Thanks
[edit]Thank you for your contributions. Please note that when you add content, the edit is not to be marked as minor (see Help:Minor edit for more details). Within the body of an article, do not enter external links; where an external link is needed, enter it as a reference (more details at Wikipedia:External links). There's heaps to learn; keep up your good work. Schwede66 19:29, 15 September 2020 (UTC)
Wikipedia and copyright
[edit]Hello Wildman NZ, and welcome to Wikipedia. Your additions to Lindis River have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.
- You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
- Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
- We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. All other images must be made available under a free and open license that allows commercial and derivative reuse to be used on Wikipedia.
- If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
- Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps in Wikipedia:Translation#How to translate. See also Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.
It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 11:46, 21 September 2020 (UTC)
- Something else on copyright. For artwork to not be covered by copyright, it must both be a permanent installation and three-dimensional. Paintings (unless very old) or murals are thus something that you cannot upload to Commons. Schwede66 09:22, 14 July 2021 (UTC)
Disambiguation link notification for October 11
[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Methven, New Zealand, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Canterbury earthquake. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)
It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 06:33, 11 October 2020 (UTC)
Spelling
[edit]Please do not change words to American spelling ("center"). It should be obvious that we use New Zealand English for New Zealand topics. Schwede66 18:37, 13 October 2020 (UTC)
- It would also be good if you could use the correct spelling for Christchurch's port town: Lyttelton. Schwede66 10:01, 7 April 2021 (UTC)

[edit]Daily Mail reference at Kevin McCloud
[edit]Hi. Please do not use the Daily Mail as you did at Kevin McCloud. It is not a reliable source. See WP:DAILYMAIL. I have also removed the Daily Express reference, also considered "generally unreliable" at WP:RSP. Kind regards, Robby.is.on (talk) 09:44, 2 December 2020 (UTC)
Sentence case for headings
[edit]Please have a read of MOS:SECTIONCAPS. Schwede66 16:02, 8 February 2021 (UTC)
- Hello? Schwede66 00:13, 2 July 2021 (UTC)
- Is this really so hard to understand? "Notable Buildings" is wrong and it has to be "Notable buildings". Schwede66 10:39, 25 July 2021 (UTC)
Disambiguation link notification for March 27
[edit]An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Arthur's Pass National Park, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Kiwi.
(Opt-out instructions.) --DPL bot (talk) 06:20, 27 March 2021 (UTC)
"Link added"
[edit]You aren't adding links (most Wikipedians would read that as you adding a wikilink); you are adding references. Thought I'd point that out. Schwede66 01:22, 25 July 2021 (UTC)

[edit]Your draft article, Draft:Malcolm Warr
[edit]Hello, Wildman NZ. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Malcolm Warr".
In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been deleted. If you plan on working on it further and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.
Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. Liz Read! Talk! 20:42, 25 March 2022 (UTC)
Thank you for your edit at George Bennett (cyclist) regarding the 2022 season. Just a few things to note when you use the Web Citation Toolbar please check the entries before clicking add, in Cycling News articles it puts the First name as the whole name and then published as the last name. Also if possible you should try to find articles over using databases for refs. Keep up the good work! Paulpat99 (talk) 07:26, 12 July 2022 (UTC)

Reference for heritage listings
[edit]We have a citation template for those items listed by Heritage New Zealand. Very simple to use; just three fields to fill in (i.e. replace "accessdate" with the actual date you fill this out). {{NZHPT|register number|alternative name|accessdate}}
Documentation for this is at Template:NZHPT. Schwede66 03:38, 28 January 2023 (UTC)
Invitation to an in-person meetup in Mohua / Golden Bay
[edit]Thinking about your summer break? Think about joining other Wikipedians and Wikimedians in Golden Bay / Mohua! Details are on the meetup page. There's heaps of interesting stuff to work on e.g. the oldest extant waka or New Zealand's oldest ongoing legal case. Or you may spend your time taking photos and then upload them.
Golden Bay is hard to get to and the airline flying into Tākaka uses small planes, so we are holding some seats from and to Wellington and we are offering attendees a $200 travel subsidy to help with costs.
Be in touch with Schwede66 if this event interests you and you'd like to discuss logistics. Schwede66 09:14, 13 November 2023 (UTC)
