Original research and synthesis

[edit]

toki a, jan Lionsleeps26 o. :) Just so you know, I've undone your edit to Toki Pona, because I felt it was original research and improper synthesis. You are correct that there are no words that differ by just /u/ and /o/ and only two that differ by just /i/ and /e/ (or at least I assume you are; I haven't checked), but to say that we would need a reliable source making that analysis and establishing that this is an important detail about Toki Pona. This is particularly the case because your analysis only covers pu words and nimi ku suli; given that nimi ku pi suli ala like to (cf. tu) exist, it's not obvious that what you're describing is anything other than a coincidence. And since Wikipedia is based on what reliable sources say, we would have to wait for a reliable source to come along and weigh in on whether the "no /u/-/o/-differentiated words" phenomenon is meaningful. Likewise, to say that it's "effectively ... a 4, or even 3 vowel language" is your own analysis. The reliable sources define Toki Pona as a 5-vowel language, and superficially at least that's true, so a claim that it's actually a 4- or 3-vowel language would need support from a reliable source.

I hope that makes sense. Please let me know if you have any questions, and o sitelen pona. :) -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she/they) 04:11, 3 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
