Actually, as you mentioned, "Sango" does rhyme with... erm... "wrongo". The line about the mango was amusing though. :) And "Sango" means "coral" in Japanese, since you asked about the origin of my username. As for your question about the indented comments, here's the code...

"violin" poetry

Wow, what a long comment for such a small text box! I'm replying here because the small boxes make me claustrophobic when I have a lot of text to write. ;)

I don't know if artistic presentation of inter- and intra-stanza enjambment is something that would be taught at a college-level literary class, but...unless it would take several pages (or so), would you mind enlightening me about them? I've had no poetry training whatsoever (except for some Sound Foundations work :D ) and honestly have no clue about such things.

[Side note: BTW, my idea for meter, etc, came from John Piper's "The Prodigal's Sister" [1]. If you haven't heard John Piper read it (on the CD) or read it yourself yet, I would definitely say that you should, because (except for the disgusting version of Amazing Grace at the end of the CD) it's a tremendously moving work of's poetry that I know you would love. Did you know John Piper has cancer?]

Thank you for the advice for "my heart's never satisfied". <blushes> I hadn't really looked through a thesaurus for better words. I was supposed to be practicing XD and had sudden inspiration for the poem that I didn't want to loose. :) So, that was why I decided to leave it at that for a while. I like your idea of "fed up," "bored," "tired", etc. I’m going to spend some time thinking through the poem a little bit more, particularly that line.

To be honest, knowing that you write poetry (and very good poetry, to say the least), was one reason I put the poem on the site…for your critiquing. I’m indebted to you for thinking through the poem with me. I agree, poetry (or any writing, for that matter) can be a very “long” art, as you put it. I’m working very hard on my “life essay” (so to speak) right now, planning to post it on my blog (not the v.comm blog, but other blog that my v.comm bio links to) after I get it done. I would describe it almost as Jacob wrestling with God…I feel like I spend ages choking out each word, just to delete it all and start over again with the same ideas. So yes, searching for lee mot justee definitely describes me! :D

I'm not quite sure I get your point in the illustration of Saruman (never watched LOTR, maybe that's why)? I'm guessing that you're saying that by distancing myself from vandalism (=evil) I'm not "end[ing] up swayed (to evil)...because of [my] extensive study of it". If I'm incorrect in my guess, clarify, please?

Lol I agree. Typo repair is one of my main pastimes on wikipedia. If you want to find typos, type in some common typos in the search and see if anything comes up. I really appreciate your poem compliment, as I gather you are somewhat of a poet yourself. I just love The Bromeliad by TP, my favourite for sure. People can aquire editing prowess really quickly I've discoverd, some of us take longer, like me, but VG caught on really well. Ciao, Weien...“thy” ;) support for my Statement was much appreciated (although I felt really stupid calling it that, but for lack of a better name, proceeded under that title). I’m writing a huge paper which hopefully will explain in greater depth what I’m saying here, but God has taken me through the “fire” several different times, and I felt that Saturday was one of those times. “Fire” not being suffering (as explained about in the Basic or Advanced), but more suffering in the sense of God asking me: “Are you going to follow hard after me, or are you going to allow the little foxes to spoil the vine?” I have learned a lot through this whole ordeal, though, first thing coming to mind being that whenever I start to feel that I don’t have any friends, I need to realize that this prompting is from GOD to make me “fall on this stone” (Matthew 21:44) and make Him my dearest friend (John 15:13), who gave up His life for me. Other things, too, but I can’t think of them right off, and am pressed for time (although I sense that this will not be a short epistle :D).

I wouldn’t dare post any of my first poetry here. Some of the first ones were…very strange. :P I really liked your first poems…especially the almond one…very neat way of wrestling with God to gain a more thorough understanding the Scripture. Hmm, so learning is doing in poetry, eh? Well, then maybe I’ll let you sneak a peek at my latest poem…I’m not sure it’s in it’s final revision (nor is “the violin”), because I’m not sure I like the last stanza, or want to leave it at three stanzas. The poetry course you took sounds neat, are you going to get credit for it? (LOL, the CLEP student becomes very conscious of possible credit hours, ha ha!) Probably the English Lit CLEP does require some knowledge in poetry. I think I’ll be taking that CLEP this summer. Now I’m getting butterflies for Western Civilization…yikes!

That so cleared up enjambement. Thank you! I totally loved your poem! Especially: “Over the tombs, out to the parking/Lot. Then into the car, re-embarking“…you don’t think “the violin” sounds urgent, then? I’m so grateful for the sites you linked to (thesauri, rhyming dictionary, etc). *starts bookmarking*

(Side note: I’m thinking that Piper’s “The Innkeeper” is along the lines of “The Prodigal’s Sister” in the sense of style of poetry, although I’m not sure, since I’ve never looked at it. Let me know what you think when you read it [it=“TPS”].)

I voted on the Gothard page, although it looks like there’s been some problems getting “legal” votes…it sounds to me like maybe this got onto one of the ATI e-mail loops and people were joining Wikipedia just to vote for the AfD (although that’s just speculation)…I hope it turns out okay.

