[edit]Questions
[edit]- Hi Washburn (is that a firefly reference?), those number aren't ratings they just show how much text was added (green) or removed (red). You removed 1 byte of data in your second edit, so that's why it showed a -1. Also see above, the XLinkBot is concerned about that source, since it's a blog (is it? I didn't check), it might not meet the inclusion guidelines for reliable sources. –xenocidic (talk) 18:39, 7 July 2008 (UTC)
- Ahh that makes sense. Yep, it's an Ender's Game reference =). Alright, just let me know if you need anything further. –xenocidic (talk) 19:18, 7 July 2008 (UTC)
- Twinke is a great program to start with for vandal fighting. After that you could move on to more advanced tools but you need a good deal of standard vandal fighting before you can get approval for the more advanced stuff. The status thing is done by placing {{Statustop}} on your userpage and then updating Special:Mypage/Status (a script program, WP:QUI can help you with this). You can create your own sandbox and other user subpages just by going to Special:Mypage/sandbox. Let me know if any of this needs further explaining. –xenocidic (talk) 19:58, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
Adoption
[edit]Since I'm already your "de facto" adopter, I figured we might as well make it official. Yes? –xenocidic (talk) 15:52, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
- Yea, it's not a problem, a lot of them are fairly inactive or self-sufficient. To keep things together, from now on when you ask me a question, I'll reply at my talk page and then just leave you a quick note here (basically update my signature). –xenocidic (talk) 15:56, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
- Replied at my talk. –xenocidic (talk) 19:52, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
Question
[edit]I'd like to sometimes link to your contributions whilst you were an IP and ask people if they would have unblocked you and given you a second chance (while they are up at WP:Requests for adminship)... Is that ok with you? –xenocidic (talk) 20:23, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
- I am fine with you referencing my contribs as an IP as long as I can reserve my right of no "double jeopardy"! Lol. I would be interested in seeing the discussion they're involved in, a link would be much appreciated. Washburnmav (talk) 20:38, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
- Of course =) Blocks are never applied punitively. I'll send you a link. –xenocidic (talk) 21:15, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
- I decided not to link directly to your contribs because then it would be too easy for them to see how I responded (and also, to protect the
guiltyreformed =). Here's the two RFAs I asked the question on: Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Morhange, Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Happyme22. (P.S. for this subject, you can reply here - again, so it's not so easy for them to see what I did) –xenocidic (talk) 23:42, 11 July 2008 (UTC)- Haha those are very amusing to see. I forgot how lewd I was, I apologize for that. Tough question though! You sound like they're interviewing for a job or something. Are you looking for them to answer with the template you gave me? I wouldn't be doing what I'm doing if Happyme22 was deciding my fate. Very interesting. Washburnmav (talk) 01:18, 13 July 2008 (UTC)
- Well, yes, that would be a good way to answer it but I didn't even know about that until I was an admin for a few weeks. So really I just want to see what their attitudes towards attempting to reform people are. Oh, and don't worry about the vulgarity - water off a duck's back, really. Just glad you "saw the light", as it were. This user gave a pretty good answer, but their RFA seems doomed to failure for other reasons. –xenocidic (talk) 01:29, 13 July 2008 (UTC)
- oh, and RFA is a job interview of sorts... You'll see people get raked over the coals for nearly everything. I had people oppose because of my username and/or the fact that I failed to see it's potential to be divisive. (see WP:Requests for adminship/Xenocidic or User talk:Xenocidic/RFA). –xenocidic (talk) 01:35, 13 July 2008 (UTC)

- Just FYI, I'll probably be asking the vandal-reform question on nearly every RFA, so to prevent any appearance of impropriety, I won't be updating you anymore, but you can keep an eye on WP:RFA. (You should be watching them anyways if you one day want to become an admin). –xenocidic (talk) 20:00, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
Welcome!
[edit]Welcome to the WikiProject Guitarists. Take some time to browse around our different project pages. And if you have any questions about the project or suggestions on how we can improve it, feel free to drop me a line. Cheers and take care! Anger22 (Talk 2 22) 22:22, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
- Manufacturers websites always leave me feeling like I could have done better. It's the whole Wikipedia "no self-refs" guideline. If you catch my meaning. I have boxes and boxes of old Guitar Player Magazines, Frets Magazines etc. I would browse through these trying to find a decent cite rather than going to a manufacturer's website. Just because I don't want to feel like I'm shelling for some company (See WP:NOT) At the same time the websites are really quick to go to. I just try not to use them as a crutch. Along with pro publications like Guitar Player, any book by Tony Bacon (or the few other guitar oriented authors) are excellent sources for citations. We've built the entire List of Telecaster/Stratocaster/Gibson players around these authors particularly Bacon because his books are well researched. I say avoid the websites and at the same time both Gibson and Fender have excellent pseudo online magazines that are not just about themselves but about lots of different artists too (and not just the one who endorse their products) so linking to these isn't such a bad thing. Was there an article in particular or a website that you were concerned with? Anger22 (Talk 2 22) 22:35, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
Review of rollbacks
[edit]I've been looking over your "identified as vandalism" rollbacks and overall I'm very impressed. Keep it up like that for another week or so and we can probably enable native rollback on your account. One thing I should just let you know is that IPs are allowed to blank their talk pages, so if they do, just let them (don't revert them). We consider it as proof that they've read any warnings that have been left there. See WP:BLANKING for more on that. Nice job! (Oh and on an unrelated note, I wouldn't bother with putting that "sandbox" link at the bottom. it'll just always get lost in the middle when people click "new section" =) –xenocidic (talk) 20:18, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
John Dundee
[edit]I am the late John Dundee's daughter. His family do not like this article, it is becoming too americanised (anaesthesiologist instead of anaesthetist - he was British and anaesthetist is the correct term in the UK). They have requested withdrawal of the article by Wikipedia and would ask you to respect their wishes until this has taken place.
