Welcome to the Birthday Committee

Welcome, WheresTristan/Archive 1, to the Wikipedia Birthday Committee! You have met all of the membership requirements. Any concerns should be directed to Steveo2. See the Birthday Committee Project Page to see our userbox and the Birthday Message Templates. Go to the bulletin board to see any new announcements concerning the committee. Remember, Be Bold!. Armbrust, B.Ed. Let's talkabout my edits? 23:53, 1 March 2012 (UTC) [reply]
Great! I am glad to be a part of the community. I've already wished some people birthdays! WheresTristan (talk) 00:10, 2 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Just three notes. First, there is a custom to not congratulate to users who are inactive over long time, preferably one year. Second, if you congratulate a user for adminship/bureaucratship anniversary, than you should check if the user is still an admin/bureaucrat before awarding. And third, new sections at talk pages go to the bottom, not to the top. Regards, Armbrust, B.Ed. Let's talkabout my edits? 12:12, 2 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, sorry about that. Guess you learn something new every day. Thanks for notifying me of that. Also, how did you get that message page? The one with the Whisperback info.  :)
WheresTristan (talk) 19:51, 2 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
If you mean User talk:Armbrust/Editnotice, than you can also create one at User talk:WheresTristan/Editnotice, with the use of {{Editnotice}}. The documentation can be found there: {{Editnotice/doc}}. Armbrust, B.Ed. Let's talkabout my edits? 20:27, 2 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm... I think I may have set it up wrong. Whenever I click to make a "New Section" on my Talk page, it shows the correct message(s) but everything seems offset-ted. Could you please help me with what is going wrong? :) WheresTristan (talk) 20:27, 3 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Corrected. Armbrust, B.Ed. Let's talkabout my edits? 20:44, 3 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much! I really appreciate it! WheresTristan (talk) 20:47, 3 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I also see, that you're a member of the Welcoming Committee. Please note, that vandals and users without edits shouldn't be welcomed. Armbrust, B.Ed. Let's talkabout my edits? 20:48, 3 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the info :). I do not "welcome" vandals, there is a message in Twinkle specifically for potential problem users. Oh, I did not know not to welcome people without edits, thank you for actually helping me. You have improved me a lot on Wikipedia as a matter of fact! :D WheresTristan (talk) 20:51, 3 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

As far I know the reason behind no welcoming users without edits is, that most of the welcome templates begin with (or at least contain) "Thank you for your contributions". But without edits there are no contributions. Armbrust, B.Ed. Let's talkabout my edits? 20:56, 3 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. I am currently reading more up on the rollback feature to make sure I do not make a dumb mistake. WheresTristan (talk) 20:58, 3 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback Testing

