Sehwag-size articles and stubs

I think, at least in terms of the mean, the Invincibles project (and the Miller and Bill Johnston article especially!) have pushed us colonials over the top of the poms in the article size Ashes. Re: Viet history

Dear Sir,

I've spent several years working on a new history of Vietnam. This is (in part) why I haven't done any more work on the Viet history articles that I wrote 2+ years ago. I now know some of the material that I wrote is in error, and I have given a very different slant on other articles in my book. But - I'm not done. I'm still waiting for the "Cambridge History of China - Volume 4" because I would very much like to get the current word on the one time in all of Vietnamese history that the Viet attacked China (1075).

BTW: Regarding your nice article on the Nguyen Artillery, the Trinh also built artillery but, in general, they had less cash to pay for European artillery, and (since they were on the offensive most of the time) less interest in the heavy and generally immobile cannons. I see you have a new article coming on the army of the Nguyen Lords. May I suggest that one of the best sources of information on the Nguyen Lords and their government is by the historian Li Tana titled "Nguyen Cochinchina". (War Elephants!)

Hi Mr. Yellow Monkey. I'm having a bit of trouble with somebody you seme to be acquainted with, User:Bobo192. I appreciate the work he does with cricket but I'm finding it frustrating that he will not add stub tags to stub articles he creates and in effect removing one of the most important tools we have to expand them for other editors. Worse is the fact he will not stop to explain why he insists on not using them. Please can you try to put in a word on the matter as I only have the best interest towards the articles in the long term and expansion of them in the future. If editors who go through categories expanding cricket stubs they will be missing his articles and potentially the articles could suffer for it. Content drive page?

I saw from here that WP:AUS is doing a GA 200 drive? Is there a unified page about this somewhere that lists all the Australia GAs, or is Category:GA-Class Australia articles accurate that there are 179 so far? It would be helpful to have a subpage off of WP:AUS with a list of them all, as sometimes categories can be dynamic and change and stuff. Content-quality-drive pages also help to focus efforts and let us see where we are in relation to the goal of the drive. See for example WP:DOH/TOPIC. Yes, I've given it a run through. I guess the level of detail will pass for GA, but I doubt it would hurt to go into more detail. It does seem to cover all the stuff I would expect, ie, history basis from 1788, and government edicts, Aboriginal objections and preferences for Anzac Day and the Aus of the Year. Also I am wondering why single quotes and double quote marks are used. Apart from that it's ok, and probably the expansion to make things safe and to lay a good foundation for further work and I've fixed some formatting. Stub tags

Thank you for your message. I guess I never considered to include stub tags on my article templates, though I will try to get used to doing so in the near future. If between then and now you find instances where an article should be so tagged where I have not done so, please do if you have the time and patience.

I guess I never really considered my articles "stubs", as such. Most of the articles I have created within the last two years, I have more or less considered "as complete as possible with the limited amount of information I'm given on the subject". Kannada literature, 1600–1900 CE

