Hello, Zachary Serhan, and welcome to Wikipedia! My name is Ian and I work with the Wiki Education Foundation; I help support students who are editing as part of a class assignment.

I hope you enjoy editing here. If you haven't already done so, please check out the student training library, which introduces you to editing and Wikipedia's core principles. You may also want to check out the Teahouse, a community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to helping new users. Below are some resources to help you get started editing.

• Blog posts and press releases are considered poor sources of reliable information. Why? Blog posts are often a personal perspective and can sway from factual or critically analyzed theories. Press releases also have a perspective that could lessen the point or reference to be subjective and not factual. Refrencing these sources can be very hard separating what is opinion and what is factual.

• What are some reasons you might not want to use a company's website as the main source of information about that company? For the same reason as blogs or press releases, the company has a subjective view and will most likely be favorable towards the companies view. This could make sourcing company website unreliable.

• What is the difference between a copyright violation and plagiarism? Copyright is very different to plagiarism. Copyright is a tool used to sensitively publish information that cannot be used without citing the source. Plagarism is a foul made by a writer when they use someone else’s idea as their own without giving the proper refrence

• What is public domain mean? ...  Public domain is information everyone has open acess to, in most cases, this information need not be reference and cited because they are public knowledge.

• What does fair use mean?...  Fair use means that it is being used with the consent of the resource and the user is doing their best to properly cite and refrence where the information is from. Fair is subjective but speaks to the intentions of the user to be acting in good faith.

• What are some good techniques to avoid close paraphrasing and plagiarism?  Wikipedia has tutorials about both close paraphrasing and plagiarism and tips on how to avoid these. In using other people’s information, giving citations and proper referencing can help give credit to the correct source of information.
