Time

The time is not now - give me a few days or longer and I might be in a better frame of mind - cheers SatuSuro 13:41, 5 January 2010 (UTC) Sorry it was bushfire fighting injury that put me in a rather strange head space - now what was the question again ? SatuSuro 06:58, 8 January 2010 (UTC)

I think it might be necssary to show bit more how the three articles are related - pity you cannot use a map or two - I also think the emphasis upon what the Derwent does to all this needs to be played up a bit - its been a damned nuisance for the last 100 years and sure it will be for the next - I would also try a bit more for some refs in the smaller of the three - I think STIP desperately needs a map SatuSuro 08:45, 8 January 2010 (UTC)

Also the disarray of Tasmanian railway articles is pathetic - there should have been a Lonnie to Hobart history beyond and after the Tasmanian Main Line Company article ... SatuSuro 08:56, 8 January 2010 (UTC)

Sorry, in WA. Should have put up a notice. Aaroncrick (talk) 11:10, 9 January 2010 (UTC)

"The Department of Infrastructure, Energy and Resources first assessed the need for a southern transport hub ten years ago ..." Can you add a specific year, as this is a bit ambiguous. Aaroncrick (talk) 00:18, 11 January 2010 (UTC)

Looks good

Hey that is probably the first of its kind - and I like the look of it - and it is correct to end at Western Junction - so it would please the purist - I would say go ahead and run with it! SatuSuro 07:19, 14 January 2010 (UTC)

Actually there a heaps of very small trivial issues which i cannot deal with in detail at the mo - but I would say for the start of an article it is an excellent one and is a long time needed fill inthe black hole of the mess - probably at a very rushed point - the need for a tassie map - and for a full list of the old stations - somewhere is needed - also the categories - I am not happy at all with - but hey I will have to get back on that - there is a mix of parent child cats and the company defunct - I thought there was a closed/defunct/disused for government lines cat - probably need to start one as well somewhere - anyways - will try to get back to you soon - otherwise it is a good start - well done! SatuSuro 13:07, 14 January 2010 (UTC)

My bad. Now I've removed the {{pagename}} in the {{BS-header}} and added back the correct template name for the Navbar parameter ({{{2}}}). You can change the title text parameter ({{{1}}}) to your preference. I think the default Route map should be fine, but you got the option. -- Sameboat - 同舟 (talk) 00:59, 15 January 2010 (UTC)

The break is cuased by the collapsible sections which their text columns are longer than the non-collapsible rows. Compare my edit you'll see that I've added the parameter tw (text column width) in 1 of the non-collapsible BS row template to override the text column lenght of collapsible sections. (the width in {{BS-header}} is added just for better collapsed result of the whole map table and is not neccessary.) You can read the instruction in wp:ROUTE#Collapsible sections for more information. As a request, please check the grammar of that project page if you have the time. Because I'm not a native EN speaker, and that project page needs better English to guide the fresh users. -- Sameboat - 同舟 (talk) 04:08, 15 January 2010 (UTC)
I usually input the tw value by trial and error. Methodologically, first be sure there's some text in the widest startCollapsible template and then preview. Then print the screen of the map then paste it into Paintbrush or Photoshop. Then use the rectangular selection tool to measure the width from the beginning of the text to the closing bracket in the widest startCollapsible row. The width and length would be displayed in the bottom status bar of the graphic software. In the case of {{Emu Bay Railway Line}}, it's 136px wide, so I put tw=150px in one of the non-collapsible row to ensure most browsers will produce the preferable result. Hope this help. :)-- Sameboat - 同舟 (talk) 12:39, 15 January 2010 (UTC)
I checked the history of your sandbox and as I thought, you were confused by (or I confused you due to) the multiple availability of the width entries in the map. Only the tw parameter of the BS# row template ({{BS}}, {{BS2}}, {{BS3}}, etc.) will take the effect. The width entry for {{BS-header}} is unable to change the collapsible section behaviour and is just there for perfectism and can be ignored. Cheer and happy editing. :) -- Sameboat - 同舟 (talk) 03:27, 16 January 2010 (UTC)

Cape gauge

Cape Gauge? - south african imperialism at its worse - i am sure it has never been known by that name here in australia - crap - it has always been narrow gauage or 3 6 - the map - i like how you have done it - good - SatuSuro 01:02, 16 January 2010 (UTC)

I have so much info about tasmanian railways you wouldnt believe - we need to start a gmail ie off wiki corrsep on this - as I can feed you stuff if youre interested - I can scan and send as emails etc SatuSuro 01:04, 16 January 2010 (UTC)

Hid the Cape gauge link in the template. Change it when consensus has met. -- Sameboat - 同舟 (talk) 03:27, 16 January 2010 (UTC)