Oh dear. *groans* This is so long, even when it’s condensed. Oh well…get back to me when you can, no rush. (By the way, the poem has no title yet...I’m thinking on it.)

Along the same lines, did you see the way "To All Hymn Players" thread ended up? I thought some good points were being brought out, and then it was ended so rudely. I did think it was cool that there were three ATI-ers on the thread, not to mention previous String Workshop goers… :D

Yeah, some peopel are so sloppy about typos!! I am very fond of poetry, and have written one or two non-nonsense ones. But I find the nonsense genre the easiest to write, because you can say anything, so long as it is random and obscure enough. Yeah, I must write one about Mr. Mugabe, at least he cant nab me! Political poetry, I think I'll try one of those...I think despots fear the poets because they dont understand what is written and in their paranoid nature, assume the worst. And yes, a lot of people spend a lot of time here, like me. Some wikipedaholics sacrifice their social, work, life for wikipedia. The funniest quote I read the other day: "Real life? I passed!! Thank you so much for praying for me...actually, as I was in the middle of the test, all of a sudden, I thought, "Weien's praying for me." *sigh* Thanks so much. I passed with a score of 53/80 (scored like a SAT, in case you didn't know)...I was so relieved. After the test, we went to the library and I got online there (first time ever at a library, very interesting!) and totally forgot to tell YOU! Sorry about that. I was able to fit in lunch, asthma doctor, Wal-Mart, violin lesson, dinner, and LeMoyne College string ensemble rehearsal all before crashing with a headache tonight. Still have tomorrow to look forward to, but He gives strength for every moment, and in every one thing He does, he accomplishes a thousand. I have time on my hands. Forgive me for talking to you before my turn. You use FireFox, right? Have you seen [2]? You can download the wikipedia plugin, set it as your default. Then, F6 (and then) tab would get you to the toolbar, automattically letting you search from there. afterthought...of course, it's easier just to do F6 "w search" than the tab stuff, I guess...whatever anyway...good grief, I must get to bed! ;) --ViolinGirl^♪ 01:01, 2 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Christian Hedonism

Hi, Weien! Are you back home? YAAAY! We prayed for you yesterday at church to have a safe trip, etc. Feel free to change what you want in my sandbox...I'm not exactly sure about the Kant business...I haven't read ANYTHING of his (like, in my hands...I read |this| much online to site my sources, but that was it), and don't really know what I'm talking about in regard to him. :) All I know is that I don't agree with him. XD

I've been reading The Pleasures of God (by John Piper (theologian) recently, and it's THE BEST. I love it! Not sure if you've read Desiring God or not, but it's kind of an expansion of one of the chapters about God enjoying being God in everything he does. SOOOOO great. *shiver* Stuff like, "God is never coerced in anything he does." and "There is nothing God does that he doesn't enjoy doing to the fullest." (Not quoting exactly, don't have time to get the book down.) Anyway, it's really great. And, knowing you (to the extent I do :)), I would say that you are a hedonist...but I'll wait and let you work through that for yourself.

I KNOW! I love that quote, "I never made a sacrifice." That's the most exciting. Kind of like, even though we're doing hard things, the reward is greater than the sacrifice. *scream of hedonistic excitement* Oh...that's so exciting!

I enjoyed reading your Christian Hedonism paragraph, and agreed with all of it. ([tease] Well, maybe the part about God using the same slang as we do was a little questionable: I don’t think I’ve ever seen a shift-6 smiley in the Bible! [/tease] XD) Actually, on thinking through that this weekend, I agree with it completely (even though I never honestly disagreed). It's great knowing that God completely understands when we...uh, for example, say "LOL, Lord, thanks for having a sense of humor", etc... :) Back to the topic, though, recently I’ve been meditating on how God never is coerced into doing something that isn’t His will. He always does exactly what he pleases to do…even “bruising” His Son was His greatest delight, because it brought the most glory to Him. already mentioned, oh well, this is a copy and paste move so what can you expect?

Thanks for the link to your sister’s blog. I really enjoyed the part about feminism...something I've been thinking about lately, and I'm trying to work it out in my mind...helps to read some other girl who is really honest about her feelings.I enjoyed reading it and the illustrations she made for Psalm 143:6-8. I did, however, make the mistake of reading the comments…particularly the one about grilled-cheese sandwiches. Good grief, Charlie Brown! What possess you? And Proverbs 8: “But he that sinneth against me WONGETH his own soul: all they that hate me love death." I practically fell off the bed when I read “the pulling of my wisdom teeth made me very exhausted”. WARN me next time, at least until my ex-teeth heal, so I can be prepared! XD Just kidding, on the contrary, it really brightened my day…

Oh yeah, and then I went back to the AfD page for Bill Gothard…LOL! Very funny comment, I hadn’t seen it. *’’begins thinking up a Christ-honoring reply’’*

I’m glad you liked this poem better. I liked it a lot better than “the violin” because 1) it rhymed and 2) because I was able to use metaphors in it. I showed it to my dad, and he said he didn’t like “bloody” in the second stanza. I’m kind of sold on that word, myself, because it ‘’is’’ a metaphor, and reminds us that it’s only by the blood of Christ that we have salvation from sin. I see your point in writing the way we speak. (Of course, presents a problem if you speak with an impediment like your mouse on your userpage, but…)

