Thank you for the question. Adding those references from a local newspaper will stop the proposed deletion, but ultimately the article will need more sources for the content of the article to be substantiated. I would recommend reading WP:REFB for more information about referencing in Wikipedia. If you have any further questions, feel free to talk to me again.
