80.249.49.88

Hi. You recently blocked 80.249.49.88. Could you change it to a soft block please? A very large number of people edit from behind that IP address, and many of us are reputable editors who log in. Thanks. --HughCharlesParker (talk - contribs) 12:39, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

Will do. Please mark the talk page as shared to prevent this problem in the future. --Yamla (talk) 13:37, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
Oh, I see you did already! Great! --Yamla (talk) 13:38, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

Sgshrinivas (talk)

Hi .. You recently removed the picture of this article.I reverted back to the original. Then I recieved a warning.Could I know why ? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sgshrinivas (talkcontribs) 16:53, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

Yes. As you were told, you cannot use fair-use images to depict living people. Please reread WP:IUP and WP:FUC. Thanks. --Yamla (talk) 17:36, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for that. But what was that about vandalising Wikipedia? Was that warning also for the same reason? If yes, fine. Sorry for the trouble I caused. All I did was to change a few lines here and there maintaining the credibility.I did not even change the content.I only modified the structure of a few sentences.--sgshrinivas (talk) 18:28, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
After being warned that your edits were in violation of WP:IUP and WP:FUC, you then went and did the same violation again. That's the only reason for the warning. --Yamla (talk) 13:05, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

I unprotected Grant Chuggle's talk page

Per this request, I have lifted, perhaps temporarily, the protection on his talk page (I didn't expect I'd ever be in such a forgiving mood, but maybe since it turned out that his two major pursuers were really one, I can let up a little). As per his request, feel free to block if he gets abusive again. Daniel Case (talk) 18:22, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

Oh hi Yamla! I just want to thank you for all the effort you use to keep Wikipedia safe from vandalizers! Thank you! You can reply on my talk page if you want! Lovato45 (talk) 23:48, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

Suspected sockpuppets

Hi, Yamla.
I've inserted template "IPsock" on several IP-addresses([1], [2], [3], [4], [5], [6] .
There, user that used those IP-addresses signed himself as PIO, or had similar edit pattern. Please take a look, and take necessary actions.
I've posted this message also to admin Snowolf, so you both can have notes.Kubura (talk) 07:34, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

Thanks, already handled by the other admin. --Yamla (talk) 13:34, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

User:Rikara

I see you expanded his block with three months yesterday for again abusing a sock. But could you tell me which account he abused exactly? Cheers, Face 07:57, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

Responded on User talk:Rikara. --Yamla (talk) 13:37, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
One second later, I hit an edit conflict trying to block this user. I guess your talk page is watched by many. Have a nice day, and try to stay away from those donkeys. -FisherQueen (talk · contribs) 20:22, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

Hi. I'm not quite sure what Spinp was thinking when he/she reverted your block notice and several other notices (see diff)— but I imagine you might want to be aware of it in any case. Richwales (talk) 20:27, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

Thanks, I'll add the page to my watchlist. --Yamla (talk) 20:28, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

Copyvio Images

Hello Yamla, I found two copyvio images (Image:Priyanka Chopra.jpg & Image:SalmanKhan.jpg). Now that the IndiaFM licence is settled with OTRS, I uploaded two images with the same name on Wikimedia Commons. However, I cannot add it to the actors' pages on Wikipedia because of the copyvio images. Could you please delete the copyvio images for me?? I would really appreciate it. Regards --Bollywood Dreamz Talk 05:37, 14 April 2008

