Orphaned non-free media (Image:PortraitRWest1.jpeg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:PortraitRWest1.jpeg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:15, 29 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Bernard Schweizer

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Bernard Schweizer, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached.

Please see Wikipedia:Notability (academics) and Wikipedia:Autobiography.

Travel literature

[edit]

You made a fantastic contribution to travel literature, thanks so much I learned a lot - historiography of the field is at the stage sort of hard to find so this is really helpful. I have been reading travel literature scholarship (in conjunction with travel books) sort of as a hobby for a couple years and find in fascinating. I had a couple questions, feel free to answer some or none as your time allows.

  1. I'm looking for new books on travel scholarship do you have any recommendations for a recent bibliography, beyond the works mentioned in the WP article?
  2. Do you think Tourists with Typewriters is notable enough to mention in that section you wrote?
  3. I've long wanted to create a Wikipedia list of notable travel literature, similar to how List of important operas is constructed. To that end I'm looking for "best of" lists compiled by experts. A start can be found here User:Stbalbach/List_of_important_exploration_and_travel_literature -- but I only found two sources which is not enough. If you have any suggestions for where to find lists of "canonical" travel literature, that would be helpful (I realize "canonical" is problematic in itself, but for Wikipedia purposes of "notability").

Thanks! Stephen Balbach

Stephen, I would recommend you contact Tim Youngs at Nottingham Trent or check out his books on travel writing criticism--they have fairly solid bibliographies (feel free to Google-Book the bibliographies). In general, the rule of thumb is to go to the latest book of travel writing criticism and turn to the bibliography. There you should see the updated list of works in this bourgeoning field. Yes, I do think Tourists With Typewriters is one of the best books available on the subject of travel writing criticism. It is indeed notable. As for prominent travel writers, the WP entry on travel literature is a good start. Your best bet, however, would be the Encyclopedia of Travel and Exploration edited by Jennifer Speake. Take care,

Female epic

[edit]

Hi, Westiana. I've edited the article you created on the female epic, so I wonder if you could take a look at it. It's kind of out of my field, but I thought it was interesting. What it needs now is more incoming links, so people will see it. Thanks. -- Margin1522 (talk) 08:04, 18 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The article Female epic has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Existence of the concept of a "female epic" as distinct from other epic poetry is only supported by one literary critic cited in the article. A quick google search returns no other significant sources for this as a concept.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. - car chasm (talk) 23:08, 1 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