Waltzingmatilda57 (talk) 19:22, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
I realize this is a sensitive issue for you, however I am following Wikipedia guidelines. The material you removed was legitimate and there is not a consensus to remove it. Please speak to a Wikipedia admin to resolve your issue. Until that point leave John Dundee intact, or I am obliged to keep reverting your edits and warning you as such. Washburnmav (talk) 19:43, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
- You obviously have too much time on your hands. I am his daughter, I have his certificates etc. so I think I am better qualified to amend articles than you are. You can 'warn' me all you like but it won't change the fact that I have all the facts - you don't.
Waltzingmatilda57 (talk) 22:25, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
- I don't appreciate your personal attacks. You've made it perfectly clear that you are his daughter, have his certificates, etc. However that does not exempt you or this article from the rules and guidelines of this encyclopedia. I don't pretend to have the facts on the article. I only wish to keep the integrity of this encyclopedia intact, which is done by following our guidelines. The warning system is not a matter of satisfaction, it is a step-by-step process to warn a user, and hopefully stop them from vandalizing Wikipedia or otherwise harming it. If necessary, bans will be issued, as you experienced. These bands will get longer over time. I urge you to consider your actions more carefully in the future. Washburnmav (talk) 00:31, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
- I tried my best to explain what we do here, but failed =(. By the way wash, keep in mind there's a different between a "block" and a "ban". (See the Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Template/Cheatsheet). Just FYI. –xeno (talk) 00:45, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
Rollback granted
[edit]After reviewing your request for rollback, I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:
- Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
- Rollback can be used to revert vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
- Rollback may be removed at any time.
If you no longer want rollback, then contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some information on how to use rollback, you can view this page. I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, just leave me a message if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Happy editing! –xeno (talk) 18:45, 22 July 2008 (UTC)
- If you want that {{rollbacker}} icon to not be obscured by your status indicator just add |offset=50 to the statustop template. –xeno (talk) 16:37, 5 August 2008 (UTC)
RE: Mass Effect
[edit]Actually, I never played Mass Effect; I just loved the KOTORs so much that I had to add my two cents in when you guys were talking about it. Wikipedia's had a KOTOR 3 page in a couple incarnations, mostly unsourced junk, but there have been lots of rumors about it on other gaming forums; even that it might be an MMORPG. That would be nuts. GlassCobra 19:39, 22 July 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for the info. A KOTOR MMORPG would be death to productivity for me. *Sigh* My addiction grows... Washburnmav (talk) 20:00, 22 July 2008 (UTC)
- Oh, quite. Add that on top of Starcraft II and Diablo III coming out soon...I'll just never get anything done ever again. GlassCobra 20:03, 22 July 2008 (UTC)
Montreal Canadiens Page
[edit]Hi,
I recently tried to edit the Montreal Canadiens page in the Pro Hockey Hall of Fame section where you state "the Canadiens boast the most enshrined Hall-of-Famers with forty-two." Given the fact that the Toronto Maple Leafs have 55 players inducted to the Hall of Fame, that is a very inaccurate statement. Please correct it.
