Your bot is messing pages up

[edit]

How did this happen? There's a) duplicated stuff on there and b) stuff that was never on the original page on there. --Rschen7754 (talk - contribs) 02:43, 23 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • I set Werdnabot to work on AN/I since Essjaybot II seems to be down. On the 15:22 run on Oct 23, it copied a large tract to the archive but did not delete the files from the original page. Thatcher131 17:36, 23 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • OK, today it worked. Yesterday it was archiving 71 sections, maybe it ran into an edit conflict. I manually archived the page so today it only had to do 12 sections and it seems to have worked fine. Thatcher131 15:47, 24 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Copied from my user talk:

“I've been told they've been fixed. Was the problem recent? Do you have a diff? — SCZenz 04:48, 23 October 2006 (UTC)

A diff would have made things a lot clearer here; you are aware that you can use the history tab to show the changes between any two versions, right? It took me a lot of digging to realize there are two problems:
  1. Wernabot archived everything as one section on 21 September, just like it did everywhere else that day. This bug is fixed.
  2. Werdnabot archived the same thing three times on 23-24 August: here, here, and here. The problem is that Werdnabot didn't actually remove the material from the original page until the third time, so it kept trying to archive the same material. This appears to be a genuine bug and should be reported to User:Werdna.
Definitely give him the diffs, though; copy them from my text above if you have trouble making them yourself. Otherwise it'll take him a long time to figure out what's going on. -- SCZenz 05:36, 24 October 2006 (UTC)”

I have to add that some of the stuff was never on the page archived either. --Rschen7754 (talk - contribs) 02:10, 26 October 2006 (UTC) [reply]

No archiving done since 24 October 2006, for anyone!

[edit]

Werdnabot seems to have given up. JRSpriggs 07:25, 28 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

the bot is offline at the moment, because of security issues, see the link to meta a couple of sections above. AzaToth 08:24, 28 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Back online yet? Just wondering because I put the code on my talk page today and there has been no archiving.--HamedogTalk|@ 14:02, 29 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The bot appears to be working right now. It archived last night. Alphachimp 18:37, 29 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps you can look at my talk page then?--HamedogTalk|@ 14:29, 30 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Questions

[edit]

Hello, I was wondering, could you explain how to create a bot to me? Do I need a special program? Also, in case I cannot create one for any number of reasons, how do I get yours to operate on my talk page? Lastly, I like your "Wikipedia secret police quote", do you mind if I add something similar to my userpage? I apologize for all the questions, I hope you don't mind. :-) | AndonicO Talk 15:28, 26 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello again. Just came by to tell you I have added something similar to the "Wikipedia Secret Police" message on your page to mine.

Possible Archiving Problem

[edit]

Could someone check the Werdnabot on my talk page? It hasn't archived yet, and by my calculations, it should have by now. Maybe I put it in wrong? -WarthogDemon 18:37, 2 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I tried to fix it. Let us wait and see. JRSpriggs 05:13, 3 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It works! ^_^ (Although it didn't prompt me with a "new messages" prompt.) Now, should I change the Archive name from 1 or 2? Or should I wait and let it fill up for a while? -WarthogDemon 18:43, 3 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I think that one usually waits until it gets near 32 kilobytes (see Wikipedia:How to archive a talk page) before one establishes a new archive file. JRSpriggs 07:13, 4 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Error made when setting up Werdnabot

[edit]

I made and error when I set up Werdnabot for my talk page. It seems that for the indexing it was set in error to index to User talk:Cholmes75/section index this should have been set to User talk:TheRanger/section index , I have corrected the problem however as a result when it ran it the index to the wrong users page. How can this be fixed to repair the damage that wass done?? TheRanger 15:56, 4 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • I belive the issue is fixed, I cut and pasted from the user it posted wrong at back to my page. As a result it all looks to be good now and does not need any thing else to fix as I also repaired the code so it index correctly next time. Thanks TheRanger 16:16, 4 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My talk page

[edit]

I have you archive my talk page but here is my problem: I also want the comments that are unsigned/without timestamp to be archived. Can you help me on this? --Shamir1 19:42, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Abuse Report for 202.182.131.21

[edit]

Hi Werdna, I wanted to let you know that I've opened up the abuse investigation for your IP address, 202.182.131.21. Information about my contact and investigation can be found here. I apologize for the long delay, and promise to give all my cases the utmost priority until they are resolved. ST47Talk 22:25, 15 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

For convenience: 202.182.131.21 (talkcontribsWHOISblock userblock log). To ST47: Are you sure that you have got the right user associated to this IP address? Are you aware that Werdna operates the Werdnabot robot which is used by many people and some projects to archive their talk pages? Recently, some vandals redirected its output to inappropriate pages. He has been working on repairing the bot. Before fixes to the security of the bot, it had to be blocked to prevent the vandalism from continuing. Also Werdna is "on vacation" and is not doing anything here at Wikipedia. If you want to talk to him you must go to his meta-page. JRSpriggs 07:12, 16 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Talkarchive

[edit]

Maybe it's only me... I recently made a second archive and noticed that as Werdnabot started to archive there, it didn't make put the "talkarchive" message in it. Can I fix that? O.o -WarthogDemon 18:07, 18 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

As far as I know, Werdnabot will create the archive file if it does not exist, but it will not put the "{{talkarchive}}" template into it. If you want that template, you can, of course, edit the archive file yourself and put it at the beginning. Be aware that the template disables section-by-section editing of the archive leaving only the "edit this page" tab at the top. However, you probably want that, to discourage people from editing the archive. JRSpriggs 09:55, 19 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Is This Right??

[edit]

Hey werdna, I'd like to ask a small favor of you if you don't mind; Could you please check that the archive code on my talk page is correct, and if not, make any changes to make it work?? Let me know if it's right, and thanks for your time.Ardo 20:09, 19 November 2006 (UTC) [reply]