What do you mean when you say the IndiaFM license is settled? Clearly it is not the case that we can use any image published on that website because they are most definitely not the owner of the copyright on most of the images there. Have they claimed otherwise? I certainly hope not! Anyway, can you provide the source to those two images? They look like copyright violations but it sounds like you know this for sure. --Yamla (talk) 13:45, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
Regarding the IndiaFM licence, please take a look at it. "All photographs used by this site with the exception of screenshots, wallpapers or promotional posters are exclusively created by their own photographers." We are only using images from events, such as parties, music launches, etc, and images from films on sets. I have been in talks with the people of IndiaFM and have gotten approval from them. Later, I got in contact with User:Riana, where both of us finalised everything. After that, she forwarded our e-mails to OTRS, and they approved. If you want more info regarding the licence take a look at this As for the two copyvio images. The Image:SalmanKhan.jpg has been deleted. That is the one that I uploaded on Commons. It is a real picture of the actor and not his wax replica. The copyvio [Salman Khan] image was already deleted by an admin/user or automatically due to the tag that was there. So you don't have to delete that. The Image:Priyanka Chopra.jpg was uploaded by User:Surper88west, who previously uploaded many copyvio images. Take a look at his talk page and contributions. However, some of the images he uploaded were deleted. --Bollywood Dreamz Talk 15:55, 14 April 2008
Thanks. --Yamla (talk) 16:14, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
Yamla, I don't know how to nominate an image for deletion. Could you please delete this image (Image:Priyanka Chopra.jpg) for me as I have to upload the one from Commons onto the actress' page. Thanks --Bollywood Dreamz Talk 17:43, 16 April 2008
On what basis? Copyright violation? If so, I'll need the source. If not, just give me a reason why this image is not appropriate. Alternatively, you can tag it with {{subst:nsd}} and {{subst:nld}} and it'll be deleted shortly. --Yamla (talk) 17:50, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
Actually, that was fairly blatant so I deleted it as a copyvio. --Yamla (talk) 17:53, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

Hi, Yamla,

I receive this information from you:

Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did to Mila Kunis. Your edits appeared to constitute vandalism and have been reverted. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Thank you. --Yamla (talk) 17:04, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

and I want to ask 3 questions:

1. Why it’s a crime to say that some body is “American – Ukrainian” actor / writer, politician, etc?

2. Why, when Wikipedia speak about some body, who was born in the former USSR, you use this phrase “Born in Kiev / Lviv former USSR now Ukraine”? Because Kiev always was Ukraine. But you never have used this kind of rhetoric for some body from Africa / Asia, you never say: “Samora Mashel was born in Portugal, now Mozambique”, or “Gandhi was born in Great Britain now India”. So, my question is: why this kind of discrimination against Ukraine / former USSR.

3. Why Wikipedia still use Russian geographical names for Ukraine, like Kiev, Lvov, etc, when you must use Ukrainian names, like Kyiv, Lviv, etc?

Thank, you and I promise, that I will try to apply Wikipedia rules, I don’t wont to do any harm to this source.

I never claimed that you committed a crime or that it is a crime to label somebody as American - Ukrainian. Indeed, I think this would be perfectly appropriate if the person holds citizenship in both countries. There's no discrimination against people born in the Ukraine, or at least, I don't discriminate against them and I can assure you that Wikipedia policies and guidelines do not. You removed information from that article in this edit. It was previously more descriptive. She was indeed born in the Ukrainian SSR. As to Wikipedia's naming policy, I can neither say that what you claim is true or, if so, why this is true. I have nothing to do with naming policies. --Yamla (talk) 15:38, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
I think the naming policy is that, since this is the English Wikipedia, the name chosen should be the one in common use by English-speaking people. I'm an English-speaking person, and I've only seen the spelling "Kiev," never "Kyev," in books that I've read. If I'm wrong, that would be for the editors of that page to work out on the talk page. -FisherQueen (talk · contribs) 15:40, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
FisherQueen is correct. On the English Wikipedia, we use the English names. It's not relevant whether these come from Russian, from Ukrainian, or from any other language. Similarly, on the French Wikipedia, for example, we would use the French version of the name. Or at least I presume it works the same way there, I sadly do not speak French. --Yamla (talk) 15:42, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
In Esperanto, it's Kievo. In case you were wondering. -FisherQueen (talk · contribs) 15:46, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

Hi. I have some concerns about this blacklisting and I have expressed them at the blacklist discussion page entry. They're based on my own hard-learned experience blacklisting similar large sets of links without removing them first. For an example of a similar situation, look at MediaWiki talk:Spam-blacklist#freerepublic.com. If regular editors have added a bunch of later blacklisted links, it gets especially messy and acrimonius. I've seen similar blacklistings go to RfC and almost to ArbCom. Even if the links were all spammed, there's still a lot of frustration for our regular editors until they're all cleaned up.