66.46.154.109 (talk) 14:41, 23 July 2008 (UTC)Jeff
- I edited the page per your wishes. I'm taking your word that this is an accurate statement, however you should find a reliable source to back it up and add it as a reference. Washburnmav (talk) 14:50, 23 July 2008 (UTC)
Dizzee Rascal
[edit]My edits of the "Dizzee Rascal" page were true and documented. I'm not sure what you found issue with, but please reconsider. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.182.164.5 (talk) 14:56, 23 July 2008 (UTC)
- Your edit was not appropriate for the article. It was fundamentally too insignificant to be included, as well as being improperly sourced and inappropriately written. Please review wikipedia guidelines on editing and sources before editing further. Washburnmav (talk) 15:03, 23 July 2008 (UTC)
help! Re vandalism on Lennar site
[edit]I'm being ganged up on by two people claiming to be admin. who are deleting sourced text from the Lennar Corporation site. I'm too afraid to challenge them any further. I put notices on the discussion site and their talk pages and they gave me trouble about both, and removed what I said on the discussion page, even though I think they are not supposed to do that. Can you help? I don't know the process and don't want to screw up. I know you confronted Kneakie1, but now we have Jehochman and Ckatz to contend with. I also asked for help from Landon1980 and Tj9991. Landon1980 had encouraged me to call it vandalism--see my talk page, but this seems to be backfiring...--David Tornheim (talk) 21:44, 24 July 2008 (UTC)
- Those users are both admins. In the future you can verify whether users are admins or not by going here. I reviewed both Jehochman and Ckatz's edits and neither seem to be vandalism. They removed material they deemed to be incorrectly sourced. They used edit summaries, and explained themselves in the page discussion. This does not constitute vandalism. If you disagree with their edits, continue discussing your opinions in the article talk. If problems persist, refer to WP:DISPUTE for dispute resolution ideas and protocol. Be careful not to violate the 3-revert rule. You may also want to review my reverts to see what true vandalism is. Washburnmav (talk) 07:11, 25 July 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for the tip. Now the question is, the reason they give for deleting is about as superficial as putting no reason at all. You can almost always make an argument that a position is not "neutral" not a "majority view", "too biased" "too one-sided" or that the authority is not of sufficient worth, etc. Basically, almost anything someone doesn't like can be deleted, or so it seems to me. Are there no protections? Are there any standards? I made an argument about this issue in responding at...User talk:Jehochman
- When I logged in, it said I had a new message on your talk page:
- "Hello, David Tornheim. You have new messages at washburnmav's talk page.
- You can remove this notice at any time by removing the "Talkback" or "Tb" template."
- However, I don't see anything except the above from a while ago. Typo from someone else? I don't really understand how the e-mail-type thing works exactly. I know it's based on the "tb" template.--David Tornheim (talk) 01:48, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
- That talkback template was left 4 days ago. It was regarding the last response I made to your comments above. You must have read my response before you got the tb template and been confused. No porblem. The "e-mail" thing is very simple, you're just editing people's talk pages to leave them messages. If someone edits your talk page you will see the default "you have new messages" template. The tb template is merely a courtesy. When I respond to your comments on my own talk page, I inform you of my response with a tb template on your talk page. It is certainly not mandatory, and not everyone uses it. Washburnmav (talk) 14:27, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
- When I logged in, it said I had a new message on your talk page:
- I thought it might be it. It seems like sometimes it warns me and sometimes it doesn't. I'll delete the tb template you left & see if it still does that.--David Tornheim (talk) 17:41, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
whats up?!?!?!?!?!?! i figuere this is a post page for wiki so just comming by to say keep up with good work wiki You guys are awesome helps alot with school and stuff tyvm =]
Use of Huggle - be more careful
[edit]You managed to revert someone undoing what was essentially blanking United States Constitution and then warned them for vandalism. More speed, less haste, please Fritzpoll (talk) 14:27, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
- I apologize sincerely. I promise to me more careful with my edits in the future. It is tempting to be hasty with Huggle but I will be sure to check my edits more carefully from now on. Thanks for the heads up. Washburnmav (talk) 14:33, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
- No problem - these things happen, even when trying to do it manually! Fritzpoll (talk) 14:41, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
My apologies too
[edit]I was too hasty with huggle too. I apologise for giving you an unnecessary warning.
Thanks, TheSuave (talk) 15:55, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
The Randi Rhodes Show
[edit]I recently added to The Randi Rhodes Show page that the show can currently be heard on XM radio 167 America Left. You responded to this as a attempted vandalism which is incorrect since I'm a avid lister to the show and wanted to express to the Wikipedia readers where they can find this interesting and entertaining show. Please either revert your edit to my edit or explain to me why my edit was listed as vandalism. Thanks 24.88.255.25 (talk)
- I was unaware that the station was named "American Left" and assumed that you were adding vandalism suggesting they were on the "american left", i.e. liberals. It was a misconception. Your edit has been reinstated, and the warning on your page removed. Same with the Bill Press edits. Happy editing. Washburnmav (talk) 16:21, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
User 65.34.237.38
[edit]Use 65.34.237.38 blanked part of your talk page. I undid it and put a warning on their talk page. Chexmix53 (talk) 21:59, 30 July 2008 (UTC)

Dildozer
[edit]Can there be a disambiguation page between Dildozer the album and Dildozer the band?
- Dildozer does not seem to be notable enough for this encyclopedia. Please find a reference to support their notability as a band. Remember to sign your posts with four tildes (~~~~). Thanks. Washburnmav (talk) 05:50, 31 July 2008 (UTC)). Thanks. Washburnmav (talk) 05:47, 31 July 2008 (UTC)
