It looks like you found the newsroom page, that's where we organize the upcoming issue so it would be the best place to leave podcast summaries. Thanks for the work you put in. --Michael Snow 16:34, 7 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

move to commons?

hi, I'm working on the German Wikipedia article about World Youth Day 2008 and I would love to use your picture of the Randwick Racecourse. However, I'm not familiar with moving pictures to commons and how to comply with the license and copyright rules. So maybe you can upload it yourself? Maybe you could cut out some of the foreground or maybe you could even provide another picture of the Raceground? TIA, --X-Weinzar 22:45, 13 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Norman Foster link on Peterborough article

[edit]

I am copying the following from Talk:Peterborough in case you are not watching. Please feel free to delete it and respond there if you are:

Lord Foster of Thames Bank is correct. While it is correct to omit the territorial designation, in this case, of Reddish in the county of Greater Manchester, of Thames Bank should be included as it is part of the actual title. Please see here for an example. In any case, as a Knight Bachelor, he would otherwise be entitled to the style Sir Norman Foster, which is what this article used before today. Please revert your last edit; this article is a current featured article candidate and should be free of content disputes.

Electrical swivel connector

[edit]

You marked the Electrical swivel connector page as advert. I think it is actually very likely just db-spam. The content is obviously an attempt to comply with the letter of the wikipedia policies, but it doesn't hide the fact that it is simply promoting a single commercial product, with a link to the web site of the vendor of the product. The creator of the page has also provided some edits to other related pages pointing to this page. Those are their only contributions. I can't, obviously, verify the identity of the creator, but the Hawaii connection makes one suspect they may be related in some way to the vendor of the product. Since I'm a new face on wikipedia, I'm reluctant to jump in an mark the page as db-spam myself, but I suggest you may want to consider doing so.

Wikipedia:Template standardisation - wikipedia weekly interview

[edit]

You asked for some one to interview. I guess I might be one candidate. If you don't mind a Swedish accent. I ended up as the coder of the meta template and CSS code for the new "article message box template standardisation project". In spite that I dislike such message boxes and think they should not be in the article, or at least not on top of the articles. But at least now they don't look ugly any more.

So, how does an interview work? Do you call over phone?

I'll be on-line for perhaps an hour more then I'll have to go to bed. You can reach me at my talkpage, or at irc.freenode.com with nick Mole2.

--David Göthberg 12:16, 15 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding your response on my talk page: I have a day rhythm disorder, so hard to say when I am awake and asleep. (I have no lack of sleep, instead my day+night is about 36 hours long.) But you can call me any time day and night, since I unplug my phone when I go to bed. Oh, and I can not run Skype on my computer, so you have to do a "Skype out" to my land line phone if we are going to talk. My phone number is +46-31-459856 . I promise that is not a mobile, so only AUD $0.031 per minute. If you are going to interview me you might be interested to see what my "day job" is: www.randpeer.com

--David Göthberg 14:56, 16 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Um sorry but I don't have skype out, and I have no plans to get it. Could you recommend someone else in that case? Cheers, Witty Lama 12:39, 17 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, the choice is easy. Violetriga IS the Wikipedia:Article message boxes project. --David Göthberg 16:10, 17 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Tommorow's not very good, not unless we go for a morning... let's see, if it's 1000 for me it's about 2000 for you? That might work? I have to leave around 1100 or even earlier.-- Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus | talk  17:28, 15 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, but I live in Pittsburgh, USA, now. My Skype name is on my userpage; I am sure we can work something out over the next few days.-- Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus | talk  05:24, 16 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I will do my best :) -- Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus | talk  05:44, 16 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hmmmmmmmmm. User:Anonymous_Dissident/List_of_Wikipedians_by_number_of_DYKs. I think Piotrus and Ghirlandajo would have made a more logical pairing, especially if you can convince them to do a three-way chat :))) They are both very famous and great article writers and their interests overlap..... a lot. Ranked #1 and #3 on all time DYKs they are. It would make for a more exciting panel. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 06:50, 18 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, but of course I agree Awadewit deserves her interview. Already 10 FAs this year, and I wouldn't be surprised to see 16 or so by the end of the year.... this is all the more impressive as she doesn't have a wikiproject or a patriotically minded group to give her any free votes on FAC either. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 06:52, 18 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Various and sundry

[edit]

As I will be purchasing a new computer this week, I thought that I might as well go ahead and buy a new set of headphones with mic for the interview. Since you seem to know something about these, could you offer a few recommendations? I listen mostly to classical music - that is what has to sound good. :) (I would prefer not to spend over $150, if that is possible.) I should have the new computer all set up in about two weeks or so. Awadewit | talk 05:19, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Turns out my new computer will not be available until mid-November, but I have the headphones and Skype all set up. I am currently embroiled in a stressful FAC, so I would prefer to do the interview after that has closed and the debate has died down. I'll keep you posted. Awadewit | talk 02:27, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • And, of course, now I have a terrible flu/cold. I can barely move. Is there any way we can postpone the interview a few days? My voice will sound all weird and be punctuated by coughing, otherwise. Thanks. Awadewit | talk 14:06, 10 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Finally! It's scratchy, but I have a voice. I think by Sunday, it should be back to its normal self. Otherwise you can use the computer-generated voice I've been using to communicate. :) Was it midnight here/noon there we had said before? Would that still work for you on Sunday? Awadewit | talk 17:31, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

