User talk:What if I Use This One?

[edit]Although embedded WP:COMMENTs are wonderful things in program source code, on Wikipedia we normally don't use them the way you did. Their usual use is for warning future editors about changes that shouldn't be done, even though the changes might seem to make sense. (For example, where a typical conversion factor, like 8 bits to the byte, doesn't apply because of a different encoding method.) They work fine for that because they'll presumably be seen by the future editor when and if the subject text is in the edit window.
But if you want to explain an edit you've done, that's what edit summaries are for. (We don't want the wikitext cluttered up with explanations of edits, or concerns about existing text.)
And if you want to start a discussion because you don't like the existing phrasing in an article, or pretty much anything else about article content.. that's what article talk pages are for. A new section there is far more likely to attract discussion than an embedded comment. And that's what we want.
I hope this helps you understand why I removed your embedded comment. (I still don't understand your point. Perhaps you could explain it in greater length at the article talk page.) Jeh (talk) 11:42, 4 July 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks, Jeh. And I've added a little something to my talk over there. Happy Independence Day! What if I Use This One? (talk) 12:28, 4 July 2016 (UTC)