Can someone please help me learn how to use my Rollback feature correctly inside my Sandbox? I am currently using Twinkle as well. WheresTristan (talk) 22:09, 3 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Messages here, but I'll ask here too. Are you asking another editor to make edits in you sandbox so you can revert them? I'll be happy to help you if that's what you're trying to do. Nolelover Talk·Contribs 00:17, 4 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that is exactly what I would like. Thanks! :) WheresTristan (talk) 00:24, 4 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm...looks like someone has been messing with your sandbox... Nolelover Talk·Contribs 00:29, 4 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Ha, gotcha! Except... there are three rollback choices that I can choose from. [rollback (AGF)] [rollback] and [rollback (VANDAL)]. I clicked the last one, what are the differences? WheresTristan (talk) 00:32, 4 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Rollback (vandal) is an immediate rollback that gives an automatic edit summary (Reverted # edits by VANDAL (talk) identified as vandalism to last revision by EDITOR). The edit summary will always follow that style, so don't use this button unless it is actually vandalism. I'm not quite sure what the edit summary for AGF is, but the gist of it is that you can use that button when, say, a newer editor makes a bad edit that isn't vandalism. They are still good-faith editors, but the edit itself is clearly bad (maybe they added a header to the lead section, or something like that). The middle button is just when you need to rollback a series of edits. Remember that you almost always need to use an edit summary for AGF and normal rollback. I think when you click one of those two a dialogue box will pop up asking you for an additional edit summary, so you should always fill that in. In fact, are you up for one more test? I'll make two edits to your sandbox - this time revert with the AGF button. Nolelover Talk·Contribs 00:40, 4 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Ahh, nevermind, I see you got it. Anything else I can help with while I'm here? Nolelover Talk·Contribs 00:42, 4 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Please not that the rollback feature of Twinkle isn't the same as the userright Rollback, and thus you shouldn't use {{User wikipedia/rollback}}. If you demonstrated, that you can distinguish what is and what isn't vandalism, than you can request it at WP:PERM/R. Regards, Armbrust, B.Ed. Let's talkabout my edits? 00:53, 4 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ah... I see, I am going to put in a request. WheresTristan (talk) 01:01, 4 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I hope you don't mind, but I must say that you probably won't get the rollback tool if you ask right now. I would suggest that you revert about 50-100 instances of vandalism over a few days just to show that you know what vandalism is and isn't. Nolelover Talk·Contribs 01:12, 4 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I will definitely take your advice. :) WheresTristan (talk) 01:15, 4 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
sorry about delay in answering. my advice is as above. Good luck. Cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 04:14, 7 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, thanks, I have been working hard to fight vandalism. WheresTristan (talk) 01:27, 8 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Help Me!

Can someone please help me set up an archiving system for my talk page?

Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You could also click on the signature button or located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when they said it. Thank you.
I set up ClueBot for 90 days. A full explanation is at User:ClueBot III and a general "FAQ" is at Help:Archiving a talk page. Regards, mabdul 12:43, 22 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much! I read the documentation but I have a question, when will it start archiving stuff? WheresTristan (talk) 18:54, 22 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
At the moment the archivebot is configurated so that it archives after 90 days and leaving a minimum of 2 threads here

|minkeepthreads=2 |age=2160

That are the corresponding "code fragments" at the top of this page. Feel free to change it as you want. As I already said at User:ClueBot III is (if you scroll down a bit) a complete explanation which parameters cvan be manipulated and what they mean! mabdul 19:50, 22 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
90 days seems good to me, I really appreciate it! WheresTristan (talk) 19:55, 22 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Oh I forgot: 90 days * 24 hours = 2160 hours ;) (Just if you wonder why 90 days and the 2160 fit together) mabdul 20:02, 22 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Haha, it's all good, I kinda figured it out. :) 71.63.67.167 (talk) 20:48, 22 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Help Me!

Please help me, my archiving system is going crazy? Anyone know what happened? Someone else installed it for me :)

Could you please be specific as to your problem? What exactly is it that you want? (Please notify me with a talkback or whisperback when you reply)  Hazard-SJ  ㋡  02:08, 25 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, thanks for responding so quickly! My archive box is stretched out extremely long with random articles of Wikipedia, it does not make any sense. I would just like my archiving system to work, fine. Do you understand now? Thanks a lot! WheresTristan (talk) 12:58, 25 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
What's going crazy? I mean here are simply no threads at the moment which the bot can archive, because all threads are newer than the configured 90 days (as mentioned above). mabdul 03:23, 26 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I somewhat fixed it, before you came, it was ridiculous. I made those changes myself. I think it should be good now :) WheresTristan (talk) 03:27, 26 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
WheresTristan, your "fix" actually removed the entire auto-archiving process. This page won't be auto-archives as a result. I could set up the archiving for you, but I'd need to know two things first:
  1. How long should the thread be inactive before being archived?
  2. What format do you want for the page archives? (What do you want the archive page to be called?)
Hope to hear from you soon.  Hazard-SJ  ㋡  05:23, 26 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I would really appreciate it if you set it up for me! As for the questions,
  1. Is there like a "default" that a majority of people use? I wouldn't want the number to be too low because then I would have way to many archives. But I would also would not the number to be too big, my talk page would get extremely large. Any suggestions?
  2. I think it could have a pattern of, Archive 1, Archive 2, ...
See ya soon WheresTristan (talk) 14:08, 26 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