Please reconsider blacklisting this domain for now.

Thanks! --A. B. (talkcontribs) 15:14, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

PS Thanks for your help with spam and links problems. We can always use more help at WikiProject Spam, so feel free to join us.

I responded already on that page. I think I addressed your concerns by basically agreeing with everything you said.  :) --Yamla (talk) 15:28, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

Vandal at the Janice Dickinson article

There's this persistent vandal at her article who loves to strip her article of labeling her a supermodel, even when there are valid sources stating that she is, all because he or she doesn't feel that she is. I have a better reference that states that she is, which I'll add to her article once I have computer access again, but I'm sure that that vandal would remove or ignore that as well. This has been going on for a while, and that article was put on lock from all IP addresses editing in that area before just to stop that vandal. It seems that such a lock needs to happen again.

Warnings from you to this vandal would be much appreciated, and if that doesn't work (which it probably won't, and his or her IP address keeps changing), a semi-protection block or something of that sort so that this vandal can once again get the point. Thanks, Yamla. Flyer22 (talk) 19:42, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

I really don't know enough about that person. Could you try WP:AIV? If not, let me know and I'll semi-protect the article for a while. --Yamla (talk) 21:58, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

Adultswimla

Hi, you seem to be the admin that blocked User talk:Adultswimla contribs initially for disruptive editing. Well he seems to be doing that again to several video game articles. Either adding in platforms that the video game will not be released on or whimsically reordering the platform list. He also seems to have blanked his talk page which means he has read the notices left by other editors yet he continues to ignore other editors warnings. Strongsauce (talk) 02:16, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

I agree. Blocked indefinitely. Note that he is using sockpuppets as well. --Yamla (talk) 02:02, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

Hello Yamla,

I received this message:

Please stop. If you continue to vandalize Wikipedia, as you did to Eva Green, you will be blocked from editing. --Yamla (talk) 21:03, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

How was my change vandalizing? I simply changed her picture to one already on the site--from Eva Green at the BAFTAs to Eva Green portraying Vesper Lynd. Considering the picture was already up on the Vesper Lynd wikipedia page, I don't know what rules I could have been violating by making such a change. 71.137.245.205 (talk) 21:23, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

The image itself pointed out that you could not use it. Additionally, there's WP:IUP and WP:FUC. --Yamla (talk) 21:33, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

Please do not delete fair-use rationales from images on Wikipedia, as you did to Image:Rosetyler2.jpg. Your content removal does not appear constructive, and has been reverted. I was in the middle of reverting awry updates to those images and restoring them to the articles. Thank you. EdokterTalk 21:59, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

I have already reverted that. However, you must provide sources and should rewrite rationales when you change the image. --Yamla (talk) 22:00, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

STOP NOW!

I am repairing vandalism and replacing the images to their proper articles. So stop editing the image and removing them! EdokterTalk 22:06, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

Possible sock

Hello again!

In your opinion, since you've dealt with this somewhat extensively, what do you think about the possibility of I Wish You Well (talk · contribs) being a sock of Brexx (talk · contribs)? The articles are the same (Mariah Carey, The Sims and Desparate Housewives which he edited under his now blocked pseudonym Leavin (talk · contribs)), not to mention the signature image warnings all over the user talk page. SWik78 (talk) 14:46, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

Janice Dickinson Vandal Part 2

Excuse me for starting a new section on this rather than stating something else in the first section about it, Yamla, but the PlayStation 3 doesn't allow me to respond after so many words are in one section. It's also the reason it's best that I don't take this to the place you suggested above, because I can't communicate my best using the PlayStation 3 (no one can).