Under User along the top line of thingoes - e-mail user - quite private not on wiki :) but checkable for abuse of, which we wont SatuSuro 03:43, 16 January 2010 (UTC)

wtf - who the hell uses Melba Line? - I do think the emu bay article should stay the same name and have maybe a redirect from melba line - and have something with good cites to show that it is used in the new name - SatuSuro 09:49, 16 January 2010 (UTC)

Hey real life grabs me by the collar before i can get into checking stuff - ok so - apologies - the new system uses melba line - I dont like it - but hey - what i suggest is separate arts -

  • (1) zeehan- emu bay railway line - showing that it was known as emu bay from x to x, now as melba line (in other words we need to work out a compromise here)
  • (2) emu bay railway about the company (it was indeed iconic as one of the few australian private railway companies that succeeded and lasted like it did - longer than either midland wa or silverton nsw),
  • (3) 1912 north mount lyell rail trip needs to be expanded on the 1912 disaster art - showing the way it went - and how it connected

as for tyops - its my name in real life :) SatuSuro 13:14, 16 January 2010 (UTC)

Mate - never defer to my atrocious pscychological disorder - I might laugh too much at my folly for having acrrued such an edit count without much thought to real life and its demands - as for the problem of rail lines and articles - they are a pain - Australian railway routes and state histories always have different emphases to the point of real annoyance - they dont fit very well. Which makes the emu bay thingo a bit of a dag and a drag - if you think emu bay company and the line can be two sep arts - thats great - we are in agreement and that is good? SatuSuro 13:44, 16 January 2010 (UTC)

Ok dont mind me if i jump in now and then - I just need a bit of time to locate my hardcopies of the refs that i cite in Railways_on_the_West_Coast_of_Tasmania as well as some others i know i have somewhere - btw the tickets of tas book is brilliant of open and close dates SatuSuro 13:55, 16 January 2010 (UTC)

Melba Line VS Emu Bay Railway

Stopping places should be out of EBR and in Melba line - yes? SatuSuro 14:59, 16 January 2010 (UTC)
Sorry - thinking about this - the stopping places in EBR not melba - most of them are non existent - they were for the steam operations - and became redundant after deiselisation and also freight to melba - also the general line management by the later EBR did not support passenger usage so there were even more taken out - also the Pieman Hydro saw more reduced - so the Melba one is better just the table of genuine (very few now) locations that are actually part of the running of the railway - ok? geeze it must belate where you are :) SatuSuro 15:11, 16 January 2010 (UTC)
read my explanation at melba - the current operation has literally no sign of many of those stoppng places - even in the 1970s the guildford location was not even recognisable as a former station - not a good idea imho :) SatuSuro 15:23, 16 January 2010 (UTC)
The ASG's and other less gutsy steam engines needed lots of water fillups on the line and that was the reason for some of the locations - there are some good watering photos but i dont think they are PD unfortunately :( SatuSuro 15:27, 16 January 2010 (UTC)
Wish we had access to some of the operational history of the latter part of the ebr - might do some digging - it might just identify which locations they still had parts of their workings - ie signalling or operatinal stopping points - the thing is the steam operation neede so much more - once they got the bigguns after the new bridges after the pieman scheme got done - it swould have been so much strealined even more so after my living in queenie in the 70's SatuSuro 15:30, 16 January 2010 (UTC)
Wow just found my Walch's Almanac for 1915 - we have enough fun in there (no joy for EBR though) for railwaystopping places for the whole of tassie - check your emails when I start canning and sending in a few days :) SatuSuro 15:41, 16 January 2010 (UTC)

Hell

Is western tasmanian railway history - just trying to make head or tail of who was doing to what and why and how in 1890-1910 is like a grand opera - and all the comings and goings - hell of lot more colour than the current bland faces in the parl house hobart - I now realise why I left the main west coast tas rail history art the way i did - there are more rabbits and holes than there are weeds on the old queenstown landing strip (aka airport) SatuSuro 03:30, 17 January 2010 (UTC)

ok 1915 walch's says:-

  • Main Line-Hobart - Hobart- Brighton Junction 16 stations
  • Main Line - Hobart to LAunceston 48 stations
  • Western Line - Launceston-Myalla
  • Derwent Valley Line - Granton - Russell
  • Oatlands line - Paratah to Oatlands
  • Apsley line - Brighton Junction to Apsley
  • Fingal line - St Marys - Conara Junction
  • North Eastern line - Launcesston to Branxholm
  • Strahan to Zeehan
  • North East Dundas
  • Railton - Staverton line
  • Mole Creek Line - Deloraine to Mole Creek
  • Bellerive to Sorell line

