Yoshiaki Osako, born on 8, 1939 is Japanese went around world in 1968 by motorcycle without sponsorship and also he crossed America from New York to Los Angeles in 1970. He is well known among the motorcycle enthusiasts in Japan through his articles written in motorcycle magazines and it is said that he may be the first Japanese went around the world at his own expense. When he worked at a travel agency after graduating from university in 1962, but he wanted to work at an airline company and intended to study English in US. At the time Japanese could not study abroad freely after World War II because of lack of foreign currency and he took the Ministry of foreign Affairs Study Abroad Exam in 1964 and went to US with only $100. He applied for a couple of airlines companies while he was in US. But he could not get the airline job due to non-residence visa. Then he decided to leave the university and return to Japan to get the job of an airline company. He thought that in order to get of an airline job after returning to Japan it would be more advantageous to see the sightseeing spots in the world and he saved appromax.US&3,000 for a round the world traveling by motorcycle. On May 19, 1968, he departed from Los Angeles through Route 66 and arrived in New York on June 5, the day of Robert Kennedy was assassinated at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles. On June 10, 1968, He departed New York for Lisbon, Portugal by ship and made touring in Europe, the Middle East and South Asian countries. As he could not get an accurate map, he could not find a gas station and struggled to refuel in Iran's desert and he also robbed in Afghanistan but he returned safely to Japan on 24 Dec.1968 by ship via Hong Kong. Running distance: Approx.: 35,000km & 28 countries.
Bibliography
Many articles he wrote on his trip appeared in Motorcycle magazines and other magazines. The literary award "Oldies but Goodies" was submitted in 2004 remained in 8th out of 330 entries and the books he published are as following.

He worked to the Minister of Education as a member of the NGO delegation an increase in subsidies to foreign schools in Japan and In addition to doing activities such as going to the United Nations of Geneva with the foreign school representatives in Japan to let the world know about that.