Hi Bl. This matter pertains to an article which I have in PR right now, and the article's title and content. I am leaving this message for two more admins to get an overall opinion. I had created an article about a year back (Aug 2007) called Mysore kingdom literature which went as a subarticle to the main FA Kingdom of Mysore which also I authored. Shortly thereafter, another user changed the name to Literature of the Kingdom of Mysore (oct 13th 2007). This title stayed for quite a while. Around Nov 7th 2008, I started to expand the article with the intent of making it a FA. Being fully aware that all the writings described in the article were written in Kannada language, I moved the article to a more appropriate Kannada literature in the Kingdom of Mysore on Nov 13th 2008. However, after significant expansion thereafter, I had covered (for context/better roundedness) some writers and poets who had lived outside the Mysore territory, but never-the-less left an indelible impact on literature within the kingdom also. To give the article an apt name, because it now covered literature in Kannada language over an area larger than just the Kingdom of Mysore, user:Michael Devore (a frequent and helpful copy editor of my articles) and I though up the name Kannada literature, 1600–1900 CE. The period 1900-2000 is normally covered under Modern Kannada literature. Since I was solely resposiblle for writing the article, I did not think it necessary to start a discussion about the name change. About this time (Dec 5th 2008), User:Fowler &fowler had started a FAR on the original FA, Kingdom of Mysore, in which this literature related article I have described was a sub-article. Fowler first insisted that the name Kannada literature in the Kingdom of Mysore must stay as is since the main article was in FAR and that some of his concerns were linked to the sub-article on literature. I pointed out to him that a FAR can't include topics outside the main FAR'ed article itself. But now he claims that the article should include literature from the period 1900-1947 (the last part of the kingdoms existance). But he does not understand that adding details of literature from the period 1900-1947 to the article breaks the "mature" modern period of Kannada literature into two pieces, 1900-1947 and 1947- 2008, which quite logically should stay as one article, and does currently (Modern Kannada literature. He has stared a thread on Talk:Kannada literature in the Kingdom of Mysore and Mattisse and Docku have supported him. I have not bothered to reply on that thread to prevent encouraging any verbose discussions that lead nowhere. So, I would like to know what your advice on the matter is. Over the last 1 year and 4 months (Aug2007- to date) I have done 99% of the edits and brought in 100% of the content. Everyone has an opinion on how to write an article and what to name an article, but I feel as the main contributor, I should be allowed to proceed with the title and content I last gave it, Kannada literature, 1600–1900 CE and let any discussions regarding title happen in the FAC with concensus. Also, the sub-article has nothing to do with the main FAR'ed article where Fowler seems to have concerns. Please advice.Dineshkannambadi (talk) 20:13, 23 December 2008 (UTC)

I was stalking around GAN and found Keith Miller in the 1946-47 Australian cricket season. One season? Really? I thought I was getting carried away with the overly-long Dwain Chambers and forthcoming Early life and athletics career of Usain Bolt. Given your seemingly endless pedigree of green circles and stars it appears I was heading in the right direction with this kind of thing after all! Ian Thorpe was my "template" for both Chambers and Bolt. I assume I can count on your input when I've got the condensed Usain Bolt at FAC? Then I wrote the article on 1948 Ashes series and needed a fork, so Fifth Test, 1948 Ashes series (GAN). Since WP:AUS is gunning for 200GAs, and the Miller forks and the Fifth Test were pretty big already, I decided to polish them off for WP:AUS/GA. Then, as the articles for Arthur Morris, Bill Johnston (cricketer) and Ray Lindwall were FA/GA, had decently sized sections on the 1948 tour, I decided to combine them with detailed match info from the 1948 Ashes series and expand them with the other tour matches for GANs as well. I'll probably do a 1948 subarticle for Neil Harvey, Don Tallon, Bill Brown (cricketer) and Ernie Toshack as well - other 1948 Invincibles - as those ones are already GA/FA and can be mixed with the match articles. Yep, I'll look at Bolt and Chambers if you want. I should probably re-expand the Thorpey article into some forks like Ian Thorpe at the 2000 Summer Olympics and get some more star plundering done, as people already complained that Thorpe was long. I'm fully aware of the pattern of behaviour! It's easy to get carried away and throw the whole kitchen sink into the article yet no sane person, ourselves excluded, would bother to read something so intensely indepth. Still, it would be such as shame to throw away interesting and perfectly encyclopaedic information...the sub-article is born. I think that the increase in number of these types shows that Wikipedia is really fulfilling the encyclopaedic trilogy of: Propaedia (Lead section), macropaedia (main article) and macropaedia (sub-article).

P.S. No rush with FACs yet. I'm waiting till I've added Chambers' biography details (released next march) and perhaps Bolty in a couple of month's time or so. Sillyfolkboy (talk) 04:46, 18 December 2008 (UTC)
