Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Giordano Logo.gif
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Giordano Logo.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 04:14, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

WP:OP
[edit]Note that many of the ones I listed do NOT show up as positive as Tor nodes, but most of the RBL links pages light up red with "BANNED" notices to varying degrees. I assume there are other tests for different kinds of open proxies, so using those -- if they exist -- is something you ought to do if you're not already. (Yeah, I'm NOT technically adept, how could you tell?). --Calton | Talk 14:15, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
- I would say it's inconclusive at most. They appears to be dynamic IPs, those red flags may be from previous users. If a user running a Tor exit node on a dynamic IP there is no way to tell, and blocking the whole range just because of these dynamic Tor exit nodes and can cause a lot of collateral damage. --WinHunter (talk) 14:22, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

Your deletion of the main picture (Ir2007.jpg) from the article Ilaiyaraaja -- A query
[edit]Dear Winhunter,
I used to be the lead editor of the Ilaiyaraaja Wiki article. I uploaded a good picture of the subject a long time ago, and checking up on it recently, found that it has been removed by you.
I am unclear about why it was removed. I remember that I provided sufficient reasons for that picture to be retained. In fact, the article even went through review twice for FA without there being any problems with the picture concerned.
Could you please provide some explanations? The link to the picture file's page is as below:
http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Upload&wpDestFile=Ir2007.jpg
Thank you. AppleJuggler (talk) 06:18, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
- It was deleted because no source was specified in the image (which is required), thus deleted after tagging for 7 days. --WinHunter (talk) 13:12, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
Can you bring the picture back? Because I can provide a source for it. AppleJuggler (talk) 13:25, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
Dear Editor, I was wondering if its okay with you to reinstate the deleted image above so that I can provide the necessary justifications for it. I believe the deletion was not necessary because it was an image that I created. I unfortunately do not have a copy of the image anymore to upload it myself. So if you could restore it, I would take the necessary steps to validate the image according to Wikipedia image rules. Thanks, AppleJuggler (talk) 05:08, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
- Apologies for the delay, if you feel you can satisfy wikipedia's image requirements please feel free to re-upload the image anytime. --WinHunter (talk) 13:15, 3 February 2008 (UTC)
That's alright. The problem is, as I've mentioned above, I do not have that image anymore and I am wondering if you can dig it up again. AppleJuggler (talk) 06:22, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
- Please note that Wikipedia require that the image to cite is source. If you are the uploader and know the source please download from that source again. --WinHunter (talk) 12:16, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
So basically, are you saying that you are unable to restore that image again, and that it is lost forever? AppleJuggler (talk) 00:06, 6 February 2008 (UTC)
- Well.. the upload log in that image says it's uploaded by User:Svslokesh and User:Vadali sudheer but not you. --WinHunter (talk) 11:41, 6 February 2008 (UTC)
Hmm. That's strange. I will look into it. Thanks. AppleJuggler (talk) 03:52, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
- Dear WinHunter: Your delete action was correct. The picture that I refer to is not ir2007.jpg; my mistake, so sorry. The picture I refer to is Ilaiyaraaja.jpg, which was there initially, and has all the correct copyright tags and requirements. Someone had taken it down without me noticing it and replaced it with this ir2007.jpg one, which, as you've rightfully done, should be deleted. Sorry for causing you trouble, and thank you for your patient and polite responses! Regards, AppleJuggler (talk) 03:57, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
The "proposed deletion" tag was contested by me in the talk page; please undelete Doom Builder, and I will put the article in the AfD process so we can come up with a better consensus. Samboy (talk) 20:44, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
- Please note that the proper way to contest a prod tag is by removing it, I restored the article per your request since it is a contested prod. --WinHunter (talk) 13:17, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Giordano Logo.gif)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Giordano Logo.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot (talk) 01:38, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Metrobroadcastlogo.jpg
[edit]Thank you for uploading Image:Metrobroadcastlogo.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 14:39, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

Block on Taumatawhakatangihangakoauauotamateapokaiwhenuakitanatahulol
[edit]As noted on WT:UAA, the username policy has changed. We no longer block people solely for having a confusing username, because there are many preferrable ways to deal with such situations, with blocking as a last resort. I believe your block on Taumatawhakatangihangakoauauotamateapokaiwhenuakitanatahulol was invalid. rspeer / ɹəədsɹ 18:58, 6 April 2008 (UTC)
- Can you point me to some discussion where the wider community was being consulted about this change of policy? From what I see at WT:U the policy page changed after only one day of discussion (Wikipedia_talk:Username_policy#Why_do_we_still_have_.22confusing_usernames.22.3F_Is_it_just_a_pre-block_for_disruption.3F) --WinHunter (talk) 11:35, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with Image:ACCA.gif
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:ACCA.gif. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check
- That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
- That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Orphaned non-free media (Image:IVE logo.gif)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:IVE logo.gif.
Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:22, 27 August 2008 (UTC)
- It's now in use in article. --WinHunter (talk) 17:46, 27 August 2008 (UTC)
Did you read the text that the IP removed? It was a horrendous diatribe against the Institute, presumably from a disgruntled pupil; example: The turnover rate has remained very high, because its staff are treated unfairly. They are practically indentured servants who are miserably exploited and pushed to the brink of physical and mental collapse, thanks to its preposterous and imbecilic management. Somehow, I don't think you intended to keep this libellous nightmare on the page? Woody (talk) 17:57, 27 August 2008 (UTC)
- My apologies about the text part. However the IP removed a lot of image including the logo therefore I thought it was a unexplained removal.. Thanks for pointing it out. --WinHunter (talk) 13:48, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
- No problem, you weren't the first user to do it. Several users including yourselves came along, saw content being removed by an IP and assumed the worst, without fully reading the text. I only got involved after the IP address made a post at the help desk wondering how Wikipedia could keep re-adding the text into the article. I guess we all assume the worst from IPs! Regards. Woody (talk) 13:54, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
- We got an OTRS ticket on the problem content, by the way... It's obviously good faith reverts that mistakenly put the material back in, no big deal now that everyone sees that and it's out, but it is a reminder that we all need to remember to check the details 8-) Thanks. Crotch Duster Article
[edit]I am new to Wiki so please forgive me if I am not bringing this to your attention in the correct manner.
I would like to write an article for the Florida Death Metal band Crotchduster...I noticed that you have a protect on this title. It appears that the previous incarnations of this peice were gibberish but I am interested in writing a real article...the band does exist and I would write the article based entirely on citable information freely available on the web. Please let me know if you can remove the protection. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Williamsburgland (talk • contribs) 18:34, 1 October 2008 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Image:Ejaculate.JPG
[edit]A tag has been placed on Image:Ejaculate.JPG requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image page for a missing or corrupt image or an empty image description page for a Commons-hosted image.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on [[ Talk:Image:Ejaculate.JPG|the talk page]] explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. - Thanks, as the one on the commons is deleted I speedy deleted this page as well. --WinHunter (talk) 08:32, 25 October 2008 (UTC)