People usually set the length of inactivity based on how active they are and how often they get new posts on their user talk page. Also, some additional settings include the minimum number of threads to archive and the minimum number of threads to leave unarchived, though they are less important.  Hazard-SJ  ㋡  17:32, 26 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Would you be able to set it at once a month? Also what is the point of archiving? Is it against the rules to delete contents of your own talk page? WheresTristan (talk) 18:31, 26 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it can be set at once per month. Also, archiving is so you don't have an excessively long user talk page, and you can still access all the threads easily. You can delete comments, generally, but it would be hard to find something you might be looking for. It is common practise to archive.  Hazard-SJ  ㋡  19:03, 26 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
That would be great! WheresTristan (talk) 20:42, 26 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
 Done.  Hazard-SJ  ㋡  04:54, 31 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The Fire Fighters Charity

Hello Tristan,

I amended the page for our Charity as it was out-of-date and factually incorrect, but unfortunately the amendments have been deleted. Please can you let me know how to correct the page without it being undone.

Thanks ever so much, Loretta — Preceding unsigned comment added by Spridgeon1 (talkcontribs) 08:51, 26 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I undid the deletion. I do recommend that you add internal links to the articles as well as references. In any case that you would like to undo an edit, click "View History" in the top right, this will show all edits that have been made on that article. You can then look through them and undo the one that you like. If you have any more questions, feel free to let me know! Also remember to sign your posts by adding ~~~~ to the end of your posts. WheresTristan (talk) 14:17, 26 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Your rollback request

Hello WheresTristan, I have granted rollback rights to your account in accordance with your request. Please be aware that rollback should be used to revert vandalism/spam/blatantly unconstructive edits, and that using it to revert anything else (such as by revert-warring or reverting edits you disagree with) can lead to it being removed from your account...sometimes without any warning, depending on the admin who becomes aware of any misuse. If you think an edit should require a reason for reverting, then don't use rollback and instead, use a manual edit summary. For practice, you may wish to see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback. Good luck. Acalamari 08:41, 2 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much! I will be extremely responsible with my new rights :) WheresTristan Let's talk·Contribs 14:55, 2 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Congratz! You might find, like me, that it isn't as great as it looks (it's useful, to be sure, but it's also really annoying when you accidentally rollback someone from your watchlist) but I'm glad you got it. :) Nolelover Talk·Contribs 15:19, 2 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Huggle Config Help

I have recently received Rollback rights and would like to use Huggle. I downloaded the latest version (2.1.19) and tried logging in, however I received this message: "Huggle is not enabled for your account, please check user configuration page." Can someone please help me set this up? Thanks! :)

You need to have http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:WheresTristan/huggle.css created and add the text "enable:true" to it if you have not used Huggle before. That's the only thing I can think of that would currently prevent you from being able to use it. OohBunnies! Leave a message :) 22:22, 3 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much, I read up on it and accidentally typed "enable true" instead of "enable:true". I appreciate it! WheresTristan Let's talk·Contribs 22:34, 3 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

That time, I was rearranging the characters in alphabetical order even if they start with King or Queen. Outside of that, not all the characters from the Oz books are listed with most of them being red-linked. I already started a section for A-B-Sea Serpent while the sections for Comfortable Camel and Doubtful Dromedary need more info about them. Rtkat3 (talk) 4:43, April 3 2012 (UTC)

It's all good, just a friendly reminder about the edit summary; and how important it is :) WheresTristan Let's talk·Contribs 21:02, 3 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikiproject AFC

Hi, and welcome to WikiProject Articles for creation! We are a group of editors who work together on the Articles for creation and Files for upload pages.

