No opinions are expressed in the edits. I'm hoping factual input is useful -- entry seemed out of date. Am I supposed to supply the citations and clarifications noted as needed? Do I edit the page with those in place? Do citations have to be from a third party website?

I don't think I have either of these problems:

Account used by more than one person? Usernames that specificially link them to one company or corporation?

Hello, Wcheerma, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I notice that one of the first articles you edited appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been reverted for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of deletion, you might like to draft your article before submission, then ask me or any other editor to proofread it. To start creating a draft article, just click your user name at the top of the screen when you are logged in, and edit that page as you would any other. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

The one firm rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. It is also worth noting that Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which specifically link them to one company or corporation. If your username does have such a name, it would be advisable for you to request a change of username.

If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! You can also just type {{helpme}} on your user page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Here are a few other good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you have any questions, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! – Bouchecl (talk) 23:17, 22 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Southern Company

[edit]

Hi, Sorry I couldn't answer earlier, I was busy elsewhere. Regarding Southern Company, we both agree the article is in dire straits and needs a significant overhaul, ASAP. Like I said, I'm not there to do hatchet job on your company, and if I can, I'd like to improve the article. I already spent some time translating an earlier version of Southern Company in French.

So, here's a few ideas on how you could help me improve the article, without violating WP:COI and WP:NPOV guidelines:

  1. You can generally upload your own pictures. If the pictures are part of the company's official photos, make sure they're uploaded through the commons:Commons:OTRS system (mainly to avoid any issues regarding copyrights).
  2. Pointers to relevant publications (especially, but not exclusively, from third-party sources) giving editors precise information on the company's history, services, generation facilities, etc. I've noticed you've added relevant links. Company's factual information, such as the annual report, the 10-K and this page is useful (although the pdf file is much more precise and interesting). As a reader, I would be interested to know more about the development of SoCo's development of its generation fleet, historical information on your service area, the expansion of the transmission grid, your largest generating plants, etc. These informations can be posted on the article's talk pages.

Feel free to send me a message via my talk page if you need further assistance. Have a pleasant day. Bouchecl (talk) 19:56, 27 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

____________ I checked and the information about energy efficiency is from the company in these areas: · Residential – Energy audits, Direct load Control, Energy Select, New Homes program · Commercial - RTP, Standby, Commercial Building Program, Energy Audits, Energy Services, TOU · Industrial – DEP, RTP, Interruptible, Energy Services The mW savings from these programs and others have been accumulated annually since program inception. At the end of 2009, they added up to a total of 3,424 mW.

You asked from historical information, there is a summary here http://www.southerncompany.com/aboutus/history.aspx. The overview discusses the evolution of the service territory.

The generating plants are described here: http://www.southerncompany.com/generation/plants.aspx Largest plants can be found in EIA site from US Government http://www.eia.doe.gov/neic/rankings/plantsbycapacity.htm

Transmission/generation performance is measured in SAIDI and SAIFI figures, shown and described here: http://www.southerncompany.com/corporateresponsibility/overview/performance.aspx Smart meters are a big part of the transmission grid investment, they are digital -- no more spinning arrows -- and have communications built in for usage reporting and interuption data.
