Welcome back
[edit]Hi there! From your contributions, it looks like you're back at Wikipedia after a long break, so I thought I'd say welcome back. Thanks for your contributions on Papua New Guinea related topics - it's always good to have contributors who have knowledge and interest in non-Western countries, to help counter our systemic bias. --OpenToppedBus - Talk to the driver 11:16, 10 May 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for welcome - most unexpected! Good to see such a positive spirit among contributors. I've contributed a little in the past, but hope to be able to do more now. - Wantok 00:34, 11 May 2006 (UTC)
Fair use
[edit]An image can only be used under the terms of fair use if it meets several criteria, see WP:FUC, in particular the image did not add significantly to the article - it was basically there for decoration. The image in question was a copyright problem anyway given lack of the required information on the image page.--Peta 06:34, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
Melanesia
[edit]I note you tried to raise some points with Dougg on the Melanesia discussion page without success.
Just above your entry Dougg had stated "Melanesian Austronesians, usually (I think) to contrast them with the Polynesian and Micronesian (and perhaps other) Austronesians" - - which certain indicates he believes Austronesians to be a super-set of Melanesians, Polynesians, and Micronesians. Yet inside the article he wrote as if Papuans were something different again and that Austronesians were a sub-set of Papuans who arrived four thousand years ago. Where he gets this from he will not say. I suspect his theories are all based on so called linguistic groups - a system whereby if you trade with somebody and start sharing words you are suddenly deemed to be related. Such theories would also fit US Indonesia business needs to claim Malay people have been intermixing with Papuans for thousands of years and that Jakarta's administration is just their way of helping their own people.
The Polynesian explanation I have heard claims the first Chinese people travelled to Taiwan around four thousand years ago and that during the pass two thousand years people have travel from Taiwan to New Zealand and out to Hawaii etc.
But Melanesian ancestors like indigenous Australian ancestors had settled our regions tens of thousands of years before hand.
I thought the generic marker which had been in some earlier versions of the Melanesia article was a useful means to settle once and for all that Melanesians were not just dark skinned Polynesian nor Malaysian, but were a separate group of people who had got here on their own and managed their own lives up until modern times.58.107.10.239 13:18, 22 June 2006 (UTC)

Premier/Champion
[edit]I like the new table on the A-League page, but I switched "premier" and "champion". Adelaide were Premiers [1] while Sydney were Champions [2]. -[dM] 05:23, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

Papua New Guinea
[edit]Hello. I am glad I found native of PNG. I just wanted to say that I am currently creating some geo-stubs about Papua New Guinea. Maybe you can sometimes check and contribute with your knowledge. For my recent creations see Cat:Geography of Papua New Guinea and subsequent categories. Articles created recently include Gazelle Peninsula, Duke of York Islands or famous Goroka Show. Have a nice day. - Darwinek 10:26, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
Serie A
[edit]Hi Wantok. Just wondering if you could lend me a hand. I'm trying to do the complete Serie A results table for 2005/2006 at User:Niall123/b. I'm adding the odd week now and then, cause to be honest, its the most sickening thing I've ever done on wikipedia. Just wondering if you want to add another week now and then. I'm saving the grid after each week is added, naming the week etc so I know where I am. I'm working off the results at http://www.channel4.com/sport/football_italia/aweek3.html
Just to say though, if you do add a week, please make sure to leave 5 spaces between each ||, to leave it like | 1-1 | etc. Also please write in the comment box what week the grid is up to.
Thanks

Wikipedia:Italian Football
[edit]Hi ya. I see you add to Italian Football articles from time to time. Just wondering if you want to check out Wikipedia:Italian Football. We are just hoping to organise our efforts towards improving articles better. If you want to sign up just put your name down under participants on the project. Expansion of WP:A-League
[edit]Hi Wantok,
Just thought I'd let you know there is currently a proposal to expand WikiProject A-League to include all areas of football/soccer in Australia, including the NSL, A-League, Socceroos, state leagues and more. A more formal proposal page can be found here. Please indicate whether you support the idea or not at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject A-League, and also add your 2c about what the new project should be called. Cheers! – AlbinoMonkey (Talk) 04:17, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