So I have the timetable/distances for 1915 - if you want them :) SatuSuro 09:09, 17 January 2010 (UTC)

Templates

Love em - apart from that damned cape gauge phrase :) SatuSuro 06:43, 18 January 2010 (UTC)

Cats

Railway Transport in Tasmania is the parent category - and is repeated at railway line articles - and closed railway lines - am currently removing - trust you understand what I am doing :) 07:15, 18 January 2010 (UTC)

Come clean young man - how can a railway station be a railway museum? (you need to add text why i suspect) SatuSuro 10:22, 18 January 2010 (UTC)

Ahah my copy of atkinson ( i never could get the hang of the hobart metro lines - I had actually once caught the tasman limited in prehistory :) - will look carefully while i throw the dogs to the balls (oops i think thats the other way around :) SatuSuro 10:34, 18 January 2010 (UTC)

Actually I would highly recommend your trying to get a copy of atkinson from your local library - it would solve almost every issue you could think of re tassie rail history - and even more SatuSuro 12:41, 18 January 2010 (UTC)

Thanks

Thanks for your welcome and guidance. Having been associated with both facilities for many many years so I guess my contribution might at times boarder on original researchCiffoa (talk) 12:33, 18 January 2010 (UTC)

More probably WP:COI SatuSuro 12:37, 18 January 2010 (UTC)

Yes I need to keep opinions out, just supply facts about the plant and avoiding any personal views My intention is to ensure that the technical information is correct and a sound reference. you might note that grammer and spelling are not a strong point, but I take the postion that it's better to have tried than complain and contribute nought Ciffoa (talk) 20:24, 18 January 2010 (UTC)

Heheh

There are at least 30 more that i know about - but hey with an edit history like mine who knows when i get em out for show :) SatuSuro 02:16, 23 January 2010 (UTC)

Try http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:AussieLegend he is good at that stuff - dont forget the north lyell, linda valley, mount lyell, mount owen and gormanston possible links with yout new item - wow it looks good so far - wish we had a queenie area map like the tassie one that crusoe has been using for towns - there are so many items that could be explained better by a map SatuSuro 03:11, 23 January 2010 (UTC)

If no answer in short term try orderinchaos or Crusoe8181 they appear to be on at the moment SatuSuro 03:42, 23 January 2010 (UTC)

Ok legend is doing the great work - if we can create about another 10 arts or so - we have a Mount Lyell subcategory impending in the western tasmania category - to add what is already done - wouldnt take much (thinks 19 threads started untouched unfinished whats wrong with another...) SatuSuro 03:58, 23 January 2010 (UTC)
 Done http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Mount_Lyell_Mining_and_Railway_Company - cheers SatuSuro 04:29, 23 January 2010 (UTC)

I have heaps of public domain maps of the mount lyell railway lines - but youd have to wait its in a box somewhere:) as for mt lyell and wilderness railway - btw - federal hotels aka pure tasmania aka west coast wilderness railway ....never attributed things in any of their publications that i collected from when in tas 5 years ago, 3 years and a year ago - all mysteries as to who really had any copyright if it existed or not - keep at it im off for a while :) SatuSuro 04:41, 23 January 2010 (UTC)

re: another day, another question

OK, here's the explanation of my solution 1 by 1.

  1. If that's for a standalone map template (not to be transcluded inside another infobox), apply the parameter {{{2}}} of {{BS-header}} with the template name of the map, that's for the v-d-e {{navbar}} display. If the map is transcluded by the other infobox, refer to West Coast Wilderness Railway, include your map template in the {{infobox rdt}} with the parameter {{{navbar}}}=1 to display the links.
  2. For standalone map only, apply the parameter {{{5}}} of {{BS-header}} with long enough width amount until the header text doesn't soft return when collapsed like we did in the {{Main Line}} map.
  3. I've modified the syntax of {{infobox Heritage Railway}} so you can transclude your map inside the infobox just like {{infobox rail line}}. If someone disagrees with the change, you should explain in the infobox Heritage Railway talk page to convince them it works out better to avoid the width change of the right-aligned objects which might cover some of the article text. -- Sameboat - 同舟 (talk) 06:30, 23 January 2010 (UTC)
One more note, just look carefully to the {{West Coast Wilderness Railway}}. I've used the <onlyinclude> tags to ring the map syntax which will be included in the {{infobox rdt}}. Including the {|{{railway line header}}, {{bs-header}} and |} will ruin the style. -- Sameboat - 同舟 (talk) 06:40, 23 January 2010 (UTC)

Launnie Airport

Re: User_talk:Aaroncrick/Archive_8#Launceston Airport

Has turned into a dodgy gallery. So what does busiest airports in Australia state? Cheers - Aaroncrick (talk) 22:51, 27 January 2010 (UTC)