A few tips that you might find helpful:

  • Please take time to fully read the reviewers' instructions before reviewing submissions.
  • The reviewers' talk page is the best place to ask for help or advice. You might like to watchlist this page, and you are encouraged to take part in any discussion that comes up.
  • Article submissions that need reviewing can be found in Category:Pending AfC submissions and there is also a useful list which is maintained by a bot.
  • You might wish to add {{AFC status}} to your userpage, which will alert you to the number of open submissions. There is also a project userbox. If you haven't done so already, please consider adding your name to the list of participants.
  • Several of our members monitor the #wikipedia-en-help connect IRC channel, and you are welcome to join in to ask Wikipedia-related questions.
  • The IRC channel #wikipedia-en-afc connect is used occasionally for internal discussion regarding the Articles for Creation process, and also serves as a recent changes feed, displaying all edits made in the Articles for Creation namespace.
  • The help desk is the place where new editors can ask questions about their submissions. You are welcome to help in answering their questions.

Once again, welcome to the project. Pol430 talk to me 00:18, 6 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome :) Pol430 talk to me 00:23, 6 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Tristan. Thank you for your reviews at AFC - they are very good in general. Regarding Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Jotae, however, I think you could have tagged it for speedy deletion under CSD G3 as vandalism (which I've done already, lol) – there is absolutely no proof at all that he was nominated for an "award" and lost to Justin Bieber, or that he died yesterday(?) Or you could have declined as a BLP issue and blank the submission. Otherwise, your reviews have been excellent! Please also join us at our IRC channel: #wikipedia-en-afc connect Bmusician 00:32, 6 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I am trying to do my best! I was a little confused when I saw this Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Jotae. I'm sorry I forgot all about CSD because I was following these Reviewing instructions to the dot so I wouldn't mess up. What does BLP stand for, and when should I use the blank page checkmark? Thanks! P.S. Did I make a good review accepting Equal Education, I also rated it C-Class, should it have been a Start class? WheresTristan Let's talk·Contribs 00:36, 6 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
WP:BLP stands for "biographies of living people". Blank page checkmark is usable when the page's content violates Wikipedia's guidelines - it is checked by default if you decline because of BLP issue or copyright violation. Bmusician 00:39, 6 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Oh ok, I just had a perfect chance to try it out here. I also marked it as a G3 CSD. Thanks for being helpful. WheresTristan Let's talk·Contribs 00:42, 6 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Bmusician's adoption school!

Welcome!

You are now a student at my adoption school. Your official adoption page is located at User:Bmusician/Adoption/WheresTristan.

In your first assignment (which I have already assigned to you) you will learn about the five pillars. Read the lesson carefully. You are required to answer three questions about the lesson at the very end. You must answer two of them correctly in order to move on to the next assignment.

After you've completed three assignments, you will then take an examination. If you pass the examination, you are permitted to either continue to study at the adoption school, or "graduate" from the school. (We'll talk about that when that time actually comes.) If you fail, however, you must stay at the adoption school until you finally pass an exam. Please note that you may leave the school at any time without graduating, but that means that you won't be awarded the "special barnstar" I give to my graduate students.

That's it; again I welcome you to my adoption school! Please me a message on my talk page if you have any questions regarding the school. Bmusician 09:23, 6 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Football venues in Taiwan

Hi Tristan, just wanted to let you know that this page looked like an attempt to create a template rather than an article. We don't get many of these requests, but unlike articles there is not usually a requirement for reliable sources. This is because template usually just repeat or re-categories information already on WIkipedia. I have also has to amend some of you recent declines. I have left a note on Bmusican's talk page to explain why. Don't worry, you are doing well at the moment and it takes time to get used to all Wikipedia's polices and guidelines. Best Pol430 talk to me 13:06, 6 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for letting me know, I'm sorry about that; I didn't realize that they could create templates as well. WheresTristan Let's talk·Contribs 12:38, 7 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

An award for you!

