Please stop what you are doing. As I have noted on the talk page (Talk:Rankine scale), an official publication from the National Institute of Standards and Technology at U.S. Department of Commerce [1] lists the unit as a 'degree Rankine'. Since you or another user has provided references that sometimes the unit is referred to as "Rankine" rather than "degree Rankine", I have added the following text to the article: "By analogy with Kelvin, some authors call the unit Rankine, omitting the degree symbol." (To say as a matter of fact that "degree Rankine" is incorrect when a reference says otherwise would constitute original research, which is out of scope of Wikipedia. And in any case, you can't change an article to say an exact opposite of what the reference says.)

If you have evidence that a majority of recent publications use "Rankine" rather than "degree Rankine", please discuss the change in the article talk page. - Mike Rosoft (talk) 17:51, 21 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
