About DiBabelYurikBot and TNT Template

I got a message in Malayalam wiki about DiBabelYurikBot, and TNT template. How can I implement this on malayalam wiki. Any leads. What are the things i want to translate also where I want to do that. -- Ranjithsiji (talk) 02:44, 29 April 2019 (UTC)

Fidgetspinnerrambling a user at dewiki has actually said that it is better to run it without the bot flag. Note that currently it is more of a fancy editor than a bot -- I edit very few pages with it. Please see dewiki discussion, and let me know what would be the correct path forward. How did SubsonicViper achieve in Jan-2014 a framed, interactive map in Wikipedia article Park Güell (powered by kartographer and sourced from OSM)?

Hi Yuri,

The Park Güell Wikipedia article's "Difference between revisions" at:

shows that SubsonicViper made edits on 20-Jan-2014 that included inserting "inline" command in display subroutine of the coords template, so it then reads:

   "coords = ... Coord |41|24|49|N|2|09|10|E|region:ES-CT_scale:5000|display=INLINE,title... "

Somehow this change (or some other change in the same version) resulted in the appearance of a frame in the right side Infobox that hosts an interactive map presumably sourced from Open Street Map (OSM) project at:

   https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Park_G%C3%BCell&diff=next&oldid=585989073#/map/0

If I inspect webpage code in Chrome browser, I see kartographer being used to display the interactive map:

I would not think inserting "inline" would create the framed interactive map. For example, the following code (where ".." replaces 2 curly braces) does not create a framed interactive map in Wikipedia Sandbox:

      | coords_ref =  
      | area =     
      ..

Furthermore, I do not see a "maplink" template that might somehow instantiate an instance of the Kartographer extension java class, and load dependencies such as the "JsonConfig" extension. Likewise, I do not see a "mapframe" template to present a map. And I'm not a good enough coder to understand all this.

Please tell me. How does a regular Wikipedia contributor achieve the framed interactive map?

Hi, I do not know for sure how that template is designed. Somewhere inside it should call <mapframe> or <maplink> to insert a map. Also notice that that map would not be dynamic -- a user would have to click on it in order to interact with it. See Help:Extension:Kartographer. Thx! --Yurik (talk) 23:15, 6 May 2019 (UTC)

Hello Yurik - hope you are doing well; just wanted to pass on an update to one of my adventures in maps.

I figured out a way to navigate from one point to another point on the same map. In addition, create a sort of legend of locations for all the points on a map. See: Inca Trail -- Best wishes -- Matroc (talk) 07:19, 11 May 2019 (UTC)

Babel templates

Hi Yurik,
its a fine idea, but ...
many people seem not to like it. E.g.: The use of enWP templates is possible in all WPs, but local contributors tend to change these to local templates e.g. deWP, frWP .... AVS (talk) 07:26, 11 May 2019 (UTC)

AVS, when you say people tend to change them -- change them how? I'm not say English templates should be copied. I'm saying we should have a library of the language-neutral modules and templates that anyone can use in any wiki. --Yurik (talk) 07:33, 11 May 2019 (UTC)

change them how? There is a lot of people, lacking creativity, finding a field of occupation in such contributions, e.g. changing date format '2019-05-11' to '11. Mai 2019', '-' to '–' etc.. AVS (talk) 08:12, 11 May 2019 (UTC)

AVS neither of these things will be part of the template. The date formatting will be delegated to a language-specific module (I'm pretty sure there is something like that already), and the dashes will be part of the common translation table. In my observations, most of the time people just blindly copy/paste the modules, and translate the strings inside of them. If you look at any of the smaller wikis, a big portion of their efforts is maintaining their local copies -- which they often don't do at all because there is not enough users. Templates are a bit trickier still. If we already have all those duplicates, we might as well do it right. Take a look at No globals example. --Yurik (talk) 08:21, 11 May 2019 (UTC)