Award of First Success
The questions you've answered on User:Bmusician/Adoption/WheresTristan were fabulous. Keep up the great work, my friend! (On an unrelated note, the school has changed a little, so all adoptees must complete all required assignments before taking the final exam and graduating (probably about six or seven) but I'll make an exception to that rule for you, because you are my first adoptee, and a great one! You may finish only three assignments before taking the final exam.) Bmusician 00:31, 8 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Awesome, thanks so much! I have copied the award here WheresTristan 00:35, 8 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thaks for creating SOML; question

You changed "School of MAGTF Logistics at the U.S. Marine Corps University" to "School of MAGTF Logistics" with the comment "This is allowed to be a red link, since it is mentioned in the previous article". I don't quite understand that, and I'd like to so I can get it right in future.

The term is mentioned and briefly described at Marine Corps University#Schools, Programs and Courses, and while that also includes a red link, hoping someone will create the article, that's a pretty indefinite future ambition, and it seemed more useful to point people to what already exists. How are people supposed to find that information now?

Thanks. 71.41.210.146 (talk) 17:40, 9 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I definitely see where you are coming from; I may be wrong. Please check out this page and let me know what you got out of it. WheresTristan 19:00, 9 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
What I get out of it is that it's okay to have the red link, especially if it's also included in an article, but in that case the disambig line should also have a blue link. So I'll go and do that. Thanks! 71.41.210.146 (talk) 06:11, 11 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Article Rejection Help

hello,
You reviewed an article of mine on April 9th, 2012 and I could really use some help with getting started. I know once I get the hang of the syntax I will be able to be a more effect member.

Thanks!

It's easy to "get started" - sadly, your article does not describe your subject from a neutral point of view and is written like an advertisement. I advise you please re-write your article from a neutral point of view - it has nothing to do with syntax. Bmusician 08:14, 10 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The Exceptional Newcomer's Barnstar!
You are very lucky to get adopted by Sir Bmusician because when I wanted to get adopted by him, he said no to me (Just kidding). He is one of the best editors that I have ever known and also a good friend as well as tireless helper and contributor. I m watching your work since I saw that you were adopted by him and you are just amazing. The credit goes to superb techniques of Sir Bmusician as well as your dedication. You are the best newcomer I have ever seen till date as you have been here for only 1 and half month almost and have learned almost everything! That is indeed a great thing to do as when I was new, I almost violated all rules including vandalizing, misusing WP:CSD tags, Copyright issues, and many more (I m not kidding this time). Keep up the good work and all the best for your exam. You deserve this award! :) Yasht101 14:37, 12 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Woah, thanks!!! This was really nice of you, these types of messages always give me more motivation to do even better! You're right about Bmusician, he is a really good adopter. Your AfC declines

Hi Tristan. I've noticed you have done a lot of AfC declines recently on unsourced submissions. You have declined almost all of them for failing the verifiability policy. It's true that an unsourced submission does fail the verifiability policy, but please consider declining those submissions that do not make a clear and unambiguous claim of notability, on notability grounds. See the extract below from the reviewing instructions:

The principle of notability applies to the subject of the article. The principle of verifiability applies to the content of the article. The most basic standard for inclusion in Wikipedia is notability. It is important for reviewers to determine a subject's notability at the earliest opportunity, to avoid new editors having submissions declined for other reasons, only to find out later, that the subject of their submission cannot be accepted because it does not meet the notability guidelines. Many problems found in submissions can be fixed through good editing; however, no amount of good editing can make an inherently non-notable subject, notable! If what is written in the submission meets the notability guidelines, but the submission lacks references to evidence this, then the underlying issue is verifiability and the submission should be declined for that reason. Notability is a higher standard than importance or significance, which are terms used in respect of candidates for speedy deletion.

