Your username
[edit]Welcome to Wikipedia. I saw that you edited or created Richard Gisser, and I noticed that your username, "Vienna Institute of Demography - OEAW", may not comply with our username policy. Please note that you may not use a username that represents the name of a company, group, organization, product, or website. Examples of usernames that are not allowed include "XYZ Company", "MyWidgetsUSA.com", and "Trammel Museum of Art". However, you are invited to use a username that contains such a name if it identifies you personally, such as "Mark at WidgetsUSA", "Jack Smith at the XY Foundation", and "WidgetFan87".
Please also note that Wikipedia does not allow accounts to be shared by multiple people, and that you may not advocate for or promote any company, group, organization, product, or website, regardless of your username. Moreover, I recommend that you read our conflict of interest guideline. If you are a single individual and are willing to contribute to Wikipedia in an unbiased manner, please create a new account or request a change of username, by completing this form, that complies with our username policy. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. Thank you. 331dot (talk) 12:19, 23 September 2015 (UTC)
- Hi and thanks for the comment/warning. I have been on Wikipedia (in German, English and sometimes Spanish and French) under the username WernR, and I actually thought this new user might look more "official". Should I do it again with my usual username? --Ed@VID 12:26, 23 September 2015 (UTC)
- If you want your username to have the name of the Institute in it, it would need to be written in the form of "username @ organization name" as described above. Deciding to use your previous name is fine too, but if you are going to make edits on behalf of the institute it is actually better to have a reference to that in your username. Whichever name you decide on, you may want to post that on the page of the name you are not using, so it clear which one you have decided to use.
- I'll also add that if you are editing here as part of your job you will need to state that on your userpage or user talk page. Best wishes 331dot (talk) 12:36, 23 September 2015 (UTC)
You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose.
If your username does not represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}
below this notice.
You may simply create a new account, but you may prefer to change your username to one that complies with our username policy, so that your past contributions are associated with your new username. If you would prefer to change your username, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}
below this notice. Thank you.
