Sangam and Sangam literature
[edit]Hi, Can I request your help in dealing with a certain editor who insists on pushing his POV in these articles incessantly? He has been caught out using sockpuppets in the past to help push his POVs in other articles. Remember the three revert rules and rember to not to provoke such editors into revert wars. Thanks - Parthi talk/contribs 21:29, 13 November 2006 (UTC)
Eelathu Poothanthevanar
[edit]He is a legendary figure so not a real historical figure, enough citations can be found that will tell us that to factually claim him as from Sri lanka is potentially wrong as his name did not have Eelathu originally, it was Madurai Poothanthevanar, later on in literature he became Madura Eelathu Poothanthevanar. So to cliam him factually is wrong and leads to a wrong conclusion. It is simply a belivf not a fact beyond doubt. Please revert your removal.ThanksTaprobanus (talk) 15:24, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for your understanding, it is undergoing peer review currently for eventual featured status. You cal leave your comment on the Peer review project page. Thanks Taprobanus (talk) 21:32, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

- Thanks although I think I'm a bit late. I'll think of some points to raise but it's well written. I'll add the information on the second century BCE Tamil potsherds in Jaffna - feel free to edit it if there are problems. Wubbabubba (talk) 09:25, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

Hi Wubbabubba. Just to say you've done a wonderful job with your edits to the article over the past few weeks - it flows much more smoothly now, and is a much better article for the work you've done. Arulmozhivarman smiles in delight.Taprobanus (talk) 02:13, 10 October 2008 (UTC) |
- Thanks, we owe to the countless disapora Tamil kids & others who will want to know who they are at some point. This is all we can do.Taprobanus (talk) 00:12, 12 October 2008 (UTC)

[edit]I've nomianted it fror DYK, I need to make sure that the hook is cited properlyTaprobanus (talk) 02:12, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
- It is not me who finds sources, it is watchdog, I just dont create articles anymore unless I have the books myself or I can find journal articles through friends like Watchdog. This is a qualitative difference from my previous contributions which depended on the internet. Google books is also a good source, but not always. We should make TE article a good article just like Sri Lankan Tamil Nationalism just became one. Taprobanus (talk) 13:16, 20 October 2008 (UTC)
- All articles that attain some stature such as DYK, GA or FA have a parent. For SL Tamils it was me, for SLT Natiopnalism it was Watchdog, now I am glad that for TE, it is you. A word of advice always get your sources first, prefereably academic books from libraries or buy them. Get journal articles next and then rely on the web as third source. We will always help you along the way. TNation in itself is not a WP:RS source but their material can be sourced to the original if that is RS. For example if they reproduce a book, then you can cite the book, ignoring TN website. I overcame all the resistance to create meaningful content such as Jaffna kingdom etc by buying the RS books myself or getting Watchdog to get me the journal articles. I have enough material to move on to another one namely, Sri Lankan Tamil dialects. Happy editing:) Taprobanus (talk) 00:45, 22 October 2008 (UTC)
- I don’t to beat this to death, but Wikipedia:Verifiability clearly says for the source to be reliable

- It has to academic or peer reviewed
- It has to be from mainstream sources that has a review process before published
- It can be self published as long as the person is an expert in the area of concern and has been published before in a peer reviewed set up.
- Having said that some blogs in the west are becoming mainstream sources with editorial content peer reviewed by a group or published by an expert matter in the field. That’s why TN by itself is not RS because it is not an academic publisher, it has no peer review process and it may not even have the copy rights to what it is publishing. It is simply a convenient place to locate information and go the original source and cite it. Don’t cite it directly. Considering you are going to contribute in a controversial material always keep the tone neutral add balancing arguments against a certain point and keep to high caliber sources. Good luck Taprobanus (talk) 13:34, 24 October 2008 (UTC)

- Take it easy, no need to react because it may be the intent :) just concentrate on your new article, let's deal with it later with citation and neutral language. Taprobanus (talk) 18:55, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

journalist murder
[edit]Hey Taprobanus. Do you want to put as main news on the main page the murder of the anti-government editor of a newspaper in Columbo today. With the torching of studios earlier as context, it has gained coverage. [1]. RSF holds the president directly responsible. [2][3]. Wubbabubba (talk) 14:07, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
- Personally I like to keep out of immediate events because with time you get better sources. Look at Jaffna hospital massacre versus Vankalai massacre, the second one is simply a statement of confusing accusations where as the first one is a an encylopedic articles. Taprobanus (talk) 15:13, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
- I see - it's interesting how your adversaries on here aren't nearly as considerate. Personally, I find it is important as it is current, and has attracted wide reporting. Once highlighted, several sources will naturally come, as more info comes to light. It also happens to be one in a long list of stories that show exactly what Tamils are up against, and what some in the international community would rather see Tamils subjugated under.Wubbabubba (talk) 15:32, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
- All volunteers, no advesaries, but if you want can put this Lasantha Wickramatunga in the todays news section. I stick to 20 year old mass murders :(((Taprobanus (talk) 19:48, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

Tamil protests
[edit]Hey, I was just wondering... are you from London or any part of Europe by any chance? Is it possible for you to make an article about the recent protests in London? I've seen them on TV to be alot more active and dramatic. Try to make an article on the protests that took place in London if you can. Thanks! --Eelam StyleZ (talk) 01:40, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
