South Mountain Community College

[edit]

Please do not add copyrighted material to Wikipedia without permission from the copyright holder, as you did to South Mountain Community College. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. –Black Falcon (Talk) 17:03, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,
The exact text is not really suitable for inclusion on Wikipedia, since the purpose of Wikipedia articles is to provide an encyclopedic, neutral, and verifiable treatment of their subjects. Content that is taken from the website of an organisation (whether it be a company, a university, or a government agency) does not have these goals; on the contrary, its goal is generally (and understandably so) to portray the organisation in a positive light and maintain or improve its reputation.
It is certainly possible to use (i.e. reference) the university's website as a source for information, and I will attempt to add some content in this manner. However, as an employee of SMCC, you may have a certain conflict of interest (COI) when it comes to this article. On the whole, Wikipedia discourages COI editing, both for the sake of encyclopedic neutrality and also to avoid "public embarrassment outside of Wikipedia for the individuals and groups being promoted" (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest for details).
My understanding is that you wish to see the article expanded quickly, but articles generally take time to develop. Despite the fact that it has established policies and guidelines, Wikipedia is ultimately a volunteer project. You can try to speed up the process by bringing the article to one of the two collaborative projects that have claimed the article as within their scope (WikiProject Arizona and WikiProject Universities), but there are no guarantees.
If there is a particular problem in the article that you would like to have corrected, I could try to do it if you let me know, or you could follow the suggestions here.

Thank you.
Is it still okay if I contribute to this page?
Best,

Certainly! You are most welcome to contribute to any page; this includes the article about SMCC, but keeping in mind the guidance offered at Wikipedia:Conflict of interest. Best, –Black Falcon (Talk) 16:34, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
