Accented characters in Windows XP

[edit]

Thanks very much for your response to my Help Desk query[1]. That is much appreciated. I figured there was some relatively easy generalized way to type the accents under Windows. It's surprising this isn't better known; I'm sure lots of people would use it if they knew about it. --Mathew5000 21:47, 27 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Academic Seduction

[edit]

Thanks for your feedback on the article Academic seduction. However, much of the information comes from International sources such as Britian, Franch, South Africa, and Scotland, as well as the U.S. Please see the discussion page. Thanks Aine63 04:17, 31 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I commented on your points in the discussion. (BTW, regarding your comments on the other article, you are definately "hounding" now (your word, not mine)which is a good word for following specific people around Wiki trying to poke holes in what they--sounds like it wasn't my pride that was wounded.) Aine63 18:14, 31 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Aine63, I responded to your reply on Academic seduction. My apologies for having offended you; it was certainly not my aim to do so. When I said "pride and joy" I was merely saying that an article that one has written is often something of which its author can be proud. Onto the substance: I don't believe looking at some of your articles and making suggestions based on wikipedia guidelines is really out of order. You're more than welcome to do the same with me. Furthermore, my question (to which you have not yet replied) as to whether you are "displacedhuman" on Amazon.com is germane. Copyright is important here and I'd like to make sure that She Creature is either your work or that you had permission to copy it here. Best, --Zantastik talk 21:17, 31 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Macrons

[edit]

I saw that you added macrons to ex cathedra and sola scriptura. I deleted these because they are generally used only for teaching Latin, not in general publication. See for instance this page from the Schaff-Herzog encyclopedia, which does not apply macrons to "ex opere operato," which is also in the ablative. --Flex 17:56, 14 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Tennessee Marriage Protection Amendment

[edit]

I have corrected your addition to the Tennessee Marriage Protection Amendment article. The Rasmussen poll says nothing about whether or not Tennesseans support the amendment. The poll states that 80% of Tennesseans beleive marriage should be limited to a man and a woman (which it already is in Tennessee). That doesn't necessarily mean they support amending the constitution to say that. Please be careful about stating poll results accurately, especially as elections approach. Thanks! Kaldari 23:57, 17 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My apologies, and thank you for correcting my entry. Yes, that is an extremely important distinction and I should have been more careful. Thank you! --Zantastik talk 00:00, 18 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"Licensee" accent marks

[edit]

I just thought I'd tell you... I don't know how it's spelled in French, but in English, the word "licensee" is almost never written with an accent mark (even by people who normally write accent marks). For example, www.m-w.com doesn't even list a spelling with an accent mark, even though this dictionary does often list uncommon variants (like "rôle" for "role"). So I removed the accent marks in GNU Free Documentation License. I hope you don't mind. - furrykef (Talk at me) 12:56, 18 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No, I don't mind. I suppose it was rather like fiancé, etc. Thanks for the correction:) --Zantastik talk 16:58, 18 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Unspecified source for Image:Ling cohan.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Ling cohan.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. - CrazyRussian talk/email 06:46, 30 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Vulgar Latin

[edit]

Hi, this is FA Review, on the verge of going into FARC. We wonder whether you're able to help reference the text. Tony 08:03, 30 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for taking a while to get back to you. I'm not really sure that I can do much to help here; I didn't write the article and a great bukl of my knowledge on the subject comes from the article itself. I've never read a book on the subject, etc. All I really did was translate it into French. Best of luck! (And it does look like it needs a lot more referencing, I agree) --Zantastik talk 06:32, 2 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Craig Murray

[edit]

The link can stay, but the number of external links is somewhat excessive. What the article really needs is more references and some npoving to correct the weighting. Regards, Ya ya ya ya ya ya 02:04, 4 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sure you're right -- I'm not involved with the article; I just read the Post piece and I thought it was germane. Good luck with the article! --Zantastik talk 02:08, 4 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey neighbor!

[edit]

Hiya neighbor! I hope you don't mind, but I borrowed your toolbox the other day. It was the darndest thing, the screwdriver and wrench broke already. Maybe I should just keep it . . . What was that? No, I don't have your rake. Your lawnmower either. Welp, catch ya later! · j e r s y k o talk · 21:42, 14 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Aw shucks! I was a fixin to ask ya about that thar rake. Well, yar most welcum to thuh tools.. I was gonna get me another one as it was. --Zantastik talk 20:20, 15 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

England expects

[edit]

Please take another look at England expects that every man will do his duty (FAR). I have rewritten and cited the article. Thanks, Yomanganitalk 15:27, 20 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Great job! I can only find one problem with the sourcing now; page numbers aren't given for the books. As soon as these are added, I'll withdraw my objection. --Zantastik talk 04:34, 21 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Page numbers now added (for some reason I always forget to write them down, and then have to go and recheck the sources). Cheers, Yomanganitalk 16:46, 21 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I'll no longer advocate the article being a FARC. Keep up the good work! --Zantastik talk 04:02, 22 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Terry Pratchett Article

[edit]

You put the unsourced tag on the article, and while I'm sure if I read through it I could find something that might be unsourced, could you instead put the {{fact}} or {{verify source}} on the parts of the article that grabbed your attention? Bo-Lingua 01:14, 23 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've gone through the article and tagged unsourced statements. I'm not questioning the accuracy of these statements, it's just we need a specific reference after each of them, so that they're verifiable. A big list of links at the bottom isn't enough. Now, that's not to say that this is a bad article -- it's just that it's not yet properly sourced, and this needs to be indicated. By the way, the reason I didn't put lots of fact tags in in the first place is that essentially nothing was sourced (2 bbc links, I think). Hope this helps. --Zantastik talk 04:33, 23 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ah. I just find it daunting to see the big tag on an article, and wonder what the "tagger" meant. That helps. I'll look at it in my wiki moments, and thanks for taking time to get back to me. :) Bo-Lingua 04:56, 23 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I'm glad I could help! :) Good luck! --Zantastik talk 06:41, 23 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Would you mind re-uploading this file? I toned down the dazzling whitness of his robe and then upped the lumenosity generally. The new file lets you see his face, not just his robe! Thanks :) --Zantastik talk 03:48, 24 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've uploaded the new version, it doesn't seem to make much difference. Mabye a crop would be better for the main page. --Peta 05:56, 24 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'm actually not sure that you uploaded the new version -- you may have uploaded a smaller version thereof. The file is here. Thanks for your time! And yes, perhaps a crop would be better -- that's not a bad idea. But let's try the "enlightened" one first -- I'd post it if I could, of course. I just want Wikipedia to look professional. --Zantastik talk 06:07, 24 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Got it this time. Thanks for your work.--Peta 06:10, 24 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
