I'm like an addict, larger, larger! Thanks for putting the smaller version up, and for creating the larger, and when it's on gif please drop me a line. Thanks again, Aleister Wilson (talk) 05:26, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
Image attributed to you
[edit]It's funny – I saw your username on the Sobel operator talk page and realized that I recognized it, but I didn't know from where. Then I realized that I had uploaded a modified version of an image attributed in your name! :P (File:Gouraud low.gif) Although it seems like it's not you who have uploaded it. I didn't have any idea of who or what Zom-B was when I uploaded it! But now I know. —Kri (talk) 17:50, 14 July 2011 (UTC)
