Thanks for updating the article. Looks like things are getting interesting... Elefuntboy 03:47, 3 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks a lot. I tried writing it with all the English-writing skills I have but still I found so many odd grammatical constructs. Hope it didnt make you cry. The problem of being bilingual. Thanks anyway. Windspinner 05:44, 3 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
You did fine, bro. I know how you feel, by the way. When I attempt to wiki things in Spanish, I feel slightly out of my depth. =). Elefuntboy 23:59, 4 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Enquiry on Sandara Park

[edit]

Hi! I see that you have done a lot of contribution to Sandara Park, a Filipino actress of Korean descent.

I am here to enquire if you know her personal Korean name. As you see, Park is born in Korea and still returns to South Korea now and then. If you know her real Korean name (not Korean transliteration of Sandara), please tell me. Please inform me if you don't know either. I have asked Jojit fb, but I'm afraid that he is rather confused. Thanks!

Note: 산다라 (Hangul) is a mere corcortation of Sandara, which is not Korean in origin, if I'm right. A real, formal Korean name (say, Park Yong-ha) is written like this in HanguL: 박용하. 박 (Park) is the surname and 용하 is the name (yong-ha). Mr Tan 10:03, 17 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your clarification. I believe that you are right, for the name "Sandara" is probably more Korean than English in origin, because of the extra "a" in it. In English names, Sandra is often used, and Sandara is hardly seen. To break up the name San-da-ra (산 다 라) it indeed sounds like a word or name from the Korean language.

However, I must reiterate the fact that all traditional, true Korean names can also be written in Hanja, for Hangul, as you can see, Hangul is more of a phonetic script invented by King Sejong to match the pronouncation of Korean phrases that do not fit well with Hanja. Names that cannot be written in Hanja are not names of Korean origin. For example, the American politician Harry Kim (politician). It is written in Hangul as 헤리 김. 김 is a Korean surname but 헤리 is merely a cornotation of the English name, Harry. And the name Harry is not Korean in origin, and thus I conclude the Korean name of Harry either does not exist, or he does not wish to reveal it. Whatever it is, Harry can never be written in Hanja because it is not a Korean name.

There are lots of sources on the net on Sandara, especially Yahoo Korea, in which I have tried it. Well, there is nothing more I can say, if the Hanja variant really does not exist, say Kim Sa Rang as an example, because Sa-rang means Happy in Korean,, and there is no Hanja variants as such. Anyway, Thanks! Mr Tan 03:13, 18 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Apologise

[edit]

Oh, I must not forget the two sentences in the introductionary paragraph:

Her unusual three-syllabled Korean name, as she had said numerous times in interviews, came from a Korean general whose nickname is Sandara. Quite oddly, she does not know what her name means.

A nickname is not likely to be able to be written in Hanja. Do you think it is possible, just like her case as in Kim Sa Rang? Like Kim, Park's name, which I presume, can never be Hanja, yet it is Korean. As you can see, modern Korean, if it is to be written in Hanja, can never be completely written in Hanja because of phonetics, and Hangul has to be added in (although Hangul is entirely used in modern Korean in all media). Anyway, that's all I have to say. Thanks! Mr Tan 12:13, 18 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for dropping by, Mr Tan. Sorry if I didn't understand much of what you said about Hangul and Hanja. My head is just spinning today, I can't make it stay put, and I am very slow in picking things up. Sorry if I am of little help. --Windspinner 04:35, 21 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed blackout in protest of R.A.10175

[edit]

Dear Windspinner,

Greetings!

As a Filipino Wikipedian, I hope you are aware of the passage of Republic Act No. 10175, also known as the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012, which was signed into law by President Benigno Aquino III on September 14, 2012. Currently, there is a discussion on the Tambayan, the noticeboard for Philippines-related topics, about a proposed blackout of the English Wikipedia in the Philippines in order to protest the passage of RA 10175, similar to the blackout against SOPA and PIPA held earlier this year. I feel that your input on the subject will definitely help in the discussion.

Please feel free to participate in the discussion at Wikipedia talk:Tambayan Philippines#The Cybercrime Prevention Act, and I hope your input will help the Filipino Wikipedia community determine which is the best course of action against this law. Similarly, we hope to get as much input from as many Wikipedians as possible.

Thank you and maraming salamat po!

Kind regards,

Tito Pao (talk) 02:16, 3 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
