Wikipedia and copyright
[edit]Hello Wisher08! Your additions to Gobindachandra Das have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, it's important to understand and adhere to guidelines about using information from sources to prevent copyright and plagiarism issues. Here are the key points:
- Limited quotation: You may only copy or translate a small portion of a source. Any direct quotations must be enclosed in double quotation marks (") and properly cited using an inline citation. More information is available on the non-free content page. To learn how to cite a source, see Help:Referencing for beginners.
- Paraphrasing: Beyond limited quotations, you are required to put all information in your own words. Following the source's wording too closely can lead to copyright issues and is not permitted; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when paraphrasing, you must still cite your sources as appropriate.
- Image use guidelines: In most scenarios, only freely licensed or public domain images may be used and these should be uploaded to our sister project, Wikimedia Commons. In some scenarios, non-freely copyrighted content can be used if they meet all ten of our non-free content criteria; Wikipedia:Plain and simple non-free content guide may help with determining a file's eligibility.
- Copyrighted material donation: If you hold the copyright to the content you want to copy, or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license the text for publication here. Please see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
- Copying and translation within Wikipedia: Wikipedia articles can be copied or translated, however they must have proper attribution in accordance with Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. For translation, see Help:Translation § License requirements.
It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices. Persistent failure to comply may result in being blocked from editing. If you have any questions or need further clarification, please ask them here on this page, or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you. —Compassionate727 (T·C) 14:13, 27 September 2024 (UTC)

[edit]Hi Wisher08! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor at Mahishya that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a specific definition on Wikipedia—it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Thank you. Ekdalian (talk) 11:40, 1 October 2024 (UTC)
- Hello! Please pardon my novice errors. It has been only a week since I've started editing. Evidently, I still have a lot to learn. Thanks for correcting me. Wisher08 (talk) 12:39, 1 October 2024 (UTC)
- Okay; I am glad that you have learnt from your mistake. Ekdalian (talk) 18:26, 1 October 2024 (UTC)
Please do not add or change content, as you did at National Law School of India University, without citing a reliable source. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. Thank you. Thanks, Please feel free to ping/mention -- User4edits (T) 07:44, 4 October 2024 (UTC)
- But wasn't the source I cited reliable enough? I was under the impression that Superlawyer was a reliable source regarding legal news. Moreover, the name of the person I added happens to be alumni of the institution. It's a known and established fact. I don't think there is any dispute regarding it? Wisher08 (talk) 12:49, 4 October 2024 (UTC)
- Please read Who should be included in Alumni?, What are reliable sources?, and Primary, secondary and tertiary sources. Hope these will help you. Thanks, Please feel free to ping/mention -- User4edits (T) 06:01, 5 October 2024 (UTC)
- I'm afraid I still can't see any valid reason as to why that person falls short of qualifying for a mention in the list. Could you please enlighten me? Wisher08 (talk) 17:51, 5 October 2024 (UTC)
- The person you are repeatedly trying to add does not appear notable as per notability guidelines. That individual needs to be notable in order to be added to "notable" alumni. Thanks, Please feel free to ping/mention -- User4edits (T) 09:31, 10 October 2024 (UTC)