You said you'd protect the Janice Dickinson article for me if I said that's what it needed. Well, yep, it needs it, Yamla.Flyer22 (talk) 20:03, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

Miley Cyrus and Controversy

Yeah, I can agree with you that maybe the term 'controversy' is too strong an implication, at least in our shared opinions. As I attempted to explain in the statement, this is not on par with things like Paris, Britney and that High School Musical actress and /should/ be far from erotic. However, since it is clearly newsworthy (and not just teen pop magazine gossip), I'll move it to the Personal Life subsection. Thanks for the guidance. --LeyteWolfer (talk) 15:04, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

Hi Yamla, I'm myself not quite convinced User:Emetko is Dodona. It's a very old account, much older than any known Dodona activity, and Dodona probably wouldn't bother with unblock requests but just create new throwaway accounts. I'll see if he posts again; Dodona is easy to recognise once you talk to him and doesn't normally conceal himself much. Those IPs may well be in some school or something and be occasionally used by somebody else. Fut.Perf. 14:55, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

New Project

Myself and several other editors have been compiling a list of very active editors who would likely be available to help new editors in the event they have questions or concerns. As the list grew and the table became more detailed, it was determined that the best way to complete the table was to ask each potential candidate to fill in their own information, if they so desire. This list is sorted geographically in order to provide a better estimate as to whether the listed editor is likely to be active.

If you consider yourself a very active Wikipedian who is willing to help newcomers, please either complete your information in the table or add your entry. If you do not want to be on the list, either remove your name or just disregard this message and your entry will be removed within 48 hours. The table can be found at User:Useight/Highly Active, as it has yet to have been moved into the Wikipedia namespace. Thank you for your help. Useight (talk) 18:44, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

Hi there!

You have helped me out quite a bit in trying to keep illiegal sockpuppets of banned user Brexx (talk · contribs) off this project. I don't know if you were aware or not but I recently requested a checkuser for what I suspected to be another sockpuppet of his and it turned out that I was right. The results of that can be found at Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Case/Girl Get it. Anyways, a brand new account under the name Agent999 (talk · contribs) is editing some of the same articles with the same characteristics of writing as Brexx is well known for (see this keep vote for example). Do you think we can safely assume this to be Brexx or would you consider another checkuser to be a more cautious approach?

Declined unblocking of "Zombie Proxy"

Hi there

I got a message dated 26 March that my request to have my access to editing Wikipedia unblocked. I am a very infrequent (and usually minor) contributor. As far as I am aware, I have never done any edits that could be considered malicious or against Wikipedia guidelines (except perhaps for minor stylistic issues) I am not a technical person, but as far as I can tell my computer has no evidence of being a "zombie computer" My anti-virus is up to date, my firewall is installed, I have all the latest updates for my OS and I have (recently) run a spyware check on my pc. My computer has never showed any abnormal behavious and I have never detected a virus, spyware or other malicious software and I am reasonably careful about running downloaded files from the internet. I am just a private user - so I don't have a network administrator. I am not sure what exactly I should be doing to fix the problem? As far as I know my computer doesn't have a problem. Is it the IP that was causing problems or my username? Is it not possible that another user/computer altogether had the same IP address?

Thanks, Nyorke (talk) 20:49, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

That you can edit my page shows that you are not blocked. --Yamla (talk) 01:40, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

