Veganism

[edit]

Hi, could I ask you to stop making this edit, please? First, that's not how we format references. More importantly, the reference is already in the lead, in one of the footnotes. If you do a search for the URL, you'll see it. Many thanks, SlimVirgin TALK|CONTRIBS 17:02, 5 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You respond by restoring it? That isn't helpful. Also, the next edit you made involved another style error. We begin articles by offering the alternative terms up front; see WP:LEAD.
I'm in the process of trying to fix this article up—which means making it compliant with our content policies and Manual of Style—and I'd therefore appreciate it very much if you'd make your suggestions on Talk:Veganism, so we can discuss them, rather than continuing to revert. There's a lot of work involved in fixing up an article like this. SlimVirgin TALK|CONTRIBS 17:26, 5 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I've understood what I wanted to say about the references. Sorry for the inconvenience. Thank you very much.Xxxzenicxxx (talk) 17:32, 5 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
No worries. The International Vegetarian Union article you found was very helpful, by the way, and I've added more material from it, so thank you. SlimVirgin TALK|CONTRIBS 17:51, 5 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Once again, we start articles by defining the terms, not like this. See WP:LEAD. SlimVirgin TALK|CONTRIBS 19:19, 6 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but your recent edit removed maintenance templates from Humane party. When removing maintenance templates, please be sure to either resolve the problem that the template refers to, or give a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry, as your removal of this template has been reverted. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia, and if you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Thank you. If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Humane party requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Stuartyeates (talk) 09:12, 4 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Veganism again

[edit]

Hi, could I ask you again to stop reverting at Veganism? You're adding your personal opinion to the first two sentences, using an old source that you favour, and there are objections on the talk page. (What the British Vegan Society decided decades ago, and what is the case nowadays, are not necessarily the same thing. No organization is in control of the way the word "veganism" is used.) The writing is also problematic.

It would be very much appreciated if you would discuss it on talk rather than repeatedly restoring. Many thanks, SlimVirgin (talk) 16:05, 5 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You also have control over how you use the word "vegan", but that you are doing. Veganism is the practice of abstaining from the use of animal products in all areas of life.Xxxzenicxxx (talk)
But some sources, and some vegans, use the term "veganism" to refer to a vegan diet. I know you strongly disagree with this, but we're not allowed to dictate the content of articles according to our personal views. Also, the earliest vegans followed a vegan diet only, and the first definition of "vegan" by the British Vegan Society was simply the diet. So in a sense the current trend is going back to veganism's roots.
I do take your point that a lot of vegans (perhaps most) see it as a philosophy, not only a diet, but the lead does reflect that point of view too. We have to reflect multiple points of view, per WP:NPOV, or at least all the points of view we find in reliable sources. SlimVirgin (talk) 23:39, 5 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
