Welcome

Welcome!

Hello, Wowbobwow12/Archive 1, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or place helpme on your talk page and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Again, welcome!  Kimchi.sg 02:09, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

Your question on the administrators' noticeboard

When I put in TCCWiki, a stub I created, in the search bar it says "no results found", although the stub does actually exist. How can I resolve this problem? Wowbobwow12 01:46, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

Hi Wowbobwow12, the internal Wikipedia search engine indexes pages only occasionally. Hence pages created just days ago may not be indexed yet.
I removed your request from the administrator's noticeboard because it does not require administrator action. (See Wikipedia:Administrators for who administrators on Wikipedia are, and what they do.) In future, you can ask this type of question at the Village Pump (technical section). Happy editing! Kimchi.sg 02:09, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

Archive your talk page? :)

Whoops! I dropped a welcome notice on your talk page seeing it was empty. And realised it had been edited before only when looking through the page history. Perhaps you could consider archiving (moving) old comments on your talk page to a separate subpage, instead of just erasing them? You can read how it's done here (most people use the first method). Thanks! Kimchi.sg 02:18, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

Steps to take after reverting vandalism

You should warn a vandal using the test1 (or blatantvandal) to test4 templates after reverting his change. Sometimes it could just be a new user testing if "edit this page" really works, and this will be a polite way of telling him it does (I ran into one such newbie user today). If the user does not stop after test4, report him to Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism for administrator action. Wikipedia:Vandalism has a list of the most common vandalism warning templates, as well as when to use them. Regards, Kimchi.sg 21:53, 22 June 2006 (UTC)

Date linking

I have reverted your unlinking of dates in Mystery Science Theater 3000. While it is true that many editors unnecessarily link years or month-year combinations, which do not really make compelling hyperlinks, month-date and month-date-year combinations are necessary to provide preferences-based date formatting. Please see Wikipedia:Manual of Style (dates and numbers)#Dates containing a month and a day for more details. Note that, if you change your date-format preferences, the text in that section will change in appearance after a page reload. This allows en:Wikipedia users from all cultures to view this information in their native date format (or, for that matter, whichever format they like best). Thank you for your cooperation. ~ Jeff Q (talk) 06:53, 25 June 2006 (UTC)

Orphaned fair use image (Image:SexStyle.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:SexStyle.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. halucinogenic / poisonous

Hi Wowbobwow12 - you're absolutely right that calling a psilocybe poisonous is a blunt description (especially in the context of galerinas etc), and I think a new edibility category would be appropriate. Would you like to take a crack at it? If not, let me know and I can - but I will need guidance since my mycological training is more academic than participatory. That said, I think it is fair (for the time being) to call psychoactives poisonous, as they often cause side effects like vomiting, diarrhea, flushing, etc in addition to trips.

By the way, adding a new category will be easy at the template level, and relatively easy to track down all the psychoactives, since there aren't that many. Debivort 03:00, 28 November 2006 (UTC)

Hmmm..what to use. Techincolored tie-dyed hippy-looking mushroom would be simplest. Face with swirly-spiral eyes.......Cas Liber 04:50, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

like this one off the wikiproject template?Cas Liber 04:55, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

 • Hey WBW12 (and Cas) I went ahead and made an icon (a brain against a blue background - seems to get the point across), and encorporated it into the template while I was at it. It appears now on psilocybe cubensis. I'll defer to you with respect to what other pages should get it and which should retain the poisonous parameter. Debivort 05:04, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
(In Bartspeak) Wow..cool..:) Cas Liber 07:13, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

Hello Wowbobwow - currently all the edibility links go to mushroom poisoning, partly as a way for me to sneak in a de facto disclaimer, but you are right that they should be more specific. You're welcome to make any change to the template without consulting me first (I have no ownership of it), but understand if you are hesitant to dive into the code, so I'm going to go ahead and change it, but also leave the code changes as an example that you might be able to use as a reference in the future if you want to make further changes.

Here's the old code for the edibility section:

|- style="background:white;"
|colspan=2 align=right| {{#switch:{howEdible}
 |choice|edible|inedible|poisonous|unknown|psychoactive=<div style="float:left;"> </div>
 |deadly=<div style="float:left;"> </div>}}
{{#switch:{howEdible2}
 |choice|edible|inedible|poisonous|unknown|psychoactive=<div style="float:left;"> </div>
 |deadly=<div style="float:left;"> </div>}}
<font style="font-size:0.95em; line-height:0.92em;">
{{#switch:{howEdible}
 |choice|edible|inedible|poisonous|unknown|deadly|psychoactive=edibility: {howEdible}}}
{{#switch:{howEdible2}
 |choice|edible|inedible|poisonous|unknown|deadly|psychoactive= or {howEdible2}}}</font>

Here's what I've changed it to:

|- style="background:white;"
|colspan=2 align=right| {{#switch:{howEdible}
 |choice|edible|inedible|poisonous|unknown|psychoactive=<div style="float:left;"> </div>
 |deadly=<div style="float:left;"> </div>}}
{{#switch:{howEdible2}
 |choice|edible|inedible|poisonous|unknown|psychoactive=<div style="float:left;"> </div>
 |deadly=<div style="float:left;"> </div>}}
<font style="font-size:0.95em; line-height:0.92em;">
{{#switch:{howEdible}
 |choice|edible=edibility: {howEdible}
 |inedible|poisonous|unknown|deadly=edibility: {howEdible}
 |psychoactive=edibility: {howEdible}}}
{{#switch:{howEdible2}
 |choice|edible or {howEdible2}
 |inedible|poisonous|unknown|deadly|= or {howEdible2}
 |psychoactive= or {howEdible2}}}</font>

helpme

When I input the search term "Biosphere" I am directed to a page discussing "the outermost part of the planet's shell...". However, there is a music band by the same name and it seems only fitting that on the present "Biosphere" page there should be a disambiguation link to Biosphere (musician), which I know has a Wikipedia page. Can you help me accomplish this? Thank you. Wowbobwow12 00:03, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

I've added a link to Biosphere (musician) at the start of the article. John Reaves (talk) 00:09, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

Duplicate images uploaded

Thanks for uploading Image:Caapi.jpg. A machine-controlled robot account noticed that you also uploaded the same image under the name Image:Cappi.jpg. The copy called Image:Cappi.jpg has been marked for speedy deletion since it is redundant. If this sounds okay to you, there is no need for you to take any action.

This is an automated message- you have not upset or annoyed anyone, and you do not need to respond. In the future, you may save yourself some confusion if you supply a meaningful file name and refer to 'my contributions' to remind yourself exactly which name you chose (file names are case sensitive, including the extension) so that you won't lose track of your uploads. For tips on good file naming, see Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions about this notice, or feel that the deletion is inappropriate, please contact User:Staecker, who operates the robot account. Staeckerbot 22:14, 13 October 2007 (UTC)
