New Project
[edit]Myself and several other editors have been compiling a list of very active editors who would likely be available to help new editors in the event they have questions or concerns. As the list grew and the table became more detailed, it was determined that the best way to complete the table was to ask each potential candidate to fill in their own information, if they so desire. This list is sorted geographically in order to provide a better estimate as to whether the listed editor is likely to be active.
If you consider yourself a very active Wikipedian who is willing to help newcomers, please either complete your information in the table or add your entry. If you do not want to be on the list, either remove your name or just disregard this message and your entry will be removed within 48 hours. The table can be found at User:Useight/Highly Active, as it has yet to have been moved into the Wikipedia namespace. Thank you for your help. Useight (talk) 17:13, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

CU
[edit]Blnguyen, I submitted Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Case/Aetoss last night, but nothing is moving on it; did I submit it correctly? That silly article and those IPs are occupying tons of my time, and just preparing the CU took me an hour. Best, SandyGeorgia (Talk) 13:48, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
- Sorry I didn't see this last week. How did I miss it? Yes, they seem to be the same guy. Do you want a block? Duration preference? Blnguyen (bananabucket) 06:29, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
Looks like it may be time for the hammer, and another checkuser :-)
Such language :-) Thatcher suggestion was to block Aetoss and Renegade, and warn Mansley; I don't know if this new development changes that ? SandyGeorgia (Talk) 13:56, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks, Blnguyen; sorry for the trouble. Best, SandyGeorgia (Talk) 01:15, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
Muhajir
[edit]In my understanding, use of the term in Pakistan is not restricted to "first-generation" refugees at all, but also their descendents. Johnbod (talk) 03:17, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, I just noticed that but the wording seems to imply something weird : List of Muhajirs in Pakistan: "The people referred to here migrated to the part of India that is now Pakistan from what is now India at the time of partition of British India. The term is used for them or their parents or even their grandparents who actually migrated." It basically means "people who immigrated in 1947 or their ancestors who actually migrated" which appears to be a circular loop since anyone in the second clause is already in the first clause. The Muhajir and Muhajir (Pakistan) seem to directly say 1947. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 03:22, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
- Right, but I think it's clear what was meant. Muhajir (Pakistan), without spelling it out, seems also to cover descendents pretty clearly, taken as a whole. The subject is under discussion at this CfD, and all of those definitions should be clarified afterwards. The Pakistan project has been notified. As a memo, Umer Sharif, Humayun Saeed, Saeed Anwar had the cat removed. Johnbod (talk) 11:02, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
- Ok, but hopefully we get refs. I was mostly removing them from cricketers - most of these did not have family background in there. Not as though it's defamatory or anything, but it seems better to ref, since it is not evident from their surnames or anything. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 06:29, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

"Recent Controversy" - Hillary Clinton's Wiki Page
[edit]Why was that removed? It was based on an investigation done by Peter A. Love and David Gamble of the Black Commentator and the actual article (which I linked to) includes photocopies of the documents plus links to outside sources such as New York Times, Time Magazine, The Southern Poverty Law Center. I'd like to know why it was removed.