If you are still unsure just ask for more help at my talk page. Best. Pol430 talk to me 19:06, 12 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

FFU

I reverted your edits at FFU: Both are copyrighted and for logos you don't need any further information; simply upload them correctly. (choose the old upload wizard and choose logo of an organization... mabdul 19:26, 12 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I appreciate you telling me, so logos should not be uploaded to the Commons, but Wikipedia instead? Also, logos can be uploaded no matter what? WheresTristan 20:30, 12 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes and no.
enwp stores copyrighted material
free material goes to commons

logos are always copyrighted (and copyrighted stuff needs to be included in an existing article (so not an AFC submission or so) and should not bigger than 400X400)
Please read WP:NFC.
some logos can be uploaded at commons because they are not ineligible; read Commons:Threshold of originality.
Regards, mabdul 20:43, 12 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Oh by the way: the uploaded files at WP:FFU should get a {{WPAFC}} at the talkpage. (also the at commons uploaded files should get a talkpage at enwp with that banner). Regards, mabdul 12:09, 25 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe it helps you calm your nerves: I made the same mistakes and were informed by (the now retired) Armbrust. mabdul 21:56, 26 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, wait! I can't believe he retired, I miss him already. Also, this is a little off topic; I requested WP:FMV rights, who reviews the requests and grants permissions? WheresTristan 22:04, 26 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Heh, I saw your request, but Mlpearc was faster with his nao ;-) Every admin/'crat can do handle these request, but the rights are normally only granted by a few regular stalker - simply check the history of the permission page. mabdul 22:09, 26 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Userbox request x 2

Hi WheresTristan, I have two userbox requests!

One saying: This user has a security clearance.

(with an appopriate free image of some sort)

And one saying: This user gets paid for editing a wiki, just not this one.

(with an appropriate free image of some sort)

Many thanks! --Demiurge1000 (talk) 19:06, 15 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, do you have any color choice requests? WheresTristan 20:24, 15 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
No, whatever color you think looks best with your choice of image is fine. Incidentally, it's also fine to make them as large as necessary, since they will go under my "mess of userboxes" section which is more than a little unstructured :) --Demiurge1000 (talk) 20:28, 15 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry it is taking a little long, I am a little busy with school. For the second request, would you like the image related to a Wiki or Money?
This is what I have so far for the second one: User:WheresTristan/UBX Gallery/paidwiki WheresTristan 19:01, 16 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
No hurry, take as long as necessary. The one you've done already looks fine. You could also maybe experiment with super-imposing a $ (dollar) sign over the existing image or over the wiki globe image thing (not possible with wiki-markup alone) to see if that works well or not. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 19:29, 16 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, I will mess around with some stuff in Photoshop. As for the first request, what icon would be suitable for a security clearance? A padlock? WheresTristan 19:45, 16 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yep, that would do it. Or see if there are any good images of part of a barbed wire fence or something like that (although most high security places use more razor wire than barbed wire these days). --Demiurge1000 (talk) 19:50, 16 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I am really sorry, I could not find any good icons of barbed wire. What do you think of this WheresTristan 20:54, 16 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I like it! At this scale, maybe filling in the entire padlock in black, would make it more easily understandable? --Demiurge1000 (talk) 21:09, 16 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Really sorry! My photoshop is not working correctly, is the glossy padlock ok? WheresTristan 19:19, 17 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi WheresTristan

I just wanted to say hi and thanks for your insights on my Data Science article. This is the first time i have ever attempted submitting something to Wikipedia and appreciate your quick response. The editorial side of Wikipedia is pretty amazing and I am glad the process of submitting an article is so rigorous.

Redirects from other capitalization

Hi, I saw you decline the redirect from Saving grace to Saving Grace. Maybe you just missed the different capitalization, but if not: Articles whose titles only differ by capitalization can exist, and redirects are sometimes useful (usually for external links to a Wikipedia article; Wikipedia's own search box is not case sensitive). There's even {{r from other capitalization}} for such cases. Since a lower-case "grace" seemed a reasonable term, I've created the redirect. Yours, Huon (talk) 20:13, 20 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use File:Dalius Cekuolis Portrait.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Dalius Cekuolis Portrait.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 19:53, 27 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It's all good! I noticed it wasn't written correctly, but I remember someone "notable" (forget who) told me that it is ok to accept these articles because they can be changed through good editing. WheresTristan 20:42, 2 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
bad written can (but should be fixed before accepting) after accepting, but without sources? On what basis did you accept this draft? If has nothing in what makes it unique! It's just another web store (and recently launched) and moreover doesn't cite any reliable third party reference (with in-deepth coverage)... mabdul 20:49, 2 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Completely agree. Glad to get that bad "advice" out of my head. WheresTristan 20:51, 2 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Oh by the way, check your twinkle preferences and add the CSD/PROD log. It's really useful for nonadmins (and easier for admins) for tracking your CSD behavior. (It's optional but as I said: useful) mabdul 00:53, 5 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Oh thanks! I checked it in my preferences, but I didn't see anything new in twinkle, what am I looking for? WheresTristan 01:24, 5 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

