HMS Gurkha (F122)
Howdy. I've reached an impasse trying to clear up a minor but annoying quibble over a ship name, and am hoping you might be willing and able to help me out.
HMS Gurkha (F122) was sold to the Indonesian navy in 1984 and renamed (according to the current article) KRI Wilhelmus Zakarias Yohannes. However, it looks to have been named for Wilhelmus Zakaria Johannes - J rather than Y in the last name. I suspect the Y spelling is wrong, but can't find anything resembling an authoritative source by which to confirm this.
Any ideas? Cheers. - TB (talk) 12:50, 12 March 2014 (UTC)
- According to Ships of the Royal Navy, JJ Colledge, 2006, the spelling is Zakarias Yohannes. Of course the book could be wrong, but it is the standard reference work. It could be a local variant of the name. welsh (talk) 18:42, 12 March 2014 (UTC)
- Okay cheers; that's as definitive a spelling as there is to be found I suspect. Much appreciated. - TB (talk) 22:05, 12 March 2014 (UTC)
