Mac OS X & Firefox

[edit]

Hi, thanks for your note. Yes, I have problems too with Firefox and weird artefacts and cursors going missing. It's a price we have to pay to avoid using IE7 I suppose. I can't find anything that will fix it so I just have to live with it. Sorry, that's not very helpful is it?! Cheers for now, and welcome once again. Your report to AIV

[edit]

Hi there. You just reported an IP address on the AIV page, but it was not in the correct format. It needs to follow the correct format so that it can be edited and removed by the helper bots if a ban is issued. I've fixed it up this time, but please be more careful in the future :)

Semi-protection

[edit]

In response to your question on Village pump, semi-protected (sprotected for short) tags are added to articles the same way as any other template. Also, sprotection can be set to expire after a certain time, though the admin who protected the page may not always remember to remove the template. To check if a page is protected or not, click the View logs for this page link near the top left corner of the page history. Mr.Z-mantalk¢ 02:58, 15 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Reverted edits to User talk:64.85.234.166

[edit]

Oh, cursed pop-ups! I meant to revert his blanking of his page, not your reversion of his blanking of his page. Sorry. Hope you get it resolved with this user. Cynrin 03:15, 15 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Vert's comment, moved from the main User name space

[edit]

Are you going to go through my entire history of edits and revert all of them you absolute person with no life? The video states the name of the person in the clip and it is all over the internet, including interviews with him. Check your facts. Get a life and ADD something instead of deleting other people's contributions. Vert 13:59, 15 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Another msg moved from main namespace :D

[edit]

Yes, but it appears they've gone ahead and deleted it =( and I cut down some of the language to make it NPOV. Thankfully I saved the code and text so it wouldn't be too hard to do it again.

This is how it read after the editing:

Cougar is an instrumental "emergency rock" group from the USA. However, the members of the band come from different states from Chicago to Milwaukee. Their use of energetic and lively tunes fall somewhere between Four Tet, Tortoise, Fugazi and Nick Drake but has a more pensive feel. Cougar say that what seperates them from "the post-rock pack" is their utilisation of form and texture, which is heavily influenced by sample-based music and experimental/modern classical than indie rock. The band has an eclectic feel to their compositions from the subdued to "all-out gut-crushing riffs". They are currently on the Madison-based record label, Layered Music. Cougar toured the USA on the release of their debut album Law in America during early 2007. They plan to go on tour in the United Kingdom in early May 2007.

And as for the image someone (Lotta something) replaced it anyway because it wasn't working (which is odd because it was for me) and I presume she would have made sure the copyright etc was all sound. But hey! It's up to you if you want to try and get it going again or not.

Thank you

[edit]

Thanks for all the help [sorry about putting in in your main namespace!] Better luck next time I guess ^^ and I'll read around. Thank you =)

An Automated Message from HagermanBot

[edit]

Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You may also click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you! HagermanBot 15:38, 15 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What's your problem?

[edit]

You claim I vandalized the Blood Diamond movie page? Explain how. I removed one sentence, "Leonardo dies in the end." It was out of place. It's still not there, it hasn't been reverted like you claim. Thank you! levysscar 14:58, 15 April 2007 EST

Hi there. I'm not sure what happened exactly, but yours was not the change I wished to revert or saw as vandalism--In fact, I believe the line you took out was the vandalism, or at least a very very unhelpful edit. I sincerely apologise. Wysdom 19:00, 15 April 2007 (UTC)
P.S. I've removed my comment because it was mistaken and invalid

Apology accepted.

Natasha Duprey

[edit]

Hello. Why do you accuse me of vandalizing the Natasha Duprey article? It is a fact that she is the voice actor who did the phone sex in the song "The Future is X-Rated" by Matthew Good Band, but whenever I add this to the article, you identify it as vandalism and have it deleted. It's perfectly accurate and sensible information about Natasha Duprey, so I don't understand why it has been labeled vandalism. Lost London (talkcontribs) 01:49, 16 April 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Unless I flagged the comment incorrectly, the comment you should have received was one about unsourced information. You cannot just add what you think you know, or what you DO know... Everything added to a Wikipedia article must have a reliable, verifiable source cited. I checked IMDB, I checked the credits for the album you mentioned on a few different sites... I couldn't find anything to back up what you added.
If I sent you a vandalsim comment, it was likely because the edit asking for a source was reverted. When someone flags or leaves a comment on your page, most of the time that flag or comment contains links to important information. Please make sure you read it carefully. If you need any help finding that right information to cite your sources or do anything else pertaining to contributing at Wikipedia, please feel free to ask--if I don't know the answer (and chances are I don't ;D) then I can always find out or find someone who knows. We might BOTH learn something.
Cheers!

Okay!

[edit]

Fair enough, and thanks for the words of wYsdom ;) You caught me emptying the trash can! Since the tagging was done by someone different from the author, and because I always check the articles' histories before deleting, it seemed the appropriate thing to do - I missed the unsigned comment by the author at the talk page, so thanks for pointing it out to me, dear W :) Keep up the good work! Later! Phaedriel - 05:08, 16 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Help Me!

