Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. There is a lot to learn, so here are some links to pages that will help you to navigate through the site, get to know the most important policies and guidelines, and develop your editing skills: | ||||||||||||||

When you need to ask a question or seek assistance, you can visit pages such as the Help Desk, Editor Assistance or the New Contributors' Help page. They all fulfill different rôles depending on what kind of help you need. If you would like direct access to an experienced editor, you can join the adopt-a-user project or just approach someone directly via their discussion page. Always sign whenever you leave a comment by using four tildes (~~~~) or . Whenever you edit a page, even if the edit is minor, you should include a descriptive edit summary. I hope that you find Wikipedia to be a rewarding experience. – Adrian M. H. 14:10, 5 October 2007 (UTC) |
10/1/07 - I removed a substantial amount of inflammatory, apparently politically motivated content from the Edgewood, New Mexico page. This appears to be primarily election-year argument, and is not appropriate for Wikipedia. As the original author of much of the original content of this entry, I would like to ask that people find other venues for airing their differences with the Town government. The area is served by two newspapers, both of which appear willing to print a wide variety of opinions. For Wikipedia, let's stick to facts and hope that we can find a respectful and mutually beneficial means of resolving differences among the people of the Edgewood area.
- You have more solid grounds for deleting that material in that is does not have any references to reliable sources. But if that other editor provides well-referenced material then you will have little basis for removing it. Your remark that you are the "original author" carries no weight in the Wikipedia community. (See WP:OWN.)
- By the way, a better place for your admonition above is in Talk:Edgewood, New Mexico. When there is a dispute about the content of an article, its Talk page is the right place for each editor to provide an explanation and to try to persuade other editors. Sbowers3 22:32, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
Thank you. I'm relatively new at this, and am still learning the protocols. I appreciate the help! Weckerleje 13:28, 4 October 2007 (UTC)
- I've been here six months and I am still learning. Sbowers3 14:01, 4 October 2007 (UTC)
Just a note to inform you that I have provided further advice at EAR, just in case you miss it. And since you slipped through the net of the Welcoming Committee, I have added a useful set of links at the top here. Adrian M. H. 14:10, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
Yo!
- Greetings. I left you a long message on at Talk:Edgewood, New Mexico. Meanwhile, please remember to "sign" all your messages on Talk pages (but not Articles edits!) with the four tildes, with which the "signature" is automatically generated once you save the edit. Otherwise, it's hard to follow conversations. Take care, HG | Talk 03:06, 10 October 2007 (UTC)
- Hi. Be sure to sign your comments. Also, better to not interject within another person's text on Talk pages, see WP:TALK, esp during disagreements. I may try to move your comments, ok? Also, it's fine to use Talk to iron stuff out, meeting in person is sometimes done but by no means necessary or even officially encouraged (I believe). Take care, HG | Talk 03:57, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

External links for New Mexico articles
[edit]Please don't worry that I'm following you around; I watch all of the articles to which you added these links, so it popped up on my watchlist. The links that you posted, as "virtual tours", really aren't the kind of links that are supposed to be here, and the inline links (for example, on Torrance County) either don't belong or should be placed as references for those statements: whether or not you intend it, the manner in which they are placed is improper. Again, please don't think that I bear ill will toward you; were it so, I would have placed multiple warnings on your page instead of explaining the problems on the article talk page and on here. I have not, by the way, violated WP:3RR, which reads "Contributors must not perform more than three reverts...". Nyttend (talk) 00:27, 16 September 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for your thoughtful reply - certainly much better than the one I got from the "editor" assistance request. Your choice of words suggests that there is, in fact, a proper way to post the links, and I'd appreciate your guidance in that respect. The virtual tours really do provide a visual idea of what the communities are like, and a link or reference to EVEDA would be useful. I did all the photography for the virtual tours, and I'm not sure how I can present them without being directly involved. It seems counter-intuitive that links to virtual tours would be prohibited. As for the EVEDA link on Torrance County, are you suggesting that I include it in the References section rather than as a "community organization?"

File permission problem with File:Koshari the black bear.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Koshari the black bear.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.
If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{permission pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. Here is a list of your uploads. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page.
