Incongruity in the Vert Skating article

[edit]

Hi! Question. You have a section all on its own that states "...as of 2012 there are less than 15 professional vert skaters attending competitions." You then go on to list 42 professional skaters in the notable category. Which is it, please? Thanks. Regards, --Manway 23:22, 2 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

that's the history since X Games started in 1995.. list of athletes that won x games medals. XK8ER (talk) 23:25, 2 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. Makes sense now. Regards, --Manway 23:30, 2 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

AFC Issue

[edit]

You have requested to delete one of my pages because (No independent, reliable sources about her) my questions is, do you think X Games and LG Sports medalists don't deserve a wiki page and are not noticeable athletes? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ayumi_Kawasaki

This isn't about what they do. In order to have an article on Wikipedia, there must be independent, reliable sources per WP:GNG. If you notice, I haven't proded other pages because they had sources, but I'm about to prod another article. Bgwhite (talk) 07:04, 30 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
its very hard to find unbroken links, most sources are resoundings from TV like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AIniIMytY6c
Unfortunately, that isn't a source either. This is a catch-22, especially for more "obscure" sports... They are "obscure", so they don't get alot of press, without the press, they don't get a Wikipedia article. Bgwhite (talk) 07:15, 30 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
well its not like they are completely underground sports, they come out on TV and on newspaper but I dont collect them so its almost impossible for me to provide those sources. Ill keep searching the web and adding more ref links — Preceding unsigned comment added by XK8ER (talkcontribs) 07:19, 30 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
There are a few more articles that need more sources, but I didn't have the heart to Prod them just yet. I didn't want to discourage you anymore. Looks like WikiProject Extreme Sports is dead, so no luck there asking questions. Ask for help in finding references at Wikipedia:Teahouse. I think they have access to paid sites. Bgwhite (talk) 07:31, 30 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
alright, I was able to find more sources like ESPN websites and stuff, but will the pages be deleted? — Preceding unsigned comment added by XK8ER (talkcontribs) 07:48, 30 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
If warranted, the articles won't be deleted for atleast 10 days, so there is time to look for sources. I'll take a look tomorrow and I'll remove the Proposed deletion tag if needed... I'm about to goto bed for the night. Oh, make sure you sign your post with ~~~~ Bgwhite (talk) 07:57, 30 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Bgwhite, I was wondering if you were happy with the independent references that I posted for Borja_Fernandez_(Skater) and if you still need me to find some more.. The ones that I found were all in Spanish but now I'm using chrome browser that translates into English.. let me know. thanks XK8ER (talk) 01:56, 3 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

issue with skating

[edit]

Hello, you keep changing vert skating sections and modifying and I don't mind but vert skating has nothing to do with street or park skating which is aggressive skating. XK8ER (talk) 15:08, 3 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Aggressive skating is simply the parent category. If you think the parent should be Category:Inline skating then thats fine with me. But it should never be in itself. Moondyne (talk)
perfect, switched to inline skating instead.. one more thing.. shouldn't it be "Vert_Skating" page, instead of "Vert_skating"? XK8ER (talk) 15:25, 3 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. The category should be moved Category:Vert SkatingCategory:Vert skating. You'll need to change the articles. Cheers. Moondyne (talk) 15:31, 3 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Better still, Category:Vert skaters. Moondyne (talk) 15:38, 3 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
yes I did see you moved the page into "Vert skating" but is that the correct format to just capitalize the first letter of the page? XK8ER (talk) 15:41, 3 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes it is. Moondyne (talk) 15:46, 3 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Okay no problem, but how about "Michael Jackson" or "United States" etc..? XK8ER (talk) 15:50, 3 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
They're common names. Look at the other forms in Category:Inline skating for consistency. Moondyne (talk) 15:53, 3 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
one last thing, I created the category page for (vert skaters) as you recommended, now I have to go in the 46 pages of vert skaters and change category page from (vert skating) into (vert skaters) manually? XK8ER (talk) 15:59, 3 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
yep. :) When thats done, I'll delete the old and empty category for you. Moondyne (talk) 16:00, 3 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
okay, its all changed now and the page its empty XK8ER (talk) 16:36, 3 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
 Done Moondyne (talk) 00:29, 4 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I looked at Fernandez' article. There still are no references that talk about him. As it stands now, I still think it should be deleted. I highly suggest you goto the Teahouse and get some advice. The people at the Teahouse specialize in this. Note... I'm just one person with an opinion and it takes more people to delete an article. Bgwhite (talk) 02:25, 31 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Bgwhite, maybe I can scan the newspapers articles about him, what is it that you are looking for exactly? XK8ER (talk) 02:39, 31 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
There needs to be something that talks about him. Atleast a few paragraphs long. It can't be a general blog (newspaper blog is fine) or a forum. Bgwhite (talk) 02:48, 31 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
okay I added two new ref links at the bottom, one is an archive and the other one is an interview in Spanish. XK8ER (talk) 03:06, 31 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
You are going to hate me. The archive is of his homepage. This is not independent, so it doesn't count. Interviews are iffy as alot of them don't count because they are not independent. However, with an article with no good refs, this really helps. Maybe another way would do it... what is the very top competition for vert skaters? What is the WorldCup/Olympics of skating? Bgwhite (talk) 03:28, 31 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
there are about over a hundred vert skaters around the world and about 40 have medals.. of those about 5 or 6 are from the United States, its not like skateboarding with Tony Hawk that its very commercial with clothing line and video games, but its not underground either. One big issue is that inline vert skaters and inline park skaters were considered equally because of the inline skates but its a totally different sport. Park and vert skating got kicked out from the ESPN and X Games because of the park skaters, they were acting very immature, insulting judges, trashing shows and competitions and drinking alcohol.. long story shot, vert skaters were trying to defend park skater and they got kicked out too. All they have now is broken EPSN pages and their career is over or at least in the USA.. now Europe and China are having competitions like the X Games in Shanghai etc.. I added one more ref link. Articles for creation

[edit]

Do not add the Articles for Creation (AfC) tag on talk pages for articles you have created. The articles didn't go thru AfC and the creating author cannot approve their own articles. Bgwhite (talk) 06:52, 30 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I have read this line maybe like ten times already and its very confusing to me, what exactly?

A page you started has been reviewed!

[edit]

Thanks for creating Superpipe skiing, XK8ER!

Wikipedia editor Legoktm just reviewed your page, and wrote this note for you:

I'm marking this article as reviewed, however I would appreciate it if you would fix up the references section to use inline references (see WP:REFB). Thanks.

To reply, leave a comment on Legoktm's talk page.

yes sorry about that, just updated the page can you double check it XK8ER (talk) 18:30, 4 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Er that's not exactly what I was referring to. I meant using the <ref></ref> syntax. But no worries, I'll try and fix it up now. I think it might be DYK material if some more work is put into it. Legoktm (talk) 18:47, 4 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Thumper Nagasako requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a real person or group of people that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay.