[edit]

I need your help. Someone keeps sending me messages on something i did not do. How do u cite someone for harrassment?

  • thank you. he claims that i edited an article that i've never seen before. and when i tried talking with him through his chat page, he said that he was "upset" with the fact i edited one of his articles. now he wont leave me alone. Peace

Okay, I'm trying to figure all this out, but I need a little more info. It looks like you've been kind of uncivil to more than a few people over the past week--I don't mean that as an insult, you certainly seem to have been trying to be constructive and take criticism constructively, more recently... but I can see why a few people might be a little upset.
However, if this is regarding an edit you didn't do and know nothing about, I truly want to help facilitate an end to the conflict both for you and for the user who seems to think you've wronged him. If you could please let me know the name of the disputed article, if not the user in question, that would be a good place to start.
Best regards,
Wysdom 02:39, 17 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thank you. I know that i have annoyed a few people, but those i resovled. This guy i have no clue?? The Name is Bobet. That may help you. -Politics rule 8:00am est.- 4/17/2007

Let me know a little more what's going on? Who do you feel is harassing you, how are they contacting you, and what are they saying? Let's see if we can resolve the matter with the person in question--it might just be a misunderstanding.
Best Regards,
Wysdom 01:37, 17 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. YOu should sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~)... that way your username and links show up automatically :) Makes it easier than looking at the history page to find out who left Comment "X" and reply, etc :)

Re: The Ocean Beach page. The info you just reverted back to has absolutely no basis in fact. If there was a grassroots effort to fight Starbucks and also another mention of a grassroots effort to close Newport Avenue (which never happened) is against the rules. I see far less violations removed from other pages, yet you're reverting back to these unsubstantiated statements. Are you the original writer of those statements? There is no reliable information to cite to verify and confirm the statements.
Regards,
Writertoo 22:05, 16 April 2007 (PST)
You left me a message about adding the word "small" to a statement. I have to cite the reference for the word "small" yet the poster doesn't have to cite anything to back up the original statement? It's ludicrous. It never happened. I'm being matter-of-fact with my comments. I'm sorry -- honestly -- if it didn't sound civil. I sppreciate your comments. I'm just having a difficult time figuring out how statements that are unverifiable are able to remain ona site. It's obvious the poster has an agenda.

To Wysdom,
Got your message about posting on the Ocean Beach page. I believe I understand how it works now. I apologize for any confusion. I'll put in the facts message before deleting anything again.
Thanks you

Kuwait Petroleum Corporation

[edit]

In Kuwait Petroleum Corporation I have replaced the copyvio by a translation of the Dutch Wikipedia entry (minus the matter relevant only to Holland and Belgium). Some sort of page is needed here, as 12 other ordinary pages point to it. Anthony Appleyard 09:43, 22 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mass speedy deletes

[edit]

Hello sir. You might want to think before tagging every other article as a speedy delete. Wikipedia is about dialogue, not single opinions. A post like "Other than that, I'd say the article appears to exist for no other reason than to promote the company" on KNPC's talk page followed by a deletion isn't something that is looked up to, especially when the company in question handles all the oil refining in Kuwait. -Zer0fighta 16:01, 22 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hello again. I apologize for that. I was trying to address you politely and wasn't quite sure what your gender was since your user page was blank. Speedy deletes are usually rare tags that are placed for reasons specified in Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion. More specifically, the sentence "Before nominating an article for speedy deletion, consider whether an article could be improved or reduced to a stub; speedy deletion is for cases where an article does not contain useful content". If it was the copyrighted material you were tagging the articles for, then there is also the criteria "There is no non-infringing content in the page history worth saving." I understand you were trying to contribute to wikipedia and I appreciate your work, however in the articles such as KNPC and KOC, a cleanup tag or a tag specifying lack of sources would have been more appropriate as opposed to a speedy delete. Sorry if I sounded rude earlier, I didn't realize that you may have been unaware of wikipedia policies. Best to you. -Zer0fighta 01:12, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Upchuck

[edit]

You may want to turn upchuck into a disambiguation page. The kind of thing you tried to do on vomiting tends to cause chaos. Also, I would recommend the use of the {{dablink}} template, which stops the text from being printable. JFW | T@lk 08:46, 23 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

[edit]

Hi - thanks for your message and advice - I have left a message ( for what it is worth ) on the COI messageboard. To be honest I don't really know how this Wiki thing really works. BUT I got involved for reasons you obviously read and understood ( your support is appreciated ). It would be nice to think that people will read and respect my comments but as I say,it seems that someone somewhere will decide that our personal details need to be published - they will disregard my comments and re write the whole thing..

I feel powerless - I really do !

For example ; A sympathetic Wiki representative put a redirect from the Beki article straight back to the band article which bypassed the text and made her details hidden and another contributor undid this action....useless hey? But again THANK YOU.

Kind Regards Stargtr

You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