And yes, everything you said makes sense…I’m planning on giving it some thought, and then see what further inspiration I’ll get. Usually, the brainwaves get active about an hour after “lights-out” at 9:30P or so…resulting in barely-readable scribbles in the morning for me to try to sort through and improve. So, we’ll see what happens in the next one…

I’m not sure how well my ten-year-old brother would serve in your honored position (of Critiquer Emeritus), but I suppose I could try…:) I IMed my dad the other night (hoping for a “nice, honest opinion” as you said), but he got confused with xanga…I think he was trying to comment and didn’t understand when they wanted him to sign in…*titter* Which reminds me…if you haven’t noticed, I gave you a little pet for your userpage. I was SOOO lost, practically guessing every single question. Don't reply, I'm formulating one, should be here in a couple of days. There is so much on my heart...at this rate you'll soon be archiving! :D I'm so sorry this is as late as it is...believe me, it wasn't intentional.

How great that you're on a quest for a violin teacher! Any success yet? I'm amazed that you were able to go six years without lessons! I would have gotten into a million bad habits. Even while under violin instruction, I somehow slipped into the "Russian" bow-hold...around the time of my first String Workshop ('04). I remember Mrs. Collins..."Does your teacher actually want you to hold your bow like that?!" XD (Along the lines of teachers, you said..."And would it be out of place to say that Petia sounds just amazing?" :) Now, where would you get that impression?!)

I'm glad your trip was nice. I spent several blissful moments imagining the beautiful scenery/weather sailing past at 80 MPH. I got my learner's permit the day of my birthday, and have been scaring mom ever since. ("Honey, do you see the CARS STOPPED UP THERE????!" or "Slow down. SLOW down. Carley, SLOW DOWN!!!" You get the picture.) So, yeah...80 MPH sounds like fun! ;)

I agree, JP's quotes have been really inspiring. He has such a radical way of stating his beliefs and joy in the Lord. I loved what Darren Hsiung said about The Pleasures of God (my latest reading of Piper's): "...when I first read this book, I wanted to throw it across the room. But earnestly searching scriptures (with the intent to prove the book wrong), I was forced to unhappily conclude that Piper was completely on the ball...[etc.]" *sigh* I'm just disappointed in his (Piper's) standards of music. How can someone have it all together (or, seemingly so) and not have good music standards? Along the same lines (of "spiritual sadness") have you seen this?

Well...your humor wouldn't have had such a painful effect, except for the fact that I was recovering from the wisdom teeth ordeal. I was literally holding my jaw, but I couldn't quit laughing. "Wongeth" is even funnier, now that I know the background on it. :D And regarding Weieniawski...100% accidental. I read your comment and then read my blog entry again. *eyes bug out* (And in regard to your comment: "by some guy with a long name... started with a V, I think": Look it up, kid! That's pretty funny...though, I don't think I would have known about him last fall either.)

Last year was the first year in eons that we didn't go to a (regional) seminar. Year before last we went to Indy and I taught my first CI. A very...er...interesting experience. Good, but interesting. What a hectic travel schedule for you last year! Indy Regional, Virginia, SW...whew!

"I respect your right to private them ^^. Though, I don't see why you would feel that you needed to..." I'm a hopeless perfectionist. That's why. :) Anyway, I will attempt to refuse the inclination to private everything, and reduce it to protecting it. Thanks for mentioning the thing about a poem giving context for poem...I'll keep that in mind. I've been feeling very inspired lately, so we'll see if it produces anything...:)

I am really grateful for your strong support throughout my internet sphere lately. Hurriedly checking for comments around my "homes" online, I would discover a comment that would encourage me for the rest of the day. (An example of this would be a comment linking to a scripture I can't believe I never noticed before. Excellent.) If you read Victoria's latest post (or, the first comment to it), you'll understand what I'm saying when I mention that you, along with some other people have been a great reminding me that GOD and God alone is Who I need...He is the Rock I can stand on. BTW, what exactly did Victoria do with Daily Success? I love her spoof version..."Breaking through for Dairy Success". That is SO funny!

And, regarding your latest v.com comment...Yes, it must have been Perlman Larry Shapiro was talking about...Petia mentioned that, as well. My personal favorite quote from LS was from the musician who was asked if s/he was married (can't remember who it was): "Unfortunately, no, thank God!" LOL.

Wow, what an incredible blessing to hear from you today! Thank you! This is not an official reply (I'll combine it with my next message), but I wanted to just mention a few things. First, thanks for giving me the links...I can't wait to check them out! :) LOL, without the belt! XD An equivalent of that for me would be the failed CLEP...first one of five I've failed, so yeah...a wonderfully humbling experience. Second, regarding Candace. Wow, that's very interesting that her brother was on your SF team...it's incredible what fire God brings others through. Thanks for your note you left me ages ago (about "kao maaku")...that was exactly what I was looking for. (Did you know you were the first to properly introduce me to the shift-six smiley?