Block Help

Hello. It's been a year and a half already and I'm still waiting to get unblocked. I only want to use my account to make edits because I don't want to edit using an ip address. When I had originally brought up my unblock request here Unblock request, you turned it down and said that it was too early or whatnot. It has now been a year and a half. Can you please, please help me get unblocked so that I can edit using my own user page. I seriously do not want to create a new account. I only want to edit using my original user page, Zarbon. Please help me. I don't know who else to say this to. And yes, I know that my edits were supposed to be constructive and yes, for the entire year, I did not make any edits because that's what you told me to do. But then, after this last 6 months, I've been editing under my ip address. All I want is to use my original username to do my edits. That is all. I don't want anything else. I will not create any other accounts. I am still sorry that I created Dodoria an entire year and a half ago. But seriously, I've been punished long enough. Can you please help me get unblocked. Can you please place an unblock request for me. I will verify whatever is needed in order to maintain my identity. Please help me Yamla. You promised that you would look into it 6 months ago. And now it has been a year and a half since my initial block. Please, I am seriously asking you wholeheartedly here. I have the same account name on wikiquote and wikimedia commons. You can check there for further deliberation as to how well I have been contributing. I have been following guidelines and only editing constructively. Please help me Yamla. Thanks again for your time, I greatly appreciate your help. 72.229.48.178 (talk) 16:50, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

As you are able to post here, you are clearly not blocked. --Yamla (talk) 01:40, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

My user page is still blocked. If I were to login, my ip address would be blocked along with it. The block is indefinite as it has not been raised for nearly two years. Can you please help unblock my user page, Zarbon so that I may login. Please. I am seriously begging you because I don't want to edit using an ip address. 72.229.48.178 (talk) 04:31, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

Yamla, please help me, I'd really prefer that I wasn't shafted for another six months. I really want to login under my user name and be able to use it again. I've seriously been punished long enough. Please help me. 72.229.48.178 (talk) 01:47, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

I'm sorry but this is getting very annoying. Can you please help me because I don't want to wait another year. I mean seriously, two years is enough. Please respond. 72.229.48.178 (talk) 16:29, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

Daddy Kindsoul sockpuppet?

Hi, I have a strong suspicion that User:MickMacNee is a User:Daddy Kindsoul sock, but my evidence is mostly circumstantial and I'm not sure if it's enough to start a sockpuppet discussion. Since you seem to be the admin who incurred the most wrath from this user, I thought you'd be able to tell better.

I've interacted with this user on Wikipedia:Possibly unfree images/2008 May 16#Image:Shearer poster.jpg, where he accuses me of copyright paranoia, which Kindsoul did frequently to justify specious copyright and fair use arguments. The image in question is a repeat upload of an image uploaded by Kindsoul (later copied to, and deleted from Commons).

The tone used by the two users are the same (including the aforementioned accusation of copyright paranoia) - defensive and uncivil against anyone who disagrees with him, there's some overlap in topics covered by the users, and the account was created a little over a week after Kindsoul was indefinitely blocked. Please take whatever action you thin is appropriate, or advise me on what I can do. Thanks. --Mosmof (talk) 15:00, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

I have more potential socks, a fair proportion of the edits to the Faster Pussycat article over the last year appear to be socks which started appearing from that era on and follow Kindsoul's edits to that article, with similar tone. Though I'm not familiar with the history so I'm not sure what to look for. It even looks like some socks reverting each other, or arguing with each other? Lots of single purpose accounts basically, some who edit for just a day. - Owlmonkey (talk) 07:43, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

Brexx sockpuppet

Hi!

Sorry to bother you again but I thought you should take a look at something. Last week I asked you for your opinion on whether or not RIHANNA RELOADED (talk · contribs) could be a sockpuppet of Brexx (talk · contribs) and you had suggested for me to take it to RFCU since you were unsure. If you wouldn't mind, could you please take a look at Talk:Dina Lohan‎ where RIHANNA RELOADED and myself are currently in a discussion? Other than Brexx's recognizable style of writing, I believe RIHANNA RELOADED, upon my challenge, admitted to being the same as Brexx but he/she claims to have been unblocked by an admin.

Please let me know if you can reasonably believe that RIHANNA RELOADED is, indeed, another sock evading puppet of Brexx based on that new info.

