Adding staff to news station articles
[edit]Hello, Wxbear73. In regards to your recent contributions, I'd like you to read what another user has said about staff.
“ | Lists of people must meet the criteria listed at WP:LISTPEOPLE. Articles have been protected to prevent these additions and/or the editors in question blocked when they persistently continue to reinsert inappropriate material. If a name is included in the article in this way, it has to show that it's relevant to the subject by meeting WP:LISTPEOPLE. Just because a station lists its employees doesn't mean Wikipedia needs to as well, and other station articles needing similar cleanup doesn't mean this one doesn't need to be cleaned up, because whenever it's actually discussed on a station article, the end result is the same; the names that don't meet WP:LISTPEOPLE are removed. Wikipedia is also not a directory. See here, here, and here for previous discussions about this. | ” |
In other words -- Don't add names that do not have an article! If they are red, they aren't notable. If they are blue, make sure they link to the right person. If you disagree with this, than you can bring it up at WT:WikiProject Television Stations. Please do not re-add them. Thanks. Corky | Chat? 02:59, 17 April 2015 (UTC)
OK so I am confused now. I am working in good faith to try and update the Louisville and surrounding market media pages with notable staff. I just added 3 staff members to WAVE-TV with references of why they were notable. Meteorologists John Belski and Tom Wills both won multiple awards during their tenure at WAVE and I proved citations of why they are notable. Tom Wills was the first sealed meteorologist to broadcast on TV. Ryan Halloran is part of what was called "the fabulous 5" and was with the station from the beginning. You deleted all of those entries. I am about to give up on trying to contribute at this point. I am trying to follow guidelines and provide sources and articles. Wxbear73 (talk) 03:30, 17 April 2015 (UTC)Wxbear73
- Please talk about it at the Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Television Stations. They'll probably give a better description or the same one I gave you. I guess the references can stay, but make sure they are reliable sources and not primary sources (Station websites). Just make sure you establish their notability. Corky | Chat? 16:16, 17 April 2015 (UTC)
From what I read, if the Alumni category is used such as the long entry for KMOX radio, former and current on air personalities can be listed. That is what I tried to do with WDRB.Wxbear73 (talk) 16:20, 17 April 2015 (UTC)
- Just because one article has them listed, doesn't mean it is right. It just means that an editor hasn't gotten to it yet. They will soon be deleted if they can't establish notability, which in most cases an article is wanted. Corky | Chat? 16:48, 17 April 2015 (UTC)
Definitely trying to be helpful and not mess up articles. It seems the Alumni tag is being used more and the discussion of that seemed to allude that in those cases a list of current and former on air personalities would be accepted. I added 4 former staff to WAVE notable former staff with articles and explanation of why they are considered notable. Wxbear73 (talk)
On WAVE-TV I added articles to all of the ones I added. I seriously give up. Every edit I make you are going to revert. I follow every guideline and substantiate their notability and they still get deleted. Not worth my time to try and help any further. Wxbear73 (talk)wxbear73
- IF someone else said the same thing I told you in the first place, than it's how it should be done. I got the same explanation from more experienced users and those who are members of the WikiProject Television Stations. If that is what they're saying, then I'm going by it too. Like I said, if you wanted them listed, take it to the WikiProject and argue with them. You know, I once argued with them that they should be listed, but as they told me and I told you above, Wikipedia is not a directory and they are not notable. Sorry! Corky | Chat? 01:46, 18 April 2015 (UTC)
The point is I added article citations and you still deleted them. Wxbear73 (talk)wxbear73
- And so did someone else. So I'm not the only one to blame here. When I let it go and then someone says they aren't notable and need an article, then I have no choice but to remove them. Corky | Chat? 02:11, 18 April 2015 (UTC)
So 2 people say I need article citations and I add them and they still get deleted. Makes no sense. I am learning Wikipedia is very arbitrary and subjective. Anyone who would look up WAVE-TV would consider my additions of John Belski, Tom Wills, Hugh Finn and Ryan Halloran notable and the articles backed that up. They were not from station websites but from industry publications. I give up. Wxbear73 (talk)wxbear73
