Thanks for the message. This may take a little while to explain so bear with me. But first, note that editing tables in transcluded articles is not the easiest way to make your first edits to Wikipedia!

If you go to List of law clerks of the Supreme Court of the United States and then go to edit mode (click the edit tab), you will see that each section contains text like this:

{{see also|List of law clerks of the Supreme Court of the United States (Chief Justice)}}
{{:List of law clerks of the Supreme Court of the United States (Chief Justice)}}

The first line is a template that creates the "See also..." link just below the heading, the second is Wikicode that transcludes text from another part of Wikipedia, in this case from the List of law clerks of the Supreme Court of the United States (Chief Justice) article - the stuff between the {{ }}. So in order to edit the table that is transcluded, you have to edit the transcluded article. So, to edit the Stewart stuff, seat 8, you have to edit List of law clerks of the Supreme Court of the United States (Seat 8). But that's the easy part. As I mentioned in my reply on the help desk, Wiki table code is not easy to figure out - I still can't do it after 3 years around here - but at least any changes that you make can be easily undone. When you save your edits, they will show up in that article and, because the text is transcluded, they will appear in the main List of law clerks of the Supreme Court of the United States article too.

Thanks for the follow up message. Adding the material to the article's talk page may work, but it relies on interested editors having the page on their watchlist. I am no good with tables so I would be wary of doing it myself. A better idea may be to post a message with the details at the talk page of the US Courts and Judges Wikiproject at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject United States courts and judges. – ukexpat (talk) 20:04, 5 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. If you can't type the tilde character, you should click on the signature button located above the edit window.
