Chemical synthesis peer review
[edit]Hi!
I have completed a peer review of your chemical synthesis page! Hopefully you can see the comments on the peer review page but I have also copied them below.
Lead
- Has the Lead been updated to reflect the new content added by your peer? - No
- Does the Lead include a brief description of the article's major sections? - The lead includes a lot of relevant information but I would recommend adding a sentence on the green chemistry section you are adding.
Content
- Is the content added relevant to the topic? -Yes information added is relevant to the topic. I really liked how you expanded the strategies section to include so many more examples of synthetic strategies. Additionally the green chemistry section is relevant in how it can make synthetic reactions more environmentally sustainable. Great work!
- Is the content added up-to-date? - Yes the information is up to date.
- Is there content that is missing or content that does not belong? - I think there are some additional pages that could be relevant to this topic linked under "see also" but overall there are no large gaps.
- Does the article deal with one of Wikipedia's equity gaps? Does it address topics related to historically underrepresented populations or topics? - No you have not talked about any underrepresented groups but I don't think it would be relevant here.
Tone and Balance
- Is the content added neutral? - Yes everything that has been added is neutral. The only thing I would suggest is that you look into some of the statements on green chemistry. It might be worth defining which parts of environmental sustainability will be impacted to keep it neutral.
- Are there viewpoints that are overrepresented, or underrepresented?: I think you did a good job adding to underrepresented sections in the original article
Sources and References
- Is all new content backed up by a reliable secondary source of information? - You could definitely work on drawing in some more sources and referencing more material. These are some highlighted segments that should be referenced.
-"Atom economy allows chemists to reduce waste and increase environmental sustainability. ." : how does it do this and where did you get the information from?
-"For instance, the isomerizations of propargyl alcohols into conjugated carbonyl compounds follow an atom-economical approach to chemical synthesis. Green chemistry replaces the typical two-step stoichiometric reduction and oxidation process with ruthenium-catalyzed redox isomerization to form enones from propargyl alcohols, decreasing waste and increasing efficiency" : Is this information in one of your sources? How much does it decrease the waste?
-"For example, the formation of complex organic compounds by creating C-C bonds directly from various C-H bonds is simplified by innovations in transition-metal-catalyzed C-H activation and cross-dehydrogen coupling (CDC)." : This can definately be linked to a paper that describes this example.
- Are the sources thorough - You have only added one new reference into the sandbox. I can see that you have additional sources in your bibliography. you should try to add at least 4 more of those to support the information you have written
- Are the sources current? - Yes
- Are the sources written by a diverse spectrum of authors? Do they include historically marginalized individuals where possible? - No. They are all similar peer reviewed articles with no diverse authors.
- Are there better sources available, such as peer-reviewed articles in place of news coverage or random websites? (You may need to do some digging to answer this.) - The sources you have added are credible but check if they are all publicly available. I would recommend trying to even find a textbook source to strengthen your argument.
Organization
- Is the content added well-written - i.e. Is it concise, clear, and easy to read? Yes the information added is concise and clear. It was easy to understand on the first read.
- Does the content added have any grammatical or spelling errors? I would focus on the length of your sentences; some of them are quite long. Read the whole article out loud and see where you need to pause. There are no spelling errors however.
- Is the content added well-organized - i.e. broken down into sections that reflect the major points of the topic? - Yes the sections are broken down well and seem to make sense.
Images and Media
- Does the article include images that enhance understanding of the topic? - There is only one image included in the article and it is not very easy to understand because there is no caption. I would recommend you look into making a few figures for this article. It would be helpful to have one supporting reaction for both organic synthesis and green synthesis. Also consider adding a figure that is not a reaction scheme based on what we have learned in class.
Overall Comments
- Your contribution is a really good length and written well. It definitely expands on the topic with relevant information:)
- You should also try to add at least 5 new sources to the article. I can see them in your bibliography so try to see where they can fit in to support your writing.
- Try and make your own figure to add in and break up the text and balance out the article.
Great Work
