The article Yechiel Jacobson has been proposed for deletion because under Wikipedia policy, all biographies of living persons created after March 18, 2010, must have at least one source that directly supports material in the article.
If you created the article, please don't take offense. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners or ask at Wikipedia:Help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Duplicate article
[edit]The article Jewish views on Sexual relations duplicates the topic of an existing article, Judaism and sexuality. It is not usually helpful to have two articles on the same subject. JamesBWatson (talk) 13:24, 17 January 2012 (UTC)
- I do not know English very well, if you know Hebrew, or have a friend who knows Hebrew - it would be easier. These lines I write by Google Translate. About the article I wrote, in Hebrew there are two articles: one about sexuality in Judaism (including the Jewish view on masturbation and homosexual relations), and second only to sex between a man and woman are married. I started to write an article in English about sex between a man and woman are married. Maybe you have a suggestion to rename the article, there would be more appropriate? Same here
[edit]You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.
The article you created is a duplicate of an existing one. Please look/ask around before reinventing the wheel... Debresser (talk) 10:43, 22 January 2012 (UTC)
Redirected
[edit]I redirected Jewish views on marital relations to Jewish views on marriage. For various reasons:
- These subjects are very closely related, the first being a part of the latter.
- The article is written in terrible English. At some times I can't even understand what the intention of the text is. And that is with me beig a rabbi.
- The term "marital relations" is a euphemism, and might not be the best term available.
- Only misnagdim write so much about sex. Tell me I am wrong.
Debresser (talk) 18:43, 22 January 2012 (UTC)
- Just to note that I think the term is proper. Properly, there is no term in English - as there is none in Hebrew; the noun means male-or-female, and the verb means to determine the sex of an animal. Other uses are somewhat artificial. (Gender is a grammatical term.) If the Steipler could write a (one-page) "marital manual" (I have a copy), and the Shulchan Aruch spend a couple of chapters on it, then it's good enough for me. Regarding the last item, I take that as a recommendation. :-)Mzk1 (talk) 22:15, 24 January 2012 (UTC)
Thank you for your request
[edit]I am flattered that you asked for my help. I put some suggestions on the talk page. Did you translate Judaism and sexuality? It lowers my already shaky respect for the Hebrew Wikipedia. Perhaps you could use this to rewrite it? If you have a decent-sized article, please don't let deBresser delete it; I'll try to help. (He's a great guy; don't get me wrong.) Please make sure everything has references. The grammar can be fixed; I'll be glad to help; it really isn't so bad. However, I am not experienced enough to be a mentor.
On a more personal note, are you Charedi? We have several Chareidi editors here in the English Wikipedia, none of whom agree with each other(!). The article on Haredim in the Hebrew Wikipedia is horribly unbalanced - I couldn't get past paragraph 4 - but my Hebrew is not good enough to do anything about it. Also, if you live in Israel, perhaps we could go down to one of the local meetings and "show the flag". I did go to the Wikimania as I live in Haifa; everyone was very nice. Feel free to reply to me in Hebrew on my page. Mzk1 (talk) 21:21, 23 January 2012 (UTC)
- Thank you, Mzk1, for the compliment. :) Actually, see my commentary in the section above. What I would very much suggest is follow the opposite approach. Start adding material bit by bit to the Jewish_views_on_marriage#Sexual_relations section. Because that is where this subject is treated at the moment. And under its proper name. Then if the section would grow too large, and could stand on its own as an independent article, it could be split off. At the moment, the article was no more than a content fork and was written in bad English, and at some places could not be understood. I will be happy to help as well. Debresser (talk) 23:28, 23 January 2012 (UTC)
- Yes, but what do we do about Judaism and sexuality? Should it be left alone? I removed the David/Jonathon garbage, but - well, please look at it. (On the side, a lot of this stuff appears to be covered under Tzniut, even though it doesn't really belong there, as I commented there. Mzk1 (talk) 22:01, 24 January 2012 (UTC)
- While I am at it, the covererage of shficas zera both there and at Religious views on masturbation appears backwards. The prohibition is not from Onana (anyway, Er was killed for it also) but as a more serious subsidiary of the prohibition of exciting the libido, which is derived from the law of the army camp. I put a note there. Do you think I am correct, and how can I prove this?Mzk1 (talk) 22:14, 24 January 2012 (UTC)
- I never saw those articles. I'll have a look when I get a chance. Debresser (talk) 10:33, 25 January 2012 (UTC)
- Please look at the first one. I think we should encourage our host to replace that one, rather than simply add to the marriage article. Or sohuld it be RfD'd?
Adoption
[edit]Hi Yosichen. Because you don't appear to have been active for several months, I've removed the {{adopt me}} template from your userpage. However, I notice that you seem to edit only sporadically, and so this may simply be a temporary hiatus; if that's the case and you still want to be adopted by another editor, please feel free to put it back again.