At Wikipedia:Twinkle/Preferences there are two checkboxes:
"Keep a log in userspace of all pages you tag for PROD"
and
"Keep a log in userspace of all CSD nominations"
Simply turn on the checkbox and TW adds new stuff logged on these two pages. Regards, mabdul 11:33, 6 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! WheresTristan 15:21, 6 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite blocks

The advice you gave to User:Джон Дейкэ is not quite correct. His "friend" is indefinitely blocked. That doesn't mean blocked forever, though a lot of the time the account has no chance of ever being unblocked. It just means that the block doesn't have a time period set on it. Indefinite blocks can be very short, like in the case of many blocks for legal threats, which can be lifted as soon as the threat is taken back. Users whose accounts have been indefinitely blocked can appeal just like any other user. Just an FYI; I see you're relatively new and that's just some wiki-arcana, in case it ever comes up again. Your user talk page notice is nifty. Danger! High voltage! 23:18, 4 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for notifying me of this, I really appreciate it! I love learning how to fix my mistakes. Haha, thanks for noticing my talk page notice. Took a little bit to make it. WheresTristan 00:13, 5 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Articles for Creation Appeal

Articles for Creation is backlogged and needs YOUR help!

Articles for Creation is desperately in need of reviewers! We are looking for urgent help, from experienced editors and administrators alike, to help us clear a record backlog of pending submissions. There is currently a significant backlog of 1026 submissions waiting to be reviewed. These submissions are generally from new editors who have never edited Wikipedia before. A prompt, constructive review of submissions could significantly editor retention.

Do you have what it takes?
  1. Are you familiar with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines?
  2. Do you know what Wikipedia is and is not?
  3. Do you have a working knowledge of the Manual of Style, particularly article naming conventions?
  4. Are you (at least) autoconfirmed?
  5. Can you review submissions based on their individual merits?

If the answer to these questions is yes, then please read the reviewing instructions and donate a little of your time to helping tackle the backlog.

Click here to review to a random submissionArticle selected by erwin85's random article script on toolserver.

We would greatly appreciate your help. Currently, only a small handful of users are reviewing articles. Any help, even if it's just 1 or 2 reviews, would be extremely beneficial.