(unindent) I only have part of the file. Perhaps your computer hibernated and stopped sending? Awadewit | talk 01:58, 26 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • If you are looking for people to interview, I think User:Geogre would be interesting. He has written far more quality articles than I have, but for reasons somewhat unfathomable to me, he seems not to be as visible as myself (although, I have my suspicions as to why). He even went on strike. I think you could have a really good discussion with him (?) about wikipedia topics. If you want controversy. Awadewit | talk 02:10, 27 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm from the the Wikipedia Weekly Podcast and I was wondering if you would be interested in coming on the show for a 20-30 minute interview. We try and get a range of people to introduce "their section" of the project to showcase some of the interesting things people do here. You were reccomended to me by user:pfctdayelise as a perfect fit for this. What do you think? I'm based in Sydney, so there should be no time-difference issues. We record via Skype, so you'd need that programme and a headset microphone and broadband internet. Later this week maybe? Cheers, Witty Lama 00:16, 8 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Would be glad to. My skype is isaac_sutcliffe aliasd·U·T 05:29, 8 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sydney-class

[edit]

Hi Witty lama. I thought I should check that you are aware that there is no Sydney-class field in {{WP Australia}}. As far as I can see, there isn't any reason to have one, either - while the importance of an article to a WikiProject depends on the project, the quality of the article doesn't. The articles are sorted in to categories such as Category:B-Class Sydney articles based on their overall class field. JPD (talk) 17:31, 26 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Witty lama. Sorry to take so long to rpely - I had been putting off looking into it until I had more than a few minutes, thinking that it would be very complicated, but it seems it isn't. The figures seemed to be updated by User:WP 1.0 bot at random intervals. So, setting the Sydney-importance and class fields should be enough, but it won't be updated straight away and might take a few days to appear. If you have more questions, it might be best to ask User:Oleg Alexandrov, who runs the bot. JPD (talk) 11:11, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Userbox

[edit]

Hey there, WL. Thanks for making such a great program. I took a crack at the userbox you asked me to make – it's up at User:Scartol/ubx/WikWeekGuest. Notice on the usage directions there are two parameters which need to be filled in:

  1. Episode number. Just provide the number; the userbox code will fill in the WP address for the right page (so long as you keep naming the pages "Wikipedia:WikiProject WikipediaWeekly/EpisodeX").
  2. URL for show. Include the entire web address for the episode in question.

Here's what the 'box will look like on the user's page. The code for this example is:

{{User:Scartol/ubx/WikWeekGuest|33|http://wikipediaweekly.org/2007/10/26/wikipedia-weeekly-30/}}
This user was a guest on Episode 33 of Wikipedia Weekly. You can listen here.

I look forward to hearing Awadewit on the next show. Cheers! – Scartol · Talk 11:36, 27 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

PS. Any reason why the MP3 link isn't available right on the subscription template? I'd very much like to be able to get a one-click download when the new one is ready. – Scartol · Talk 11:45, 27 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
PPS. I just got around to listening to episode 33; in terms of crosstalk, I wonder if the chat feature of Skype might help with this? Maybe the person wishing to speak next could type "me next" or something. Just an idea. (Also – totally unrelated – with regard to the "slowing down" of WP's growth, it seems plausible to me that the first few years of the project were about laying the foundation, and now it exists. The next stages (where we're at now) are building additional rooms, reshingling the roof, taking out excess things, etc. Just a thought.) – Scartol · Talk 14:26, 27 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I really should know better than to poke an Australian and a radio program producer ;), but several of us are dying to hear the interview with our friend Awadewit. Is there any way you could put it up sooner rather than later? Thanks in advance for anything you can do, and sorry for the cheeky pique, Willow 22:08, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Rama's arrow

[edit]

Well, that's a long story. He found out a cabal of ultra-right wing Hindu nationalist users, infiltrated their off-wiki mailing list/board for their co-ordinated Wikipedia campaign, and started RFArb. However, he made the mistake of revealing some of their emails here. So, instead of the cabal getting slapped, the RFA rather started focusing on Nirav's actions ... (not to mention the conflict of interest of an arbitrator and an admin). In the end, Nirav got fed up, requested to be de-sysopped, (he was de-sysopped in the RFA anyway, with no significant punishment for the cabal).

I'd say it is a great loss for Wikipedia ... :( --Ragib 00:11, 28 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Telephone newspaper, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Telephone newspaper is unquestionably copyright infringement, and no assertion of permission has been made.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Telephone newspaper, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. AfD nomination of Telephone newspaper

[edit]

Telephone newspaper, an article you created, has been nominated for deletion. We appreciate your contributions. However, an editor does not feel that Telephone newspaper satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in the nomination space (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and the Wikipedia deletion policy). Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Telephone newspaper and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You are free to edit the content of Telephone newspaper during the discussion but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion discussion. Thank you. Tijuana Brass 20:58, 7 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sigh. Sometimes I hate templates. To expand upon the above, I've moved the article from speedy deletion to an AfD. My primary reason is a concern over the as-yet-to-be-determined license by Citizendium; while I'm optimistic that they will decide on one that will allow such forks, at the time being, it's still being debated and Wikipedia doesn't need to cross over into any unnecessary potential legal problems. Since you've brought the article here, I'd like you to toss in your two cents to the discussion, and should the article end up deleted, we'll try to stay on top of the Citizendium decision to see if we can bring it back in the near future.
