Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, you may not know that Wikipedia has a Manual of Style that should be followed to maintain a consistent, encyclopedic appearance. Using different styles throughout the encyclopedia, as you did in Degrassi: The Next Generation, makes it harder to read. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. 117Avenue (talk) 23:22, 5 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, okay! I see, I see. So the "U.S." was wrong according to the Manual of Style why? I'm confused. Is it because the style of the Degrassi page is Canadian English, not American English?Woolfy123 (talk) 23:33, 5 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Because the latest edition of the Chicago MOS says the use of periods has depreciated, and other forms of English (Degrassi related articles are written in Canadian) do not use periods. 117Avenue (talk) 23:47, 5 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, that's what I thought. So, even though Chicago MOS decided no one uses periods in "U.S.," on American-English pages, that's still acceptable, even based on the Manual of Style page "In American English, U.S. (with periods) is more common as the standard abbreviation for United States"? I get that Degrassi-related pages are Canadian and therefore use that style of English, thoughWoolfy123 (talk) 23:52, 5 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited States of Grace, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page God's Army. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Survey Invite

[edit]

I'm working on a study of political motivations and how they effect editing. I'd like to ask you to take a survey. The survey should take 5 minutes. Your survey responses will be kept private. Our project is documented at https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Research:Wikipedia_%2B_Politics.

Survey Link: http://uchicago.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_80J3UDCpLnKyWTH?Q_DL=2oczE7SODTUnF5j_80J3UDCpLnKyWTH_MLRP_5ndqor5tcGpPrF3&Q_CHL=gl

I am asking you to participate in this study because you are a frequent editor of pages on Wikipedia that are of political interest. We would like to learn about your experiences in dealing with editors of different political orientations.

Sincere thanks for your help! Porteclefs (talk) 17:51, 17 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Indecent Proposal, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Californication. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

January 2023

[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm CastJared. I noticed that you recently made an edit to Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition in which your edit summary did not appear to describe the change you made. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. CastJared (talk) 11:01, 21 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@CastJared, sorry, what did I do that was misleading? I corrected two split infinitives, which I was under the impression was fixing grammar. If I made a mistake or am at risk of losing privileges, I will refrain from correcting incorrect grammar. Woolfy123 (talk) 16:02, 21 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please do not use misleading edit summaries when making changes to Wikipedia pages, as you did to Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition. This behavior is viewed as disruptive, and continuation may result in loss of editing privileges. Thank you. CastJared (talk) 11:01, 21 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@CastJared, I genuinely did not think I was making a disruptive change or made a misleading change. I fixed split infinitives, but I can see how changing "to automatically" to "automate" may not necessarily carry the same connotations; however, my sole goal was to correct some common grammar issues without fundamentally changing the meaning, of course. I apologize and hope that this is not seen as disruptive but in line with Wikipedia's overall goals. Woolfy123 (talk) 16:09, 21 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah. They're reverted because they're not an improvement. CastJared (talk) 16:16, 21 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@CastJared, I apologize. I thought to correct grammar was an improvement. Can I get any kind of clarity in this matter? Woolfy123 (talk) 16:28, 21 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
As a professional proofreader and editor, this has me genuinely taken aback, and am sincerely just trying to contribute; however, these responses don't offer much in the way of guidance. Any help is welcome. Sorry. Woolfy123 (talk) 16:30, 21 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@CastJared, I will just avoid split infinitives corrections, then, in the absence of any more specific guidance than the above comment gives. Sorry for the inconvenience and frustration. Best, Woolfy. Woolfy123 (talk) 16:34, 21 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Alright. CastJared (talk) 17:48, 21 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

How to report vandalism

[edit]

Hi Woolfy123, thank you very much for reverting vandalism, for example in Special:Diff/1176334681.

When you encouter vandalism, please warn the user about the issue. You can open their user talk page and add {{subst:uw-vandalism1}}, {{subst:uw-vandalism2}}, {{subst:uw-vandalism3}} to the page, depending on which message you find fitting the situation. If warnings don't help, or in absolutely clear cases such as the one you have encountered, please directly report the user at WP:AIV. This would have prevented the user from continuing today.

Thank you very much in advance and best regards,
~ ToBeFree (talk) 20:23, 22 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@ToBeFree Understood! In all my years here, this was the very first time I'd encountered a vandalism problem that hadn't already been rectified. Thank you for the help and information! Woolfy123 (talk) 20:31, 22 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

How to undo multiple edits at once

[edit]

Please use a desktop computer for dealing with vandalism, if you have any way to access a desktop computer. This allows you to view the article's history, click the timestamp of a good revision before the vandalism, then "Edit", and then simply save the page unmodified. This restores the good revision.

Details about this method, and other methods, are described at Help:Reverting. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 20:25, 22 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@ToBeFree Thank you so much! Yeah, after doing the first two on mobile and realizing it didn't really work, I switched to desktop. Thank you for the help! Woolfy123 (talk) 20:29, 22 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, perfect 😊 Thank you and no worries. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 20:30, 22 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@ToBeFree Absolutely! And seeing the further vandalism of that user definitely makes me glad someone who knew what they were doing stepped in. Have a great weekend! Woolfy123 (talk) 20:39, 22 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Same to you! ~ ToBeFree (talk) 20:41, 22 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

U.S. vs US

[edit]

In reference to your edit to PMC, please read MOS:US. It states explicitly that US is preferred usage, and should NOT be replaced with U.S. unless specifically required for consistency within that article. I'll note that your edit comment is misleading in the sense that you changed much more than simply US->U.S. , and that's why I didn't simply undo your edit - please fix the mistaken portion of your edit.