Thanks! SWik78 (talkcontribs) 19:22, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

Don't worry about this. RFCU has resolved the issue. Thanks again! SWik78 (talkcontribs) 18:40, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

As the admin on the previous user block, I think you should know he appears to be back as User:ItaliaIrredenta. Dionix (talk) 23:46, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

Actually he was found to be a sock of User:Brunodam (see Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets/Brunodam. Sorry :) Dionix (talk) 18:47, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

Tajtheman

I know he is blocked but I truly believe he is a good editor. I don't know if he can be unblocked know. He hadn't used the steelcity one once he used the one now. And he did say he didn't know it was sockpuppetry. One question. How do you know when it is sockpuppetry? Chubbennaitor 08:18, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

Reason for warning unknown

Hi

I've just noticed that I have a 'new message'. On going to this message, which has a header of August 2007, it seem I am accused of maliciously editing a Wikipedia article on 'Celebrity'. I have never read this article much less edited it. This is my private computer and no one else has access. I am unsure why I am accused of this action, and why it has not appeared until today (if indeed it was originally sent on 31 August 2007). Even the fact that I (unintentionally) did not sign this note shows that I am not a proficient Wikipedia user. I tidy up a few bits of punctuation or grammar here and there, but haven't made major changes to any articles. I don't have, or want to acquire, the technical know-how. Your thoughts on how apparently malicious edits to the Celebrity article have been attributed to me are appreciated as I am fairly bewildered. Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.167.72.236 (talk) 12:36, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

A response before you archived my page would have been nice, but I guess I'll take it as a sign that you don't attribute these edits to me. 124.179.65.249 (talk) 12:35, 19 June 2008 (UTC)

Copy-pasting from article by anonymous user

Hi there, can i ask you a small question? This user copy-pasted part of [article] over a section of the Declaration of helsinki page. I just reverted that section to the previous state and left a message on his page, where i noticed you warned him before. Could you please let me know if i acted correctly? Or should i have followed some speedy deletion protocol? Thx Pizzaman79 (talk) 10:49, 10 June 2009 (UTC)

Policy guidance

Hi

A user whom you blocked indefinitely two years ago is back in uploading copy-vio images. I have raised the issue here. I need your input to proceed on this matter as one of the clerks want further diff to substantiate the case against him even though he actually admits to be a sock master. There are now 1,074 pages which he seems to want to "upgrade" to GA status. I believe there is a serious risk of legal exposure here. Anwar (talk) 15:47, 31 March 2009 (UTC)

editing of seattle times entry by annonymous user

He(IP 192.251.219.11 ) has twice removed a section addressing a headline controversy that happened with the newspaper in 2002. He says its irrelevant because the controversy is dated. If that criteria was used for sections in all wikipedia entries, heck alot of controversies would be deleted. The Seattle Times insulted Asian Americans in 2002, the newspaper apologized but its part of the paper's history and I included a reference link. Can this vandalism by the above IP be stopped? —Preceding unsigned comment added by WilliamJE (talkcontribs) 02:14, 16 July 2009 (UTC)

Brittany Murphy

You're trying to fight an avalanche of news reports about her death. Anyways, there's no need to put a message on my talk page about a policy I'm well aware of. Jwesley78 19:28, 20 December 2009 (UTC)

Sorry. The only news report I saw, and the only one ever cited on that page, was from tmz.com, a very unreliable source. If you have other sources independent of tmz, please do bring them up on the article's talk page! Thanks. --Yamla (talk) 19:30, 20 December 2009 (UTC)

tmz is not unreliable. They broke Michael jacksons death first and several other celebrity deaths before any other news outlets did and they were right and first about Brittany Murphy, and Now Corey haim as well. Tmz is a good source.--99.177.250.140 (talk) 05:42, 12 March 2010 (UTC)

Please read WP:RS. Just because they are sometimes correct, and often first, does not mean that they meet Wikipedia's requirements to function as a reliable source. --Yamla (talk) 17:30, 12 March 2010 (UTC)