userbox beg

greetings. i saw that you offer to make user boxes? you know what would be great? a user box that said: "if you are going to go public, use an ipo and not a reverse merger!" with a picture of wall street and a red background. can you do it?Happy monsoon day (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 22:41, 1 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Of course! Honestly, I do not understand it, but I will surely make it for you. WheresTristan 00:51, 2 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
that is really great, thank you!! let me try to explain the concept. usually a company, like in the us, goes to the market to raise capital or whatever using an initial public offering. its complicated & expensive & invovles alot of steps &c. &c. ok so theres another way if your outside the us, and its where you just take over a shell company.
'shell' in this case means like a dormantcompany or whatever.you change the ticker and just use that corporate structure without having to jump through all those regulatory hoops.cheaper.less scrutiny.and if your chinese able to hide under the communist dictatorship or friends with some corrupt cadres (ie cadres you split the profits w/) then you can do it and come and stael money from american investors.
thats the story behind this userbox. it will be unique!!
ps how did you do the thing where you left a box on my page?also how did you make all the boxes above this text screen appear when i edit your talk pge?
pps um and can you point me to where i can make my username colorful too?Happy monsoon day (talk)
Thanks for the background on your userbox! I have worked on it and came up with this. To answer your first question, I recommend that you install Twinkle to help you edit and make it easier. To do this, go to your preferences at the top right, click "Gadgets", and under "Browsing" check "Twinkle" then click save at the bottom. Now if it is installed properly, on certain pages you should see a tab at the top that says "TW" (it is near the edit tab). Click "TB" to make the Talkback box you were talking about. For your second question, it is a little complicated. You can make your own notice at your page, User talk:Happy monsoon day/Editnotice. You can find some help at WP:EDN. To edit your signature, go to Special:Preferences and it will be about a little down. If you need anymore help, feel free to ask! Also, is the userbox ok? What changes would you like? WheresTristan 13:51, 4 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
wow its excellent! you did that for free, too, amazing man. ill add it to my userpage right away giving it pride of place which is at the very top.its hilariously abstruse too but my masters thesis relates to this issue and the connected tendrils of this question has deep implications for the prc's (i mean communist china) relations with the rest of the world. i am going to check out the edn and edit notice stuff now! its ok, i think its manual. i just mean adding "talkback" boxes to another person's page. you have to do that manually ive discovered. it's ok. i prefer to do three tildes for esthetic reasons. i think modern society puts too much emphasis on time. is that not allowed?Happy monsoon day

A tag has been placed on File:Tatebritain-300px.jpg, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:

No relevant incoming links

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Help me!

WheresTristan 01:22, 9 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I think I know what you mean--if I understand correctly, you'd like to be able to give it two numbers, and have them both differently display. I made a change (you can check the diff) to do that, you had all the squirrely braces correct, but had "1" for both numbers, whereas you want to use 1 for the first numbers "passed along", 2 for the second, and so on. If you check my sandbox in the next few minutes you'll see how to get those numbers to display. Is that what you were hoping for? --j⚛e deckertalk 02:46, 9 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Wait, I don't have that right. Hold on.  :) --j⚛e deckertalk 02:51, 9 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I was a little bit confused. And I apologize for that. My rewrite is at User:Joe Decker/testbox, and you can see it work and get the plural/singular right at User:Joe Decker/sandbox. Is that what you were hoping for? The template parameter syntax is a little weird, but I think the way I wrote that might be a bit easier to understand? Or am I missing some useful functionality? --j⚛e deckertalk 03:19, 9 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much! Exactly what I needed WheresTristan 17:45, 11 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Userbox Request

I have a number of userboxes on my userpage, so many in fact that I have developed seven drop-down menus like the one seen right to house them all. However, I have been having some trouble finding decent color combinations and pictures for a large number of the ones in my politics category. As you can see, a number of them are non-standard or awkaward like my workfare and right to bear arms userboxes. More so, I do not even have userboxes for some things in that category, rather, just a line of text. Thus, I was wondering if you could please help me to better develop my userboxes in this category. Thanks! --~ScholarlyBreeze~ 23:52, 12 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I think I actually figured it out and finally have all of my userboxes completed and sorted out. However, I would still like to thank you for your userbox contributions - I am using a few of them! --~ScholarlyBreeze~ 05:39, 13 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Awesome! I see that you used my Catholic userbox. I think that's awesome because I'm catholic too. If you ever need any more help with anything, feel free to holla WheresTristan 18:45, 13 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Articles for Creation is desperately short of reviewers! We are looking for urgent help, from experienced editors, in reviewing submissions in the pending submissions queue. Currently there are 1026 submissions waiting to be reviewed and many help requests at our Help Desk.

Do you have what it takes?
  1. Are you familiar with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines?
  2. Do you know what Wikipedia is and is not?
  3. Do you have a working knowledge of the Manual of Style, particularly article naming conventions?
  4. Can you review submissions based on their individual merits?

If the answer to these questions is yes, then please read the reviewing instructions and donate a little of your time to helping tackle the backlog. You might wish to add {{AFC status}} or {{AfC Defcon}} to your userpage, which will alert you to the number of open submissions.

PS: we have a great AFC helper script at WP:AFCH!

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