Man, couldn't imagine a personal attack by a fellow Tasmanian :) Actually, you are completely correct; and anyway, it's been a very long time since I've edited the article. To be frank, I didn't have much of a clue back then. Also, good work with Hobart Airport and the Tasmania railways. —Aaroncrick (talk) 10:19, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
And, anyone else from Launceston you're thinking of cleaning up the article? I'd love to know ;) —Aaroncrick (talk) 10:27, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
Yep, he lives over in WA. I would have no hassle with you doing something when you find the time - as you seem very busy atm - and I could chip in and look through some Google news archives for some more history. The re-development section is out of date, though, there has been nothing around about the development being finished. I've been looking out for months - and there is nothing in Google news. —Aaroncrick (talk) 10:52, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
Like me, tell myself I'll do something then don't and move onto something else. —Aaroncrick (talk) 11:00, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
Excellent :) —Aaroncrick (talk) 10:01, 1 February 2010 (UTC)

In my language - well done on getting the rights - may it serve you well - cheers SatuSuro 04:01, 1 February 2010 (UTC)

The rights? —Aaroncrick (talk) 10:01, 1 February 2010 (UTC)

Hobart Airport

Give me a day or two real life is as funny and chatoic as the whole fawlty towers series - should have the chook back on its head by saturday (maybe sooner) SatuSuro 10:12, 1 February 2010 (UTC)
Expand a couple of the refs and it definitely qualifies for B-class. Nice work ;) —Aaroncrick (talk) 10:11, 1 February 2010 (UTC)

Tassie article for GA one day? :) Better not count my chickens before they hatch. —Aaroncrick (talk) 09:07, 2 February 2010 (UTC)

Also, curly quotes are frowned upon and I think it's in MOS somewhere. I don't really know why as I rather them to the usual block quote. —Aaroncrick (talk) 09:35, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
MOS:QUOTE - In Quotation characters. —Aaroncrick (talk) 09:53, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
"Typographic or curly style: “text”, ‘text’. Not recommended ... "The exclusive use of straight quotes and apostrophes (see preceding section) is recommended. They are easier to type in reliably, and to edit." I just came across The Mess Hall from your user page and removed them. If you see myspace refs are external links swipe them, as they aren't reliable sources. Sounds like I'm getting stuck into you here, I'm not, just trying to help - sorry if it comes across that way. Later —Aaroncrick (talk) 10:17, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
Okay, I'll try and remember this. Some editors get the grumps if you create too many sections on their TP - you'll see. Cheers —Aaroncrick (talk) 10:40, 2 February 2010 (UTC)

Abbotsfield

Hello- If you check place names register [1] you will find Abbotsfield Park listed, but no Abbotsfield at all. Unless this is out-of-date, then this and 6 others which were masquerading as suburbs of Hobart are not so. I've edited some, left the others until I was sure the info. was current. Presume you were implying Abbotsfield is a suburb by your edit?? Regards (Crusoe8181 (talk) 02:47, 3 February 2010 (UTC)).

Hobart suburbs

Doubtless on your watchlist, but I have just asked a couple of questions on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Tasmania#Hobart suburbs. Regards (Crusoe8181 (talk) 05:59, 9 February 2010 (UTC)).

WP Tourism

Exists - might be the closest - but a hotels project havent seen SatuSuro 09:52, 11 February 2010 (UTC)

Hotels is basically dead. —Aaroncrick (talk) 09:53, 11 February 2010 (UTC)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Hotels - the three of us could resurrect it in about a month of sporadic stuff SatuSuro 09:55, 11 February 2010 (UTC)

We could, but I'm not. It would still be sick. —Aaroncrick (talk) 10:00, 11 February 2010 (UTC)
Heheh - most projects are dead most of the time - some seem a bit more smelly than others - as for sick - its the mega ones that never get any assessment done that are the sick ones - they claim the world and cannot even wipe their backsides SatuSuro 11:17, 11 February 2010 (UTC)
Default tags are usually ok - ie WikiProject Hotels - adding the cat is not much point unless you know someone has a bot that wants it - if no one wants it /specifies it - best leave it to default SatuSuro 13:47, 11 February 2010 (UTC)

Hahaha

Keep em guessing is what I say - for almost a month I thought a collaborator on a project was whatever, eventually via off wiki conversation found my guessing was totally wrong - however I am always very very suspicious of users who redirect their user page to the talk page - they obviously have something to hide :) SatuSuro 12:24, 17 February 2010 (UTC) Gawd I didnt mean you do that :( SatuSuro 12:48, 17 February 2010 (UTC)