Dreamafter
[edit]Do you believe the rubbish about another person in his family? And what happens to him? ṜέđṃάяķvюĨїήīṣŢ Drop me a line§ 06:08, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
- Well, you've made a convincing case, and I doubt that the guy isn't a sock. However, I'd rather abstain from passing any further judgment (I've noted that the excat IP is the same and those two are the only ones on it) because I did accuse Dreamy of pointstacking on WP:MHCON because he was writing 2k long articles and rating them all as B - he wrote about 15-20 2k long articles in one month, rated them all B and collected about 95 points. So I'd rather not drop a hammer on him lest it look like a vengeance block. But I don't think the block would make any difference on Dreamafter except to stop him from contributing and he hasn't socked since then. But I'm sure it will be brought up by someone whenever Dreamafter makes his next RfA or MILHIST coord run. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 06:29, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
- Got some more for you to check. User:Foxyloves and User:Kittyloves, seems quite odd, especially since Dreamafter welcomed these two, and it is one of a few welcomes he has made. Museum in Vietnam
[edit]- Copied on 11:32, 13 May 2008 (UTC) from User talk:Blofeld of SPECTRE, cos he said he was busy and he recommended I ask you.
I was checking "what links here" for Albert Memorial, and was surprised to see a Vietnam museum pop up. The article was a mess, so I redirected to the city article, but I remembered that you were creating museum stubs recently. Do you want to have a go at turning Nha Trang Live History Museum into an article, using the material in the page history at Nha trang live history muesum? I think this is meant to be a different museum to the Yersin Museum, which looks quite interesting (and doesn't have an article). But it might be the same thing. What do you think? Carcharoth (talk) 22:52, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
- Oh, I should have left User:Synitti a message. I'll do that later, but if you do end up doing something here, maybe you could leave a message instead? If you don't have time to deal with this, just say, and I'll explain why I redirected it and help them if they want to write an article on the museum. Carcharoth (talk) 22:54, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
- End quote.
Would you be able to help? Carcharoth (talk) 11:32, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
- I've looked into it and there doesn't seem to be a museum with that name. There is however a Alexandre Yersin Museum which the article does mention "Yershin Museum". The page should be deleted as the part about the albert museum is clear nonsene, and later the Alexandre Yersin Museum started. ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 16:29, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

Modification of section on Origins and History in Carnatic music No oppositions todate
[edit]The first three paragraphs (from 'Like all art forms' to 'relevant to Carnatic music today')is based on prehistoric information and may not be of help to a reader. Therefore it was proposed to replace them with following short paragraph that was posted on April 20th. Only comment received to date is that it is some what short needs improvement in English. I would like to start as proposed. Over time it may be modified and expanded by inputs. Therefore please replace the first 3 paragraphs 'Origins and History' section with:
Carnatic music has a long history. Some aspects of the beginning of Carnatic music was influenced by Dravidian, Aryan and possibly Persian musics existed before 15th Century C.E. Vedas also played a role in the development of Carnatic music just like it has influenced all aspects of Indian culture.

[edit]Hello, my friend.
Another ignorance language question if I may. How do you say "thank you, my friend"?
Since I am ignorant of both Vietnamese AND Monkeyspeak, I am forced to thank you in English. As I am certain you know by now, after bureaucratic discussion, the bureaucrats decided that there was sufficient significant and varied opposition to my candidacy, and thus no consensus to promote. Although personally disappointed, I both understand and respect their decision, especially in light of historical conservatism the project has had when selecting its bureaucrats. At this point, I have to thank YOU for all the work you do for DYK's, assessments, and, of course, the thankless job of serving on ArbCom. If anything, I owe you more for that, than for your support (which is of course, extremely appreciated). Please do not be a stranger, and have the bright yellow primate drop by my userpage more often! Thanks again. -- Avi (talk) 19:19, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

Ian Thorpe
[edit]Hello Blnguyen, I'm Tostof from the French wikipedia. I have just finished the translation of Ian Thorpe but I have three requests for you to complete it.
- First, do you have a reference for this sentence in the chapter Early years : « A talented batsman, he once topped the season's batting averages ahead of former Australian captain Bob Simpson. »
- The "DYK" ref #9 has it. Also the refs 10 and 11 from the book have this as well. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 02:14, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
- Then, do you have any information about his income throughout his career (in advertising for example, or bonus after olympic winning)
- I can't remember exactly where, but from the top of my head, it was around 3-5 million USD per year I think, according to the sources, which surprised me. I don't remember what the official Australian Olympic Committee or Government of Australia bonus is, or if it still exists, but it was defnitely < 100,000. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 02:14, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
- Lastly, how many national title does Thorpe win?
- From counting up in the article, I believe 400/200 in 1998, 100 in 1999, 400/200 in 2000, 100/200/400/800 in 2001, 100/200/400 in 2002, 100/200/400 in 2003, 100/200 in 2004, 100/200 in 2006. I believe that gives 19 individual long course national titles. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 02:14, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
