If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Draft:WWPV-LP requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from http://wwpv.smcvt.edu/home-2/home/. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. //nepaxt 02:16, 16 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, if you are the owner of the WWPV website, you can contact OTRS in order to give permission to use (re-license) the information on Wikipedia. But, since you are possibly from the station, I think you might have a conflict of interest. Thank you. //nepaxt 03:11, 16 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I cleaned up the article. //nepaxt 03:27, 16 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Images

[edit]

See wp:images. Logos are wp:non-free and need to be uploaded with the "Upload file" link on en.wikipeida.org The image size needs do be under 100k pixels and use the non-free license. You can use a paint program such as paint.net to adjust the logo size. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 20:46, 16 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Started to upload it, but was informed that a copyrighted logo can only be used in an actual article and not a draft. Sorry. Jim1138 (talk) 23:04, 16 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you so much for trying. I really appreciate it. @Jim1138: Wwpv the mike (talk) 00:15, 17 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

WWPV

[edit]

You're most welcome. I'll take a look at it in a little bit, I'm just finishing up an article about a Canadian hip hop band at the moment. Bearcat (talk) 01:53, 17 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, firstly, all the Burlington Free Press links are dying on me when I try to look at them. Could you double-check their URLs? Bearcat (talk) 02:03, 17 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
It's not actually essential that the sources be linked to a web version at all — it was more that since references are actually supposed be used to footnote body text, instead of just being contextlessly listed, I wanted to see what pieces of content in the article they could be moved up to serve as a footnote for. But our sources don't have to be web-accessible to be usable; as long as the complete citation details are provided so that a reader has enough information to find the source if they need to, we are allowed to cite stuff to print-only content like newspaper articles or books without directly linking to a web copy. So if you have copies of those articles, then could you take a few minutes to figure out what pieces of content in the article they support, and move them up as footnotes for that content instead of just a non-footnoted list? Again, as long as you leave the author name, the title, the name of the publication they come from and the date on which they published the content in the reference, a web URL is not an essential component of a valid reference — we should provide one if we can, but it's not a requirement.
Our rule for radio stations is that they go at the full legal call sign of the station rather than its on-air brand name. The plain title WWPV already exists in mainspace as a list featuring both the current WWPV and the old one that became WVTX when Vermont Public Radio bought it out — this is because if a person searches for "WWPV", we have no way to know in advance which one of those stations they were really looking for, so we have a "disambiguation" page in place to help people find the right topic. But because there's another competing use for the "WWPV" title, we have to use the -LP vs. -FM suffixes in the titles of the actual articles — so that's why we can't just give your station the plain "WWPV" title without -LP, because that title's already in use. Bearcat (talk) 20:56, 17 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Bearcat: The only reason there is another page that is "competing use for the "WWPV" title" is because the the last person to edit the page decided to change the title of the saint michael's radio station to WVTX instead of changing the frequency from 88.7 to 92.5 and creating a new page for WVTX, which bty isn't even broadcasting on the air. When this person did this change he/she left all of the history of saint michael's college radio, probably because if he/she did leave only information prevalent to the new station there wouldn't be enough information to justify an entire page for it. If the WVTX was properly edited there wouldn't be a need for a "disambiguation" page.

Sorry for the rant but it is a little frustrating that Saint Michael College's "active" station doesn't have a page anymore but WVTX does even though it not broadcasting.

I also fixed the references.

Cheers, and thanks for all your help. Hopefully the page will be approved soon. Mike Mike from WWPV (talk) 23:37, 18 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

We don't only keep articles about radio stations that are currently on the air — we keep articles about defunct radio stations too. Notability is permanent, not temporary — once a radio station attains notability, it stays notable forever and it does not lose its article just because it goes out of business. As well, our rule is that the article follows the license, not the call sign — if the old WWPV became WTVX and then a new WWPV was launched as a new license, then the old WWPV's history goes with WTVX and the new WWPV is a new thing. So no, none of this was handled wrong. Bearcat (talk) 16:34, 21 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
